Yes i thought the same thing lol. Like an arrow or a circle. Would just require some video editing software is all. Man id be scared of getting stung though! How on earth are you not afraid?! 😨 lol

Hi Dave! I'm so glad I stopped in to watch this video. I get some push-back when I demonstrate the direct release of queens, particularly with package installs. Although I leave her in the cage until I see them actively feeding her, once I'm convinced, out she goes. You're right, it's a perfect learning opportunity. I'd like to share that her pheromone is mostly spread through direct contact of the workers. You'll see them licking her as they take her pheromone onboard and then spread that to other bees also through direct contact until they all get her pheromone. By taking her scent IN, they can then use others to spread the sent. It's why super large colonies often have too many bees to get that message out effectively. Anyway... I keep sending you package bee customers even though it appears that you don't need the business. I'm glad to see you doing so well down there, while we're still in a snowy winter landscape. I wish you all the best as always and thanks again! Thanks for selling queenless packages. You are so right, beginners should leave the queen in her cage and let the workers get her out through the candy plug.

I absolutely love to see this and find it so fascinating how the bees just instinctively know they've got the perfect queen. It'll also mean that since she's been accepted she'll be busy destroying those queen cells since they always kill off any potential Queens and there's only one Queen within a colony.

I direct released 2 queens last night after they were in the boxes for 24 hrs. Both were attacked by what appeared to be robbing of the hives. After a stressful 90 minutes and both queens flying away, I managed to recapture them and re-cage them. One should be cautious doing this, I almost lost both of my new queens. I think the nucs I was putting them in were too weak to defend the colony. Also, the lack of resources from a recent cold snap caused robbing within 2 minutes of my opening the boxes. I am not saying this doesn't work, just sharing my experience.

picked up my two nuc's the 8th at Barnyard Bees, installed them into the Hive the 14th, this is my first experience with bees, it went great. The bees were gentle just like David said. Found the Queen in one nuc did not see the other one but bees were busy so i will see her later when i do my first inspection on the 25th , like i said this is my first time and it was great. Thanks to Barnyard Bees for sharing their Knowledge, and all the wonderful video's.

If a queen is installed in a queenless hive & she’s doing good the next day, what are the chances the bees reject her after a day has passed? Another question: how long before the new queen begins laying?
@davidhaught844 жыл бұрын
Odds are that if she made it a day, they have excepted her. She should start laying immediately.

Just subscribed to your other channel, I live in the city but have had chickens in the past and the neighbor that introduced us to city chickens told us about how she had also kept bees. We have been interested in the idea ever since. Hopefully one day we will get to the point where we can finally get a small building and since we own we can try our hands at keeping bees...anyway, thanks for all the work you do and thanks for sharing, i look forward to the marathon I'm going to embark on checking out your other channel. I have had very good success direct releasing queens. What I do is heavily, heavily smoke the hive for several minutes from above and below (using a screened bottom board). Apparently, this so disrupts the bees' ability to smell and detect pheromones that when their scent returns all they smell is the new queen. I have never lost a queen doing this.

What would have happened if you left the cells in with her? Im in that situation now. Made a split, added a queen, then a couple days later I saw 2 capped queen cells. Now theres a new queen and cells in a 2 frame nuc. Will the virgin kill her? Or will they eventually break down the cells. I dont have enough resources to do another split.
