I get asked about new Twisted Metals as well as remasters of old Twisted Metals all the time. So I wanted to just make a video that I could point people to where all the info lived. This is that video :). Hope you are well! :)

I think the reason why Twisted Metal fans come with questions, demands and requests in regards to the Twisted Metal franchise is because in our mind YOU are Twisted Metal very much in the same way that Hideo Kojima is Metal Gear. Now I'm not saying that to discredit all of the handwork other people have put into the franchise over the years but it's easier for people to relate the franchise to a single person rather than the whole development team. It's kinda like that with movies too for example when you go see X movie directed by Steven Spielberg you may do so because he Directed the movie not because ex: Bob Ross the 3rd was the Camera Editor for the movie. Honestly at this point I will take anything that Sony gives me even a barebones online only Title with no story mode because I really want a Twisted Metal title on PS4 with functional Online Mode. Name it Twisted Metal Arena or something like that and have a bunch of maps, characters (not factions on a different car this time), and Sony can sell cosmetic car customization as Microtranscations , DLC, or Loot Boxes if they want to make money that way. Later on if they feel like they received enough return on their investment than they can start spending money to add a story mode to the game and it doesn't have to be expensive I would be satisfied with Comic style images that you used for the story endings you had in Twisted Metal Head On. So yes David in case anyone of importance ever ask you "Are people still interested in Twisted Metal?" Let them know that YES we are still here and we will always be here because Twisted Metal has such a long standing history with PlayStation that it would be a shame if it skips a console generation since it hasn't done that yet.

Yeah TM2 is the king. Black is probably 2nd best with Head-On behind it as well as TM1. TM for PS3 has really great concepts for future gaming, but the factions instead of all the characters is what ruined it.

I was one of the Twisted Metal fans that LOVED both the originals (Twisted1, 2 World Tour, Small Brawl, Black, Head On) and Twisted PS3. Despite the fact that the game had some online issues, Nuke was fun as hell and I loved how the three storylines were incorporated. It was very Watchmen-esque with a bit of the darkness that we saw in Black. It seems Sony is still very much promoting the Twisted IP with their Pop Sweet Tooth figurine and the characters appearing in Drawn to Death.

I agree. I believe it's possible for this to happen. They have done this before. It would expand the audience, potentially bring back some hardcore veterans who've abandoned it, and give the community a bit life again. This Is of course considering that the servers get an overhaul, the skin system Is either brought back or the error associated with accounts being unusable is fixed.

I’d pay a pretty penny for Twisted Metal VR. Even if you were only Sweet Tooth or something. (Not that he was my favorite.) I think a Ultrawings really proves that using your Move controllers to directly control your VR hands which indirectly controls a vehicle is a really fun way to play. I could totally imagine a VR Twisted Metal where you not only drive the car from first person perspective, but can reach around the cabin to manually shift, sweep broken glass out of your way, pull out sidearms for shooting through the windows and punching the buttons to trigger your special moves. Incredible.

Best idea I can think of in recent memory is the way Microsoft did Killer Instinct. It started bare bones but now after 3 seasons it has story mode, arcade, and a challenge mode and went from 8 to 30 characters. I could see Sony using that idea start with the staple 4-6 drivers and add in as it goes

Kinda makes me think of Quake Champions or OW / Paladins, releasing new characters and content as time goes on. I wouldn't mind that. Start off small, but big enough to have good online play, expand from there with new maps and drivers, classic and new. Even some bosses if they were toned down just enough (a good TM player can take out the likes of playable Minion and Dark Tooth easily enough). Even have some new gamemodes previously not seen in the TM games like TDM or CTF. If Quake Champions can be held together by a small team for a niche audience, I'm sure Twisted Metal can be, as well.

