Pro-Forme Flexi Hollower and Irons Tool Gate - First Look

I give some new tools a spin and give my initial thoughts on them.
The video is fairly long so I won't be offended if you skip through some parts. I let it be fairly unedited so that a person looking to buy the tool gets a better feel for it.

Hi David as you have shown a great tool ,I suggest you slow down the lathe speed and also your travel across the wood and you wont get the chatter .Using the straight link in a vase is also beneficial Cheep up the good work cheers

Thanks for the video David, but please, if you are going to stick your hand in the hollow, either make sure you tool rest is pulled back, or stop the lathe. You will get away with it a thousand times and then........................

I bought the cutter head and made the rest myself..works great 👍 no way I will pay like $350 bucks for some handles and tool rest that are easy to make ( just grinding and drilling)

So this is what David Wallace has been up to after Dunder Mifflin... :-P Great video by the way. That's a pretty neat tool. I've used a system that's a multi-link snake for a while with a laser guide and I have to say its really a great tool.

Love seeing that Robust. I would disagree with the slow it down comments. Im guessing it's the aggressiveness of the cut. Back off the tool as you're completing the finish. Of course, you could also switch to a scraper. Nice work

maybe having closer tolerance on the holes in the rest and the pins on the yokes might cut down on the noise and chatter

A large carbide cutter first makes less work and is faster. Also, a steady rest of some kind will minimize chatter.

Thank you for your honest review of this system. I am searching for a hollowing system that is affordable and pretty straightforward . I am sure this system has a learning curve, like most systems. My concern for this system is the round stock. Does the bar want to twist when you cut? After getting the feel for it, did you feel like you had more control of the cuts? I appreciate your input :)

@@KimTippin I have liked the elbow tool. I have tried two makes and they chatter too much. The Lyle Jamison system works very well and I have done dozens of pieces so far. KC

Would you sat it helps when getting catches, as i'm a new wood turner but have very weak hands to hold the tool

Just personal opinion the chatter would be eliminated by using a steady rest.
