I just showed this to my son [this is the year he might start band instruction] as an example of how I understand percussion and percussiveness. I watched it on MTV or some other channel back in '82-'83 and was forever fascinated.

I've listened to your music in what I guess I'd call my most personal moments alone with my thoughts and feelings. When I saw this reply from you tonight, it felt surreal. ' Strange Cargo' in particular is an album I've listened to countless thousands of times, it's one of those works I count as a perfect match for the way my soul works. How odd for you to be the one to say "Thank you" to me, when it is you who gave that music to me. I've worked in movies and TV and I've met a lot of famous people but this little note from you is so exciting because...well, you're David VanTieghem... that's another level up. The music we bond with in a personal way is magic and those who create it are magical beings. Never in a million years did I ever expect to read something you wrote to me, Thank You.

This makes me so happy. I was entranced by DVT playing with Laurie Anderson and played These Things Happen and Safety in Numbers every day for months. You're an amazing talent. Thanks for posting this stuff!

What a fantastic musician! I knew with L.O.L.O. when I bought "Casino", released in Italy in 1982 by Expanded Music.

Late Night with David Letterman got away with a lot of stuff I would normally have expected to get censored. The vibrators here, a joke about shrunken heads where Will Lee said something the audience couldn't hear but Dave repeated "The feeling from the band is we'd all like a little head," Robin Williams doing a Señor Wences impression and having his hand say "Do I have to swallow?" and Joe Cocker being the musical guest and Dave saying, "Cocker? I hardly even know her."
