In this video I'm snowboarding on Whistler mountain and testing out the new 3D snowboard in the Burton Family Tree Line. The name of the snowboard is the Double Dog and it 's a unique snowboard with 3D contours in the nose and tail but also hydrodynamic channels. The shapes and channel are designed to give you more float in powder snow and also a more surfy ride.

The only thing that concerns me with the new Burton 3D boards it’s waxing, scraping, and buffing them. I feel like i spend enough time doing all that on a regular base board. I just rode my new K2 Alchemist through deep powder yesterday and although it’s not 3D, I gotta say that the space glass nose made it float in an unreal fashion even when charging full speed down a steep hill into flatter zones. Never once saw the nose sink with only a 6mm taper too. So I’d say these companies should focus less on 3D and focus more on making their noses extremely lightweight like K2 is now doing on their new Alchemist 🙌🏼
@narrowistheway77
@narrowistheway77 3 жыл бұрын
@@kvurban1 I know right?! They always adapt something someone else did and call it a breakthrough. Pretty sure their biggest advancement they pioneered independently since the 1980’s was the infinite ride and now a bunch of companies do the same thing and call it something else. Bataleon started the 3D snowboard designs 17 years ago and several companies have done it since. In typical Burton fashion they’re doing theirs over the top and making maintenance on their bases a nightmare for the owners 😂

I just got the Jones mind expander for my powder board. I love the float and i agree that the 3D shaping seems to really help. I just got back from Telluride and getting back to the condo requires you to take blacks and double blues or an extremely flat trail. It’s my first rocker board and definitely took a few runs to get used too. Lol! The first black i did with it was really sketchy but got better after a few runs. I definitely feel more comfortable and feel like i have way more control on my camber boards...specially the Arbor Bryan Iguchi Pro Camber. It too has lifted contact points, which come in handy when your legs are shot after a long day. It’s way harder to catch an edge when you are getting lazy with your turns. I will definitely have to look more into this board. 👍

@@MichaelMarvin nah. It has a 247mm waist width on the 161cm which is somewhat narrow but not crazy, it's not really intended for people with size 12+ feet. It's a full camber pow deck, seen before and will carve just fine if your feet are the right size. A snowboard that can't turn shouldn't exist, that's the whole point of the sport. Or else buy a sled
@MichaelMarvin
@MichaelMarvin 3 жыл бұрын
@@th3oryO I mean, there's a difference between making turns on the wide open mountain and making technical slashes through the trees. This is not a tree board, and most pow that you're going to find in-bounds in America is going to be glades. I would much prefer the Hometown Hero to the Sensei if you're looking for a pow board for most American resort riding. If you're doing big mountain back country in bottomless pow, then go nuts with the Sensei.

I have the 164 & am liking it. Too bad the reviewer didn't get any sustained steep/deep turn rhythm because this board is a total dolphin! By far the squirtiest board out of turns I've ridden. That tail channel seems to cause this. The nose goes "through" deep pow as opposed to riding "on" it like my other pow shapes. Feels better & more poetic in pow after I moved bindings back about 3/8" from REF's. How to wax 3d: Rub wax bar over entire (room temp) base, carefully iron just enough to melt, use green scrubby scotch pad to rub off excess wax.

Kevin (and even fellow riders), I'm in the market for a new snowboard and am currently overwhelmed with the amount of options!! I've been ripping a burton custom (2018 camber) for the last several seasons and want something more forgiving in the trees . I just find it damn near impossible to shed speed and having a bigger foot forces me to hop into a mid wide 156. I'd love to hop on something that's short/nimble that will allow me to navigate easier and turn on demand when needed. The two board's I've been eyeing are: 1) the orca and 2) the Burton Family Tree 3D Deep Days. Do you find that one of these boards are more nimble or easier to cut speed than the other - based on your experience riding both. Hell i'll take any recommendations for boards that y'all have found to be fun ripping through glades. I'm just tired of struggling through trees with the board I have right now. Seems to me that rocker dominant boards are the way to go for what I demand. ps... sorry for the short novel lmao. Would greatly appreciate ANYONE'S input.

I tested Bataleon and its not for me - its not black and white, its when you change geometry, some paramentres are better and some are worse. With 3D shape you loose a little bit of control (you need to have lower angle to turn because edges are a little bit up) but you will not have problems when buttering etc. At powder - can be nice (I tested just the slopes). It was the same with camber/rocker (and I use them both, fun board and long agressive 169cm camber for carving). I dont like the feeling at the slopes (speaking about bataleon) because of carving. As a fun board, why not. So its not that everybody will use it, its another category added to the quiver :)

Bataleon is the OG 3D board company, annoying to see a big brand like Burton claiming it as their own and gentrifying it. 3BT for life

@@slade8759 When did Burton claim 3D as their own? Also, Bataleon doesn't do 3D shaping in the same way... they only lift the edges, this is actually a powder/hydrodynamic 3D shape. not that Bataleon's is bad, just that this is something slightly different.
