At 20 years old, high on MDA and dancing at the gay clubs to this back then I truly felt this track was a "gift" to me and my friends from my friend who had died(murdered) earlier in the 1984...his favorite movie at the time of his death was "Poltergeist" and when i listened to this track at home with head phones on I clearly heard the P-geist samples and the hair on my neck just stood up. Thanks Jeff H!! There are also samples from some scenes from the movie, "The Birds."

Arcadia brought his work to my attention. I bought the Will Powers album and this album both on cassette and loved them! The 80s were a fun time for experiment... I was and still am into Laurie Anderson, Shriekback and Brian Eno!

What is Arcadia?
@Aramanth6 ай бұрын
@@sirvidia In 1985, Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes & Roger Taylor formed a Duran Duran side project called Arcadia. The music was more artful and experimental and featured such musicians as David Van Tiegham, Marc Egan, Herbie Hancock, Grace Jones and Sting. Their only album is _So Red the Rose_ and I highly recommend it!

LOVE this track. It took me ages to figure out that some of the samples came from "The Birds", but the "Poltergeist" stuff was so powerful... I was obsessed!!!

Sample ID: "Mommy, Mommy, I can't see you mommy, where are you" comes from Poltergeist. But does anyone know where the "Look...Look" comes from? I seem to recall watching an old (british?) black & white movie that ended with a little girl looking out a window where rain was streaming down the pane & it looked like tears rolling down her face & she said "Look, ? I'm crying". I could have sworn it was the same voice.....I always wanted to watch the whole movie, but forget to id the title, anyone?

No. Michael Mantler: Live was the best album of the '80's. But this ain't shabby by any means.

I bought this LP & 12" after hearing it in a gay club too & then was blown away when VH-1 started playing the video (along with other more experimental music videos). The LP (and Laurie Anderson's United States box set) were rather thin & a poor quality pressings (the pops & crackle overshadowed the music). This album (along with Eno's My Life In The bush Of Ghosts) presaged the UK dance & sampling craze of the 90s & really needs to be remastered & issued on CD/SACD!

He tries too hard to be avant-garde in this video.
@DRRwine8 жыл бұрын
I think the entanglement is exactly what the frenetic mood is trying to express... listen again, and with special attention to how the mood changes at the end... he's spot effing on. Not "trying" at all. It's real art and real good.

I've seen it several times since the 80s. I think his acting is too obvious.

It’s is, of course, a pastiche. It’s a camp imitation of avant-garde. And therefore becomes avant-garde in itself. It’s as post modern as Talking Heads.