I'd buy a PS4 for TM-PS3 Remaster - Improved online and matchmaking functionality, some weapon damage and homing tweaks, Twister and Yellow Jacket. It's true. There are TM fans who have gravitated to different aspects of the game, and to the franchise as a whole; but with these different aspects, it has amalgamated to be not what only makes Twisted Metal what it is, but it is or should be the gold standard for a great car-combat game - including the online multiplayer - and I don't think many can dispute that without sounding like a sourpuss. Twisted Metal looks, sounds, and feels right. It's visceral. Nothing like getting a point blank with the shotgun, tossing and staggering your opponent and having your assistant yell, "Right in the face boss! Right in the fucking face!" with diction, or landing a flaming chainsaw and thrashing the flaming shell of a vehicle into obscurity. The gameplay that caters to different styles and allows for creativity. There are many things that make Twisted Metal so unique that for some reason, nobody can replicate it. To this day there isn't a game that has nowhere near the depth of gameplay mechanics or the creative spark to pull off car-combat that has such an appeal.

Crossout is okay, but it's a cheaply-made f2p with a minuscule amount of similarities to Twisted Metal. A great game in concept especially the addition of such an extensive amount of vehicle customization that Twisted Metal never even got to see (aside from the very limited one from Twisted Metal 4), but it's definitely what it's worth and that's a f2p, pay-to-win microtransactions festival.

To be honest It would be cool to see a remaster of Twisted 2 but I would much rather have a new one altogether. Well actually I don't know cause if they made a new one, would It even be TM anymore? David & Scott don't work together anymore also... The team that worked on this one Is all split up too. I just don't see TM being done in an authentic way If it's just handed to some random developers budgeted by SONY making a gamble with a random revival of TM. Not to sound pessimistic... It's just hard to imagine.... The semantics like Single Player, Splitscreen, or whatever else aren't really that important to me. If they make a entirely new TM the only thing I'd like Is for effort to be put in where It matters which Is the gameplay. The stories can be per character or there can be absolutely no story. I'm not gonna be picky about that at this point because at the end of the day, the chance of an authentic TM that Isn't just a random gamble for cash which has almost none of the core elements that make TM what It is are fairly slim.... Either way It's nice to see so many fans commenting. Yeah. TM being finished forever and skipping an entire console generation Is not a bad thing If you no longer give a damn about the franchise. For many who do, despite the flaws In the PS3 iteration, It would be the worst thing for TM to just end on the note It's on. A loot crate item, and a little nod to the franchise In rocket league Isn't indicative of anything progressive in that sense, though It's nice to see that the franchise Isn't forgotten, and the IP was ensured to be owned by SONY In 2015, which shows they still want it to be In their arsenal for future possibilities. I understand the concern of many not seeing anything positive down the road, but the last thing I would want Is to see It die with the PS3, and either way, that's absolutely not going to happen knowing how SONY is. It's hard NOT to be pessimistic about it, but I don't think It's the correct way of viewing the situation. TMPS3 wasn't a dud, It didn't make them lose millions, It just didn't meet their expectations. But that's largely their fault. They didn't put the extra effort to market the franchise, or even support it. Because they already spent so much, It was hard for them to justify spending even more. But they didn't realize what an investment It would be If they had kept support and innovation going with it. I would much rather TMPS3 be ported onto PS4 with new tweaks and server / skin glitch fixes than have a new TM. This would be the segway into a new installment in the franchise. Without TMPS3 getting a better rep, It will be almost impossible to market a new TM. There still is nothing like TM. If you're comparing in aesthetics, then sure. But the fact remains nothing on the market compares to what TMPS3MP is. I'm not expecting a AAA title right off the bat. I want them to test the waters. But the first strategic and clever step would be to revive TMPS3. And this Is absolutely possible. There has to be other steps taken first before an entirely new game Is developed.... First of all It's a niche cultured genre. Second of all, It's not even well known to the new generations. The first step Is to include the PS4 community In the possibility of trying out the game. The servers fixed, and some balance tweaks, that game will kick off quickly. Trust me. Most didn't see the game In the initial months. It was ridiculous how many people came and left quickly. Factor in all of that and what It would be like If half of them stayed for the ride, well there would have been easily 5000+ Lobbies daily. The thing with TM as well Is that it was never worldly received. It's mostly a western fascination. Yes, TM isn't as popular as other titles they could budget. That's not the major reason they don't make a new one. The major reason Is because they already gambled In this decade with TM innovations, and due to their lack of support, they failed to uphold what they started. Now they're afraid to gamble again. I'm with Luis and others In the comments when they say that PS3 TM should be revived.... That is more important right now. Because I don't care what anyone says that game has potential to stand with the majority. At least a bit. Custom controls on the PC would fix many complaints as well. Server fixes are easily possible..... The skin glitch fix Is also in the realm of possibility. There's nothing ridiculous or risky about this. If this can happen with TM2, TMBO, then It can easily happen with the console generation succeeding them.... A new TM like a side game or the way Jaffe put It a digital only title.... It would be nice, but It's not going to support the franchise as much as increasing the audience and awareness for the Multiplayer potential would. We have Black as the 3rd best selling PS2 classic on the market..... So we already have the Single Player. TMBO Isn't user friendly, nor popular, and certainly can't be as easy to port to PS4 as TM2012 would. TM2012 was not originally intended to be a Single Player experience. It was tacked on, and It's obvious they overestimated their budget given all the things that they wanted to do that didn't make It into the game. They were going to have 3 endings per character. One for each difficulty to compensate for the lack of characters. So there would have been alternate endings. They didn't have enough time or money to do this, and SONY gives deadlines. They also controlled their funding. That's fine at the end of the day, they should have just finished what they started and not left It a broken pile of ashes. And Jaffe had no control over this. Either way, TM2012 Is primarily a Multiplayer experience, and they should take advantage of that. I really believe the series would get more out of working on something new In the future, If the PS4 got to experience a really fleshed out TM for a decent price and promising, reliable servers.

