Kudos to you David Stanton! I bet I’ve watched 20+ videos on dust extractors trying to figure out what, which and why I would pick one over the other. I’ve got it down to the CT 26 and a different system with fewer features with higher CFM. None of the Festool vids have done more than say “it can do”, which is different than your “I like that it can do” with the reason why you value that feature. Even though this commentary is 4 years old it has been very helpful for me. This type of tool is costly($800 for CT 26 w/no accessories in March 2023) - buying the wrong product has significant consequences! Thanks much for your insight!

I just bought the Ct Midi and optional Bluetooth remote (the Ct has the builtin Bluetooth receiver)... the biggest advantage and reason I got it was to use it with a (manual) hand block sander as I do drywall and cabinet refinishing. Not having to reach down to turn on/off the vacuum is a huge win for me.

Thanks Dave. After watching this video a few weeks ago, I bought a CT-26 from Lee Valley Tools in Laval (across the river from Montreal) today. I also came back to this video now to get a tutorial because while Festool has made a great dust extractor, the instruction manual is mediocre at best: it takes a while to figure out which illustration belongs to which paragraph, a dog's breakfast if ever there was one. Your video was a great help in deciding which dust extractor to choose, and also in how to use it.

Your video has definitely made my decision easier. I know people always complain about how these are expensive, but as they say. “Cheap things are not good and good things are not cheap.” It’s clear a lot f time and serious thought, Technology was placed into these units and I’d say they’re clearly worth every penny,IMO.😊👍🏾

I bought one because I am remodeling and have issues with dust. My CT36 collects 99.97% of everything down to .3 micron. Dust collection is the same reason for having Festool tools too. I have the handle for my machine and the cleaning wand. In the shop they are both handy. That handy is really beefy too so it adds a bit of weight. But that is handy when you add a boom arm to the unit.

Wattage question : since this entire pull is 10 amps maximum in Australia , how can more than 1200 watts be piggybacked through the CT sync-outlet . The OF-2200 would present 3400 watts with the CT . Even the Kapex 120 at 1600 watts is too much ? Soft start has nothing to do with maximums . I notice that bluetooth vacuum start is being pushed nowadays , and secondary supply source used instead ..........
@DavidStanton
@DavidStanton Жыл бұрын
The wiring in the dusty is strong enough to handle it. A 10 amp circuit is actually 4800 watts in total. It works like this. Say I have a 10 amp appliance like a kettle that pulls maybe 2400 watts. You would think that is all the circuit could handle. But there are still ore outlets on that circuit that other appliances can run off. the reasoning is 6 appliances that halve the power draw of the previous larger draw. 2400 watts, 1200 watts, 600 watts, 300 watts, 150 watts, 75 watts. total of 4,725 watts. Not all the appliances will pull the same load and if they do, the circuit breaker will kill the circuit. I hope this helps.
@npet6842
@npet6842 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the time to reply . My thinking is that this is all being pulled through the vacuum cleaner's cable when piggybacked through the auxil socket . Is this not the reason the Importer is now giving away Bluetooth connectors so that the power tool can be connected to the wall socket it's self ? @@DavidStanton

Nice review. If you have time, please help me with this. If I'm getting the Powermatic PM2200 Dust Collection unit for those tools, and I want to use Festool for the hand tools, would I be able to 'cleanly' connect the hand tools to the Powermatic unit? Or would I still have to purchase a Festool vacuum? Hoping that's possible because it seems like a double purchase to have to buy both. Thanks in advance.

David, quick question. If you connect the battery will it disconnect the remote?
@DavidStanton
@DavidStanton 6 жыл бұрын
From my experience the switch that connects to the dust hose is the main control of the bluetooth unit on the CT-26. It will over rule the bluetooth battery. If I am using a saw or drill with the bluetooth and I turn the CT-26 off with the dust hose switch it will unpair the bluetooth battery from the receiver.

That thing is insanely expensive for a shop vac. My rigid shop vac has a higher CFM and costs a small fraction of the price. I bought an i-socket Autoswitch so I can turn on my vac (or any other vac I choose to use) with the tool and I have a strip of copper wire run along the hose to prevent static buildup. As far as attaching toolboxes to the top, why? My shop vac sits in the corner and the hose is long enough to reach the entire area of my shop. As far as that big Klunky arm to support the hose? I have a few small hooks attached over my work bench and table saw that I attach a bungee cord to and use that to keep the hose out of my way when needed. Seeing that bluetooth switch on the hose of something that is designed to be right next to you the entire time, just game he a headache. The amount of time it took you just to set up the bluetooth on that cordless saw was much longer than it would have taken you just to reach down and turn it on and off a few times. For the price of this one unit (not counting all the little addons that you pictured) I could buy 3 or 4 of my entire shop vac systems including the extra hoses, Autoswitch and wire for the anti-static setup. For the price of this one unit I can get a decent full sized shop dust collection system that pulls 600 cfm. For about $300 more I can get a very nice Laguna dust collection system that has 1314CFM and a 6 inch port and has a 4 inch hose and has a built in dust separator. There is just no circumstance where I can see any reasons that justifies this much money on a shop vac. It's ridiculous.

You forgot to add that the shopvac is also twice as loud, makes 10 times more mess when emptying it. It also it also clogs its filter up nice and quick as soon as you actually use it so you don't have to deal with all that extra cfm that's written on the box and it will do a nice job of pumping fine dust back into the air that you are breathing while working.
@bighands69
@bighands69 5 жыл бұрын
+MAGA MAN It is justified if you are using festool as a system such as having several festool tools that for example can be used in one table such as the CMS. The hose will easily fit all festool tools which cannot be said for many brands. The Vacuum can also integrate with systainers. If you are buying festool tools you are more than likely doing so from a dealer so it means if anything goes wrong you can have them repaired which is not the same for many tools out there. If you have several tools it can be difficult trying to get repairs and services for them.
