Just that the visuals and animations bothered me. But you did give similar complaints then so I was always curious. Since then, I have played it and...yeah. Nearly every point across the board I'm aligning with you. Even worse, I played the Vita version, which probably has some of the worst framerate issues during combat I have ever experienced in a video game. I was almost ready to give the game a pass despite all the issues until I was literally playing in 5 frames, or less, a second...repeatedly. I was doing combos out of muscle memory cause I could not make out what was even happening on screen half the time. How I managed to push myself to finish the game regardless, I don't know.

This is definitely a great video that offers so many great perspectives from JRPG gamers / creators. I’m in the same boat with Lady Pelvic when it comes to FFXII, as it’s one of the weaker games I’ve played from the mainline FF series from a character standpoint. As for my own regret as an RPG / JRPG gamer, it comes courtesy of getting a little too hyped over Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Caliber. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a pretty deep game for an n64 release and one of the very few RPGs on the system. That said, the movement speed of the units made the game such a bore to me and the fatigue system only weighed everything down further. I’m a retro gamer at my core and I had played the wonderful Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen beforehand and was happy to see that it got a non Tactics Ogre follow up, only for the hype to go out the window after seeing the muddy n64 graphics and getting tired from the slower pacing. I honestly wish Person of Lordly Caliber would get a remaster / remake, cuz I believe if the graphics were improved and the speed and fatigue systems were tweaked that I would give it a better examination thru reappraisal. Until then, getting too overhyped for it remains my biggest regret as an RPG gamer, especially after playing the grueling beauty that is March of the Black Queen.

I'm sure I've mentioned it before in the comments, but my big regret is pre-ordering Sonic Chronicles on DS. I love Sonic, and at the time Bioware was a very well-regarded RPG developer. In my mind, this was gonna do for Sonic what Mario RPG did for the famous plumber. It even scored 8~9/10 in most magazines! But what I got was a janky mess that felt like an unfinished beta. Also, I remember almost buying White Night Chronicles back then. My mom chimed in and recommended I put the money down to pre-order a game I had been wanting to get instead, so I listened to her. Glad I did, can't beat mother's intuition xD

I've got one for you: The Longest Five Minutes. The premise is that you and your party start off fighting the final boss, but in the last five minutes of the battle, your character is hit with amnesia. The rest of your party is trying to help you remember who you are. You play the game in flashbacks so you can remember certain moves and whatnot. I thought that this was such a neat idea, especially thinking that maybe you would create your own unique hero with the choices you make. Nope. It's mostly a visual novel with lackluster visuals. Buying equipment doesn't matter. Fights don't matter (you even get a move to allow you to repel monsters so you can quickly get through dungeons), and the only fight that had even a bit of strategy was the final boss, but that was after suffering through a story I really did not care for. It wasn't that expensive, at least.

I liked Chrono Cross, but it's the best example of how more isn't always better. Way too many characters, most of whom aren't very well developed at all, and some of the best characters are hidden behind plot walls that you'll never see if you're actually role playing a hero. And then there's the baffling plot and confusing connections to the previous game. There are a lot of good ideas in this game, but it really loses itself in the execution.
@marcosdheleno Жыл бұрын
i never got the complaint about too many characters. i always saw the game as kind of there's no hero, everyone can step up and do it, and while majority is there just to fill seats, enough characters do get developed to make that complaint moot. as for the execution again, its an experimental square enix jrpg, far from being the first or last.

2:45 - Unlimited SaGa's biggest problem is that it basically forces you to rely almost entirely on RNG. There's little to no strategy involved, and any guide for it is useless or worse, because no two situations are going to be the same at any point in the story. And it goes against everything that is the basis for the SaGa series.

