I delight in the fact that Pastor Gary knows there are others like me who are fascinated by God's incorporation of Melchizedek into the early part of His plan and giving the writer of Hebrews the genius of offsetting the Hebrews ' mental block regarding Jesus the High Priest not being from the tribe of Levi.I see a scarlet thread there linking the Old to the New Testament.

Did anyone consider Jesus the high priest before the book of Hebrews was written? Did his family consider him the high priest?
@hirte777 Жыл бұрын
Hey David, I like listening to your sermons, many good insights. It would be easier for me to listen to this sermon if you pronounced the name "Melchizedek" properly. The second vowel is an "i" not an "e". Thanks!

Hebrews 7:25 uses the greek word ENTUNCHANO, literally to 'plead' as in a pettition made to a king' ( See vines greek dict) as a consequence of his sacrifice Christ 'interceeds' on our behalf as Paul says. How then can there be a 'trinity' if this 'High priest' Jesus ( who was appointed as such by the Father, Heb 5;5) and be 'God' at the same time? It doesnt make sense
@DavidGuzikEnduringWord Жыл бұрын
Hi Peter, blessings in Jesus. The word for intercession means many things besides "plead". According to Strong's concordance, it also means the following: 1. to light upon a person or a thing, fall in with, hit upon, a person or a thing. 2. to go to or meet a person, especially for the purpose of conversation, consultation, or supplication. 3. to chance upon, i.e. (by implication) confer with; by extension to entreat (in favor or against):-deal with, make intercession. Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words says the following about the word "intercession": Intercessions: primarily "to fall in with, meet with in order to converse;" then, "to make petition," especially "to make intercession, plead with a person," either for or against others; (a) against, Act 25:24, "made suit to (me)," RV [AV, "have dealt with (me)"], i.e., against Paul; in Rom 11:2, of Elijah in "pleading" with God, RV (AV, "maketh intercession to"), against Israel; (b) for, in Rom 8:27, of the intercessory work of the Holy Spirit for the saints; Rom 8:34, of the similar intercessory work of Christ; so Hbr 7:25. See DEAL WITH, PLEAD, SUIT. To be sure, there is great mystery regarding the Triune God, but Hebrews 7:25 says what it says, and the context would indicate that Jesus speaks to the Father on behalf of the Christian. Instead of re-writing what has already been written sin the subject, here is a quote from the EW commentary. I hope this helps. Blessings in Jesus! He ever lives to make intercession for them: It strengthens us to know that Jesus prays for us, and that He ever lives to pray for us. This is tremendous encouragement to anyone who feels like giving up. i. Romans 8:33-34 shows that the Apostle Paul consider this intercessory work of Jesus on our behalf important. There, he pictured Jesus defending us against every charge or condemnation through His intercession. ii. “Our blessed Lord is interceding for us, but He is in no sense appeasing God. All that God’s holy Being and righteous government could demand was once for all, completely and forever, satisfied at the Cross.” (Newell) iii. Jesus’ intercession on our behalf is not a matter of placating an angry Father who wants to destroy us. It is not a matter of continually chanting prayers on behalf of His people. It means that He continually represents us before the Father so that we can draw near through Him, and that He defends us against Satan’s accusations and attacks. iv. Luke 22:31-32 gives an example of Jesus’ intercession for His people: Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren. Jesus prays to strengthen us in trials and seasons of attack, and against Satan’s accusations.