@5:31 I agree, I think the way to do it is concentrate on the multiplayer but emphasize the special abilities of characters more than in the past. Character driven competitive games are hot now (Overwatch, Dota or any other Moba, fighting games) and Twisted could easily fit in with folks who like those types of games. Add some more team-based, objective based modes. Essentially what I'm trying to say is make it Overwatch with cars, but also include a classic deathmatch mode. Then to please the classic TM crowd just add a half-assed single player because, honestly, that's what all of the single player campaigns before PS3 were anyway. You play deathmatch after deathmatch after deathmatch to unlock a minute-long video epilogue, so that's all they'd need to do for a hypothetical new one. Sony hire me. Also I liked Twisted PS3's multiplayer and I wish I played it more around its release because last I checked online it was pretty dead, and it's dead because classic TM fans (the ones who should be playing PS3) would rather cobble together a shoddy pseudo-infrastructure to play Black Online than just play the PS3 version. If they're going to make a new Twisted it's going to have to have 4 player offline and 4 player per system LAN.
@JohnSWeekley

I'm so down with "Overwatch" TM (I probably compare it more to Quake Champions considering it'd be most likely a small team to cater a niche audience). Have a small roster at first, branch out with more and more, classic and new. Classic and new maps. New gamemodes fitting for car combat (CTF, anyone?). Give it a cool comic artstyle similar to TM1, TM2, and Head-On. I think it'd work.

Basically a HD remake of the original Playstation TM games all rolled into one.

As a group of us veteran TM 2012 players were playing online and chilling on Skype, it was quite a surprise and topic of discussion for this video to get uploaded while we were playing! One thing I can say about the community is that it is far more unified than it is fractured, especially in comparison to other IPs. Most importantly, the criticism almost always comes from a deep love of the series and the genre as a whole. Simply put, nothing on the market compares. If anything else, TM 2012 remastered would be a dream come true. I can guarantee that if the servers are in working order at launch, the online multiplayer would be far more populous. Above all, to my knowledge there are many assets that had already been developed for the game as unreleased DLC that could be included in a remaster with minimal additional effort. Honestly, I would be game for any new shot at Twisted Metal Sony's willing to take. As long as they stay true to the franchise and above all, take the feedback of the veteran players to heart, I'm down for another entry in the series. I wholeheartedly believe the consumer base exists. Whether it be casuals who have fond memories of the games from their youth, or those looking for a remarkably deep multiplayer experience, it can be a success.

