This is really good info and I've heard the same that those emergency cells are no good. Trust nature, the bees know what they are doing.

Just curious, do you have to have special homeowners insurance for having bees on your property?

Nah I'd rather be careful then sorry even if they're friendly. Sting from either is the worst pain

Hi David. I’m sitting here in Denmark, Europe trying to use the 2-frame mini nucs. The season has just started early May. Our spring is march to May. I don’t now how the seasons are in North Georgia, but is it to early to start making new colonies this early ? At this time of year, the bees are not making queen cells yet.

how did you make the feeder on the 2 frame nuc
@JustBees7 күн бұрын
Oh yes. Spot swaps. I did a video on this recently. Been doing it for a few years with a few more advanced concepts. The 2 frame is very very basic. Once you get the trick, you will learn that in 3 weeks, you could have had a lot more than just a new mated queen and a frame of drawn comb. For example, if you gave the foragers drawn comb, they would have focused on collecting nectar during flow while she was maturing. Imagine that on a larger 5 frame nuc? Or a large established colony. There are some additional details and tricks to keep it focused. But the foundation of it is using the bees colony regulation strategically. The forager heavy colony can’t draw near as much comb as the young brood nest with the existing queen. The foragers will be lounging after a while or drift on some level. It’s a really in-depth subject. I’ve tinkered it to death over the last few years. It’s quite an art form once you get it down.

Thank you so much for this video! The contributing comments and replies are so useful too! I really want to do this in my brood box, you’ve given me the know how and excitement to get going! Thank you!

Sounds like the workers are the “queen” since they make the decisions and not the “queen” herself. I guess she’s there to lay eggs and not actually in charge.

I'm convinced good drown population is what makes longer life queens. Started 2 frames use 3years ago. 5frame box 50%, 2 frame 6 out of 7. Keep on keeping on!!!

Supersedure cells actually are the same as grafted queen cells if you have heavily crowded beehives or nucs lots of bees lots of royal jelly bingo

When you catch a swarm do you always use a 2 frame swarm box? My wife and I have had bees for 8 years and always used 5 frame swarm boxes are 2 frame boxes better?
@paulschaefer52418 күн бұрын
I hear a lot of people tell how supersedure cells are no good. Last year I had a hive that supeceded. That turned out to be my best queen.

We live in the California east bay 24 miles north east of SF the cold weather season is always above freezing and we feed our 4 hives sugar honey water almost all year only a teaspoon of honey per quart jar we’ve been raising bees about eight years and we only had them leave 2 times. My friend about a mile down the road has never fed his bees anything and they leave at least 2 times in the fall and spring every year. What’s going on???😮

Excellent information David. That's not something that any new bee keeper would know about. I'll definitely pass this gem along to my be keeping friends. Thanks for sharing.

Just built 2 of these…and made a split into each. Excited to see how they turn out in a couple weeks. Will check this weekend for queen cells to make sure I have them viable larvae the right age.

I ordered Bees on 4/23/24, received confirmation, and later an email stating Bees were shipped on 4/27/24. I have been trying to contact someone as to where the Bees are. The tracking number leads to Chatsworth, Georgia where the Bees are pending/waiting for approval for release? Can I get some help please?

@barnyardbees hello. Ordered some bees from you earlier in the month. Well the bees decided to build their comb in the opposite direction of the of the frames! They’re doing great but with the comb going the wrong direction we’re not sure what to do. We don’t want to disturb them too much but it’s making it impossible to view how the their doing now. Lol. Any tips / help would be awesome

I got a wax coated 10 frame 2 large deeps and small super last week and put it in its place for my first ever bees. Picking up my 5 frame nuc today so I went tonight to check and see if I had gotten a swarm which was my original plan until yesterday. Already got a carpenter bee bored about a foot into my super box.... stuck a long flexible stick in that far and it started buzzing. Is this common??