@@DavidGuzikEnduringWord Well tahnks for going to all that trouble! My problem with the 'triune God' is manifold! However just the matter of Jesus role as High priest, can you explain to me how Jesus can be God's appointed high priest in heavan that is our 'mediator', and at the same time God himself? Is God 'pleading' with himself? is he 'interceeding' with himself? How can Psm 110;1 where God addresses His son, ( just made by him as a High priest) "Sit at my right hand"... Doesnt this sound like a command to an inferior? ( a place where lesser dignitaries sat?. So the overwhealming implictation to me is that of an Almighty Father above and higher than all including the son! ( bye the way have you studied in detail HOW the 'trinity' came to be universally accepted by the 'church' I have, and it is a very disturbing account!
@DavidGuzikEnduringWord Жыл бұрын
@@kiwihans100 Within the Trinity there is equality and yet there is hierarchy. God the Son under the submission of God the Father. The triune God head is three persons in one, so Jesus, as mediator, was not interceding to himself, but to the Father. Just as there is equality between husband and wife, yet there is a hierarchy. The same is true within the Trinity. Hope this helps.
@kiwihans100 Жыл бұрын
@@DavidGuzikEnduringWord Seems a contradiction here! So if there is a 'hierarchy' within the 'trinity', The Nicean creed; claims that The 'Son of God is consubstantial with the father'. Thus equel to him and thus worthy of the SAME worship & glory. Yet according to you my friend The Father doesnt deserve more Honour, praise & glory than the son? ( Yet the 'song of the lamb' in Rev 15 relates how he extoles the Father as the 'soveriegn over all'. As for a 'husband and wife' relationship. True they ared of 'but one flesh' equal in God's sight, yet the husband is head. What about 1 Cor 11:3. "The head of the man is the woman, the head of man is the christ, the head of Christ is God". Now Paul doesnt stop at the husband and wife relationship he also mentions the head of 'man is the Christ'. So are mankind and Christ equal in God's eyes? Of course NOT. And so with Christ's head' being th Father. This also cannot be understood to still allow for equality can it? May I conclude with the illustration; If you had no knowledge of any church or 'Christian religion' and were marooned on a desert island. You just had a bible. You would obviously read about the fact that 'The Father is greater than I am' e.t.c and the 'submission' of the son to the Father. Would you be aware of anything resembling a 'trinity'. Since the word and concept (ie; there are three persons in one God) is not found anywhere in you bible.? Only afterwards when rescued, would the idea of a trinity be introduced to you by attending a church service. Doesnt this show that the 'trinity' far from being a basic doctrine of true bible Christianity. Is a doctrine introduced CENTURIES after Christ? ( Acts 20:30 & 1 Tim 4:1 are relavent surely)
@kiwihans100 Жыл бұрын
@@DavidGuzikEnduringWord Jesus said "The hour is coming when the true worshipers will worship the Father with spirit and truth." he also taught to pray to the Father and to say "Hallowed by THY name". There ius no mention anywhere in the NT that we should worship a 'trinity' of Father, Son & Holy ghost' Only that we should Worship God the Farther THOUGH the son. ( Also what is your evidence the HS is a 'person', please.

I loved everything until you think that milk is a deck is a person milk is a deck is a title it means righteous ruler so the person who was a high priest in the order of Melchizedek means they were of not the lineage of Levi or Aaron that's why they were in the order of Melchizedek it's not a person it's a title

Paul elaborates on Jesus as 'our great High preist! Since in Israel these were men chosen & appointed by God to act as INTERMEDIARIES between the people and God, Jesus then as our 'High priest' CANNOT be God himself! Especially since he EARNED this title by being OBEDIENT & being fully tested by the Father for suitability for this role! ( see Heb 4:15. 5:7,8). Paul even stated that "No man taketh this honour UNTO HIMSELF but that is called of God as was Aaron. So ALSO CHRIST GLORIFIED NOT HIMSELF TO BE MADE AN HIGH PRIEST, but he that said unto him 'Thou art my Son, today I have begotten thee'. ( Hebrews 5:4,5)

@@jenniferkneebone7895 I know this is what you have been taught! But its not what the bible teaches! Look, have you ever said "God the Father, God the Son & God the Holy Spirit" in church? Well how is it that "God the Father" is there 30 times in the NT! Please tell me how many times it actually says "God the Son" or "God th Holy Spirit" and I will believe it! or what you just stated "Jesus is God". @@jenniferkneebone7895 I am a bit confused! I dont belong to any 'church' but just liek reading the bible. I started to read the gospels and there they tell me that Jesus is called the son of God. He keeps praying to his Father, telling his disciples to "worship the Father". he dies and is even raised from th dead by the Father who sits him at his right hand. So why are so many people calling him 'God'? Iam confused!
@kiwihans1002 ай бұрын
@@jenniferkneebone7895 Its true to say most 'christians' have been taught that! However it has been said that "The bigger the lie, the more the people will believe it". Did you know that when it was made 'official' the Roman Emperor made an edict that enforced this belief on the pain of death for not agreeing?. How would Jesus have felt about that?

I was with you, until you went there with animal sacrifices, with no anchor into the modern day moment reality, in sane, humane treatment of animals. Sigh. If teachers must account for all their words and lessons, WHY, do Ministers and Evangelists have no accountability to their words? Are we not to believe, that your words are inspired by your relationship with our Creator. Hmmmm. I love this passage in the New Testament, but he seems to skip over the part where Jesus, the Nazarene, had to deal with his own human nature, when he asked to have his mission taken from him, before the horrors of his torture and death had begun. To know what was coming and to choose it, for us, for humans, to know that there IS a way to step out of our Human Condition and rise above it. Above the Matrix type programming, that society pushes on all God's Children, which of course, are All God's Children. Amen and Blessings, To All Who Love Their Neighbors. :)

The idea of blood needing to be shed is repulsive to our humanity, but the Bible is clear on that. God is a more clear view of the awfulness of sin; therefore, He has a clear view on what is needed to atone for it.

In Israel the high priest was appointed BY God! So our 'high priest' Christ cannot BE God himself since he is our "mediator BETWEEN God & man" ( 1 Tim 2:5) "God is on oe side, and all the people on the other side, and Christ Jesus is, himself man, is BETWEEN them to bring them together, by giving his life for all mankind" ) ('The living bible'). No one can 'appoint God' to serve a fuction can they? NO!
