People hate burton because burton is arguably the face of snowboarding. Snowboarding was built on a counter culture vibe (by Burton ironically) so if it’s too popular snowboarders will hate it. Honestly, a lot of my gear is burton except my deck and boots. I love my burton gear. It’s gear made by a huge company so if anything goes wrong they are quick to fix it and you can usually find it pretty cheap during end of season sales. Ride what’s fun. The solution for the bindings coming loose is Blue Loctite (blue is removable). The reason it happens is that hot temperatures make metal expand, cold temperatures make metal contract. Every time you move your snowboard from a warm environment to a cold one (car, house, lodge to outside ice and snow) the metal expands and contracts and causes it to become loose.

Shouldn't have to do that with bindings that cost hundreds$$$ and only fit on their EST set up. I'm rocking some 2013 burton mission bindings in 2020 and yes they have like 6 or 7 not factory parts that I've replaced over the years but they don't wiggle even a millimeter. Ever. I'll be damned if I get a new pair of bindings that I need to use loctite on in this first damn season. And can only use channel bindings on a channel board? Hard pass. I like to have options or if i had a channel board for a season then decided to buy a non channel board from another brand, i should absolutely be able to just put my old bindings on my new non-channel board. The channel system is all about $$$$ & yes there are "benefits", like putting the bindings literally anywhere you want but let's be real.....have you ever not been able to get NORMAL bindings where they should be? If so you're doing it wrong anyways. Just my 2cents
@fishermenunite4 жыл бұрын
DO NOT USE LOCTITE. I work at a snowboard shop and it is the reason i’ve seen bindings come in that have literally exploded. It eats away the metal in the board. Loctite is made for copper piping. If you need to get hardware for your board look up your bindings on the company website and buy it directly from them.

Will I loctite my bindings if needed considering they are from 2013, absolutely. My point being loctite shouldn't be a thought when it's a new pair of bindings, and sadly I've seen it be used on basically brand new est bindings. That's not a good product. In my OPINION. I've worked in rentals and one trick that seems to help if you know exactly what setting you want for EST is to get the thinnest rubber washers you can find and put them between the board and binding. That can help with making sure it maintains grip when you stomp it. That said I much prefer LTR bindings for the peace of mind.

First Burton I rode set my standard for good boards. It was the Haakon Air (Terje Haakonsen’s first pro model). That board was sweet. So fast, so smooth. It was so much better than any other board I had ridden at that point. But that was also in the era of the whole Burton 3D insert patent crap and "You can't patent fun" stuff. Burton really really really wanted to sell a pair of bindings with every board. Fair enough and they make good bindings, but if they couldn't get that binding sale they wanted a piece of the take. Skating had already been through the silly proprietary mounts and had settled on something that was good for shops and the consumer. Burton will claim there were benefits to 3d, but the real benefit was selling more bindings. As far as modern boards. Burton still makes solid boards (like Specialized makes solid bikes), but the value doesn't seem to be there at the low end. Their top end boards are great, their low end boards have a lot of brand recognition profit margin built-in (so you can get more tech and a better base from a different brand). I'd say Burton is a safe bet. Grab any Burton board and it's not going to suck. You might have been able to get more bang for your buck, but you were on the slopes instead of researching Rome vs Yes vs Rosi vs Lago or whatever. Tons of brands out there and lots are creating great boards (and some are producing utter garbage). Burton is the easy button.

Most of you are too young to know the history behind Burton. They started in 1977 when just about every single resort in the states banned the sport. They paved the way for what snowboarding is today in so many ways. And since some of you are comparing it to Apple, the same thing goes. Both companies made a once niche market become high tech and popular. Burton with the culture and lifestyle behind snowboarding that allowed other companies to grow and prosper as a result. Apple reinvented the cell phone as well as tablets and music players. If it wasn't for Apple, Samsung wouldn't have anything to copy (check the amount of lawsuits against Samsung). While some of you think Burton (and Apple) is for elitist fan boy types, be grateful that if it wasn't for them you really wouldn't have all of the choices you have today.

