Lovely video! About the birds, they probably stayed away from your first DIY birdbath because the bottom was black. As you discovered later on, birds often look for specific water depths to bathe in, and before you put the gravel in they probably thought the water was much too deep!

Great video! Birds don’t care about the colour of the bath (black creates less algae growth), birds care about the depth and like a lot of humans, are leery about jumping into unknown water and prefer to wade in gradually until they know that the water depth is not a hazard. Birds are actually quite good at floating in deeper water if needed, but they still need a way to get out. Most commercial baths are too deep. I build my own recirculating water baths and they all go crazy for the running water. I love it when the birds soak in the water right up to their arm pits.

Once I was fortunate enough to witness 7 different types of birds In The Bath all taking turns at bathing. Bought tears to me... if the birds can get along like that, certainly we can too. ?? @@davidmbird You are welcome. C.S. Lewis wrote of the indescribable longing we experience at times in our lives . . . (for me, a sunset, breeze, sounds of birds outside my window as the sunlight illumines fluttering curtains, draws my heart and often brings tears of yearning to be HOME.). It’s a yearning to belong; to be known and valued, warts and all. He posits that God doesn’t give us longings without the possibility of satisfying the longings. Your BeCorn scenes capture the loving “rightness” of relationship and are little glimpses of the fulfillment of the desire each of us has to belong. You have been entrusted with an awesome gift that gives honest snippets of hope and joy to a world in need, and you are touching millions of hearts. i have to be honest. as much as i love becorns (i mean, seriously, the imagination that lead to their creation... people like you, i live in genuine awe of) what i love most about your videos is the process of your own learning. you don't go into these setups as an expert, you don't query an expert to get tips and tricks and behaviors for your target photo birds. you just trial and error that stuff until you figure it out. that willingness to explore independently and learn and iterate is something i wish we could actually teach in schools instead of crushing it. if you ever figure out how to educate that willingness to learn by incremental iterative learning towards a goal... the futures our children could realize ... it staggers the mind.