Vehicular Combat needs to be the spotlight, and overthrow Battle Royale popularity. Being a part of the demolition derby is fun. Smashing cars, and running over contestants is still fun. Blowing up cars are also fun. I think the stages will have to be focused on so you will never be bored of looking of what is around you. A good-looking game, with needless kane on the cover is the game I would kill for. I actually like Calpyso, and the drivers background. The lore is interesting. TM-Black is the best TM game due to a big roster of drivers, and the atmosphere. Maybe be inspired by the Battle Royale genre, and make a mode where there can be a 100 drivers. Driver customization would be a must, and you can play as the single player drivers in online. Maybe this will make a new genre called Vehicular Combat Battle Royal. VCBR for short.

Thanks for the video, David. It's just such a niche genre with so many complexities to it it's almost impossible to please everyone and still make a game that in which the results compensate for the budget they'd use for it.... The multiplayer aspect of this game I just kind of hope you understand how deep some people got into it. Cause obviously If you're super proud of the team and the depth It potentially had than you would be even more interested to see how many people actually pushed that depth to it's limit. Most of them aren't with the community of hardcore veterans now, but there quite a few who enjoyed the game enough to learn It's ins and outs and really be creative with some of the mechanics.

I imagined a twisted metal game last night that combines both a third person shooter along with car combat. The third person shooting mechanics sort of work like gears of war, and these instances are kinda short, but they’re spaced out to give variety to the gameplay. There would be introduced maps that have a linear pacing instead of only being limited to arena sorts of maps, though those would be added in as well. Characters may go through levels and reach dead ends where the character would have to sometimes climb out of his car to get into buildings (take example climb through a ladder into an abandoned building with guns) and fight other character factions that try to prevent the character from exiting the building. Then once the character escapes the building, he can get into another vehicle and fight other car combatants outside in an arena sort of setting. It would be focused on combat in general and wouldn’t have any of that racing that twisted metal ps3 had. All the cars are sort of placed in areas outside of buildings by calypso for all the surviving individuals who shot their way out of the buildings guarded by faction members or calypso’s pawns to enter inside.- imagine like manhunt combined with twisted metal. This would include some of the characters from twisted metal black and TM2 in the game

I think you really underestimated how much people enjoyed the characters of Twisted Metal 1/2/Head-On + Black. I can tell you for certain when I started playing Head-On and I only saw 3 "gangs," I immediately got discouraged. I also didn't like that there was a playable helicopter or a big ass truck like Juggernaut. I thought the lore of Twisted Metal was really sweet, and really enjoyed when seeing how the plot would turn out, like Roadkill becoming Sweet Tooth. Then again, I also really enjoyed the brutality of Black and remember the Mr. Grimm story line and finding out why he wears a skull. The ideas that were present in both were amazing, and it kept making me want to play more and more to find out the rest of the story lines. When you are only doing three, people blow through that too quickly and it wasn't really worth the investment from a story perspective. Regarding multiplayer, I feel that Twisted Metal had that in spades with co-op back in the day. I remember my brothers and I playing through the campaign non-stop and got hooked on it. I think you still need couch multiplayer, but you also need online too. I was trying to think of ways Twisted Metal could hook in people to keep playing, and I think of some sort of progression/leveling system, but something more similar to Overwatch than some of the more dubious titles out there, as I feel you shouldn't pay-wall players from content, and you also shouldn't make the fights uneven. Then again, League of Legends is incredibly popular with their balance, but it's on PC and has a bigger audience it can capture. Perhaps start a new IP that is a spiritual successor to TM on PC? But maybe that's it... maybe Twisted Metal is not a franchise that is going to be the game played on Twitch by all the popular streamers non-stop. Maybe it's just a title that is destined for people who blow through the story mode, have a good time, and then wait for the next one to continue the story. I'm not sure... I don't have the ideas, but I can tell you I would certainly love more TM 1/2/Head-On/Black and not so much TM 2012 (besides some of the cool story).