Burton USED to have prominence in performance when that was the companies main goal, while also railroading the way through the beginning years of the sport. Then, burton moved entire productions overseas to machine stamped and lesser quality products. Why is this certain? Because foreign industries - specifically Asia- do not have near/at all the same material quality regulations. For every material used. Problem solved. 👍 Today, the best decks - what ever your style - are still artisan crafted.

if screws are loosening, take them out completely and apply some medium strength threadlocker to the threads. Medium strength will be in the blue bottle. This should keep them put.

I tighten my est bindings very few trips. I love the freedom with them.
I’ve never had my EST binding system loosen up or rip out on many different burton boards including an old 2011 burton fish. Are you tightening them enough? Too much?

Honestly I didn’t realize people hated Burton, they have good stuff for a reason. I guess they just want to go against one of the most popular brands to be cool. Which is fine, whatever floats their boats but I have no shame wearing or riding Burton stuff

The two people that I know who hate BURTON are the ones that complain about pricing to performance and those who buy their gear with insufficient knowledge. If anyone ever feels like their bindings are wiggling on a Burton board they could be strip Out of the channel system. Although any board with enough pressure will do the same. To prevent my bindings from coming loose in the channel system I have used thread locker blue. This provides more stability when I am putting the board into heavy presses or Ollies. If pricing is a major issue I would recommend buying demo gear in good condition or last year's models. Although I would never say one company is the best due to the multitude of variations in riding and brand manufacturing. My recommendation is to know how to demo boards, based on your existing equipment and understand your normal writing conditions.

I think maybe that perception is because Jake Burton has been around since the early days and he's become the man, and you know how you snowboarding surfing skating types love to hate 'the man'.....I heard he's chilled....they innovate and sometimes it doesn't perform as you'd like but you know what, they keep on innovating, you gotta be on board with that dudes?!
@goodridevibes6 жыл бұрын
turtlezed nailed it man, Jake is the reason we can actually ride the hills with skiers (used to be banned from resorts), however, he also mainstreamed the sport which your hard core riders don’t like.

I still have a Burton Joystick for 11 years now. No issues at all. Just bought a Burton Custom this year. Trying out Step On also. The only thing that stuck about them is that I can't get the gear in my size. Always sold out, or Burton just doesn't make enough. I always hear it's sold out for the season. I guess I need to start paying attention and buy them in the summer. Lol. But in the end. It's just another board maker to me. I'll ride any board.

All the rental boards are burton so I associate that brand with beginners. I feel if I wear a burton down the mountain I get looked at by other snowboarders on the mountain in a condescending way so I just don’t use one.

Ok I dont hiw long you guys have been riding for but when I was first learning how to ride we had other brands like forum which was a huge brand with big riders and great videos they did a lot for boarding not that burton hasn't. BUT burton bought them out shut em down, same as other brands like sessions, special blend probably more bought them.out stole.their tech shut em down. That's why because burton runs a monopoly on snowboarding. But R.I.P. Jake burton you've done a lot for the sport we love God bless

Hi! Your channel is great! Btw I love Burton because I learned to ride on a Burton LTR 155w with positive camber, right from my first lesson. Burton board weight 2x as much as Capita Snowboard. I ride the Burton Process camber for 2 years now, and when I demo the Capita Mercury and DOA, I was blown away at how much easier I can tuck up my legs in the air when hitting a jump because theyre so light.

This one is easy for me. I've been snowboarding for 24 years and every Burton product I've owned BROKE within a season or 2. every Burton board I've owned broke within 2 seasons, every binding broke within the first season and every boot got horribly sloppy soft within the first season also. Even their gloves, I rip holes right through the fingers in the first season. So for me Burton is out. Through the years Ive tried just about every major board / binding / boot brands out there and have a nice quiver of quality gear now. To me Burton is the APPLE of snowboarding.

Burton is a pioneer of snowboarding. Though I haven't bought a burton board, I know the fact. I own a Santa Cruz board because I skate for long period of time. The natural link of sideway riding motivates me do something on the snow when it is cold outside.

I have the issue of est bindings slipping too. I think it’s because I live in warmer weather and once I take it to the cooler snow weather the bolts must contract and cause them to slide around. I find that if I remember to tighten them well before I go for my very first ride, it holds up ok.