Battle Royale. That’s how they are going to bring it back, it makes a lot of sense. Market it as a return for a PlayStation classic series getting a revamp like crash did. Maybe even bundle it with a remaster of the original game like Call of Duty: MWR, that could even bring up the price of the game because this title would instead be a smaller title that works like a service. The story mode and challenge mode make their return with a heavy multiplayer component, and they can call it battle Royale, the game is already a massive free for all. The service aspect could be adding characters, paint jobs, cars, power ups, etc. So many customisable items that they could sell as micro transactions. Of course they would have continual updates to the game, like balance updates but also events! With remasters of old ps1 games and the ps1 nostalgia trend that’s been happening lately and the fact that twisted metal black is selling so well on the PlayStation store, it would be the perfect time! I kinda want to see this happen so bad now

I'm not going to lie at first the PS3 Twisted Metal got me like "What? Just three cars for the story? Why?" But I enjoyed it regardless and it was fun. I am a man that doesn't mind trying new things. A remastered is a step in the right direction because it can please Oldschool fans such as myself (I hope TM2 gets remastered or I finally get to try TMB...Bought a physical copy of PS3 Twisted Metal for my friend...and also in case if I get a PS3 of my own I can take it back, its at his house atm...and it came with a code for TMB but the code doesn't work ;^; dammit) and please new audience members. Kinda surprised, I always thought you always owned the rights to the game you technically created but Sony owns it. I am sure Sony will maybe eventually decide to remaster one of the Twisted Metal series eventually and once that happens Man.... I gotta save up some money and buy myself a goddamn PS4

I know this is off topic, David, but my favorite thing about the Twisted Metal series is when I, figuratively, literally shit my pants when I heard the soundtrack of Rob Zombie and others playing in my car speakers after inserting the disc in the CD player. I never would have thought technology could do that at that time. Oh, and 2,Black,1 is my #1,2,3. :)

I could see Sony doing a smaller battle royal style game since those are popular these days, but I mostly agree, the brand is probably going on hiatus for a while. A MediEvil/Crash style "remaster" would be neat though, there's a lot of nostalgia around the PS1 games that could be tapped into. Particularly TM2. It's cool hearing your candid opinion on this, David! :)

Twisted Metal: Black was so hype. Any decent mall I went to around North America had this game playing on a big promo television screen somewhere. Basically the flagship game for PS2 in 2001 into 2002. The level of detail and creativity that went into Twisted Metal: Black was outstanding. Twisted Metal should always be it's own unique entity. There was and still is no need to reference or compare Twisted Metal to anything GTA or Naughty Dog related. In this interview, I feel like I'm listening to a try hard video game company executive talking about Twisted Metal. Hopefully one day someone lights back up that fire again for what Twisted Metal is and always will represent: badass twisted vehicular combat mayhem. Strap in, you freak!

I've had a lot of fun playing twisted metal on PS3. When we had full rooms and everyone competing, it was tons of fun. I loved it. It lacked a bit of polish, but if i could ever get a complete match and a full game room going, I'd be down to play. I'm just waiting patiently. I remember talks about every console upgrade bringing twisted metal closer to the original envisioning. Is seems odd with the PS4s power, and potential to do the series justice, to not have it. It's like. I'm sure you guys see what didn't work for the PS3 game, but.. I know it's not that simple.

Been playing Twisted Metal since the first and own them all as of last year. It's such a shame to see that my favorite series that got me into gaming in the first place is hitting this dead end at this generation. Twisted Metal was one of thee most diverse types of arcade-styled games that existed and in PS1's era we saw just how much on an impact Twisted Metal made by revolutionizing the car-combat genre with several games following such as Vigilante 8 and Rogue Trip. Twisted Metal was the first and currently is the last standing of the refined, extensive version of the car-combat genre. Vigilante made what seems to have been a final stand last gen with a small, compact arcade variant (much like the scale and simplicity that Rocket League is) which was executed well for its scale but lacked any proper attention as it was a solid game that had players online in the first few months. Hell even if Sony decided to make something like that but with that touch of quality that Twisted Metal has, I think fans would be satisfied and that it could possibly draw attention if they give attention to how they're going to entice newcomers to get it. 4k visuals with the traditional vehicle line-up and the story mode comprising of a set of all the available stages reminiscent of to how the original Twisted Metal games and have comic-book styled endings similar to Head-On. A small package Twisted Metal would make for an excellent tide over. We don't want to see Twisted Metal forgotten. Twisted Metal was the sole reason I got a PS1, PS3, and PSP and pretty much the only game series I look forward to out of Playstation. We definitely miss your (and your staffs') work, Mr. Jaffe. I really hope there's a future for Twisted Metal (and that my PS4 won't go without a Twisted Metal game (somehow)) and I know I'm not the only one to think this. P.S. If you ever do work on a full-scale Twisted Metal, PLEASE consider the idea of bringing back the custom vehicles idea from Twisted Metal 4. I know you guys would be able to expand upon that immensely with current technology, even if it was simply pulling a "Piecemeal" and having where you can mix-n-match parts of the vehicles featured in the game.

Okay. Here’s my take on it and it may not be popular but to touch on something you Mentioned about the franchise being fractured. You are absolutely right. The fact that twisted PS3 had racing and shit made it feel more like Full Auto than a true twisted metal. Now I’ve also been playing the series since ‘96. The game WAS my childhood and obsession and has been ever since. I am looking more towards compelling stories and excellent gameplay with split screen coop. I am not against the newer generation of gamers by all means, but honestly the game play of the very first level of twisted PS3 should have been consistent throughout with maybe one or two of the missions of juggernaut staying. As that’s what makes you think of twisted metal is devastating and intense car combat. Nail biting boss fights and mind blowing stories. Not to say that Sweet tooth’s special wasn’t good in twisted PS3 but dollface has been played out and seeing much repetition from her story. Mr Grimm was also very forgettable. Call me harsh I understand but looking back at black and how things were split up from a prologue middle and end story. They did that for each and every character. Hell even some of the hidden characters had at least an ending. So much effort and love was put into that game. I still play it to this very day. I have owned and still own every twisted ever made and I like them all for individual reasons. If Sony should make another twisted try and appease the crowd that originated from the roots of franchise. Those of us who were old enough to remember 989 studios taking over twisted 3 and 4 and even the way that incognito threw in small brawl right before black was released back on the psx Bring back those stories. Let me relive my childhood in a good way. Twisted was all I had back in that time and throughout all the people I’ve lost over the years and getting older I’d really be brought to tears to see a twisted that would bring me back to those years. To let me experience that old joy but in a whole different way. Thanks for responding to us, David. Your feedback and time has been appreciated and I think I speak on behalf of all of us old timers from your creation. I’m hoping this isn’t the last we hear on this and hopefully we can either join in a celebration of a new edition or find a way to relish in what we have been given and try and hold onto the past and the last great video game franchise to hang up the towel in a new generation so willing to throw away the old or the not call of duty popular or ‘in demand’

I believe Harbor City had potential of being an incredible Twisted Metal game. I loved what they were gonna do with the gameplay such an on foot adventure mode, a fully destructible massive city, online multiplayer, (assuming it wad gonna be in it) and a deep look into Midtown itself. What do you guys think? Would you like to see Harbor City along with a remastered collection on PS4?

As much I want a new twisted metal game that continues the story, I honestly just want them to make a a new game with an update engine, put in every single character as playable, every character has all the skins and their specials, then remaster all the maps, and make it online with up to 16 players in a match. Huge project, but if they wanted to make money back, id happily buy map packs and voice lines for cars. Even different car skins.

Everything bout tm ps3 to me was just excellent. When u were able to get an online match to actually work, it played flawlessly imho. The only thing I have issues with all of the games. Is in single player mode the enemies just bum rush the shit outta you. They don't do not fight each other. Say what you will about tm3,bland maps by numbers design etc. The enemies did engage one another and even sprinted for health. I also loved the way the cars handled and the physics. They felt like cars driving and even looked cool when they would overtake you..I remember doing donut powerslides as thumper and how cool it looked and felt. Anyways I think a balanced ps4 tm 2012 remaster would be superb. I loved how much customization u could do in that one and playing ur own music. I would love a full on remake of 1 or and 2 but to me Head On was pretty much that in my eyes. That was a blast for a psp port. Jaffe you are a awesome dude and I have tremendous respect for you sir. Someday car combat will return. Maybe a new Rogue Trip perhaps ?

Jaffe's absolutely right about the difficulty of pleasing a fractured community. I found the PS3 version to be one of the best experiences of the series, but brought down by questionable design choices and broken multiplayer. It was a very earnest attempt to bring the franchise into the modern era and it seems that with hindsight in mind, Sony ought to give Jaffe another go at it.

The game needs to be reworked, the only way for twisted metal to work today in 2019 is by making the fights online in a huge map . The animations of the cars needs to be as realistic as possible. If 2 cars ram into each other, the impact should feel real, for instance on impact, we can see car parts flying off, that would beb cool. Cars needs to look detailed and look damaged when low on health. The driving is an important aspects and needs to feel perfect. The characters need to be creative and authentic, each with their own special abilities and back stories.

the only way I see this working is that it's a battle royale game (isn't that the premise of the actual story ?) all story is shown in either text or comic style slide shows possibly with voice acting? to accommodate having to make stories for a bunch of characters. Also, most of the characters are hidden behind a paywall, DLC or you have to grind for so long just to get them or pay for in-game currency which would justify having a large roster.

To be honest if even as someone who grew up on TM, I feel I would not buy a online only TM. For me what intrigued me about the IP was the personalities. Every Character oozed personality, and the car even more so. Even levels felt alive with so many things to discover and explore. I feel a multiplayer focused TM would kill most things I enjoy about it. Balancing each car for competitive play would strip away originality, no story to develop these interesting story, Map focused on multiplayer would remove all secret and exploration aspects to it (and size would need to be shrunk down by a lot). TM is a single player experience to me.

Hi David! Huge fan of your games, since the original Twisted Metal way back when. I'd definitely love to see the series come back and I think you make great, rational points in this video. I love the original games, Black as well as TM PS3. Seeing games such as League of Legends/DOTA/etc. and Overwatch all be super huge properties based around unique characters with their own class based skills, but TM kind of languish/not be as appreciated as much as I personally feel it should, kind of sucks. Definitely agree that Twisted Metal PS3 was some of the most fun, engaging multiplayer (when it worked smoothly) that I've played and I would have loved to see it blow up in popularity. I do think a new-age TM with an emphasis on the characters with different playstyles attributed to them, designed as a GaaS title with an emphasis on the community/cosmetics could do well and think it could be something that Sony should maybe consider. Sad to hear what happened with your latest project and team and I hope things are well and moving in great directions. Excited to see what you're doing next!

Remasters and reboots are a big thing on ps4 and although TM already had a reboot, it could totally use another. Either the finished TM Black 2, or a remaster of TM1/2 possibly put together, or just a straight up new TM game would suffice. All that really matters is a fresh TM game needs to be put on ps4 before the ps5 comes out.

The multiplayer of Twisted Metal ps3 was fantastic, but I feel like something was missing from the level design. In 2, you could blow up the Eiffel Tower and it would give you access to the roof. In Black, you shoot down a plane and it unlocks an entire tunnel, full of powerups and even an unlockable to be collected. There was nothing of the sort in the ps3 game. I get that they decided to focus on different aspects of the gameplay, but to me, the secrets have always been what set Twisted Metal apart from the competition.