I completely missed growing up with that system and just held out w/ the 64 hoping they'd get around to cranking them out. I’m playing this game right now for the first time and I gotta say that I am not having this issue. Yes it’s tough in spots and early on you do need to level up a bit before proceeding through each new area, but I haven’t yet felt like I made the wrong decision. And I actually like that throughout the game there are sections that are better suited for certain classes because it requires a bit of problem solving instead of just lazily steamrolling your way through like in almost every other RPG where you can just get OP. At worst you come to a boss and you’ve got to swap up your classes a bit and grind for like a half hour before proceeding, then you can swap back if you want.
@redstratus97 Жыл бұрын
@@resellingwithjon the grinding was waaaaay more then 30 mins. Waaaay more. It’s also possible you made better decisions then I did. My progress came to a screeching halt 10 hours in. That being said, I do wonder if the Pixel remaster may have fixed this issue or made it not as bad compared to the original and DS version? I wonder.

I think I dropped around the 50 hours, and from the guide I think there were at least 15 more to see the credits, maybe one day I look for some youtube videos to at least how it ends, because no way I'll be playing again lol

I really liked the diversity of reviews in this this videos. Have same opinion on almost every game, at least the ones I’ve played.

First of all thank you everyone for the collab video. I just love seeing familiar faces interacting with each other and learning about new ones in the process

Some of those are games with stories that inspired me to write. I know these are your opinions and I respect them. I just felt weird watching this and saying to myself "what was wrong with that game?" But to each their own and I love hearing people talking about games

First game regret that popped into my head? Star Ocean, the third one. The twist at the end was so bad, it didn't *just* ruin everything I'd done in the game. It managed to ruin everything I'd done in Star Ocean: The Second Story (a game I loved).

Same Brandon. Such a sour surprise.

I loved the twist and I love that people hate it because its a plot twist that literally gave a portion of the audience an existential crisis. From a philosophical point of view it's brilliant, especially because the audience had such a big investment into the world beforehand.

Chrono Cross is absolutely amazing. Not nearly as good as Chrono Trigger of course (few games are) but still a great game. The story surrounding Kid, the continuation of the lives of Crono, Lucca, and Marle is very nice. The side stories are entertaining, deep, and varied. The combat mechanics are cool, simple, and rewarding. The soundtrack is LEGENDARY. Ultimately, the game's story is an emotional rollercoaster; I laughed, I cried, I smiled, I was mad as hell, and not necessarily in that order, lol. It was a very compelling story. The only criticism of the game I have is the inability to control the camera: a result of how the developers set up the maps, as well as the data storage limitations of the discs themselves.

This was awesome!!! I’m a big fan of Davidvinc’s channel and all the others that contributed. My JRPG regret? “Time and Eternity”, I was looking forward to it pre-release because of it’s 2D Hand-Drawn animation. The story seemed interesting in synopsis. It was so bad that when I brought my PS3 in for a repair & forgot the disc was inside, and when I got the PS3 back and the game disc was not with it, I didn’t mind in the slightest…

Chrono Cross is boring. The combat system is lame and hardly works as intended. It's also clunky and ugly. Damn game runs at like 2 FPS

Same here but I only hated the 3 .hack GU games NOT infection to quarantine but since Quarantine still costs MORE then a PS5 those 4 .hack games really NEED A PS4 PS5 Switch port its 20th year anniversary for those 4 .hack games was LAST year but the games still never left the PS2 Era YET.

Every Final Fantasy after 10 was basically a waste of time. The soul of the game has been gone and has become the standard money grab.

LETS GO! So many people rave about how they love FF12 I HATED 12. I've tried several times and never been able to bring myself to beat it. I genuinely don't see what positives anyone can see in the game.

Watching this and hearing Tark talk on Akiba's Beat with my exact issues with that game. I couldn't agree more with him but in my mind I think it has its little charms here and there. Was actually considering reviewing the game since I finished it last year. But great video!

FF 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 for the PS1 was mine. At the time I didnt know that the FF games would be remade on every system available in a few years + the impression I had was that there would be 3D cutscenes scattered throughout the game. Not just 1 before the game starts.

This was a fun video! So glad someone mentioned Beyond the Beyond. That tops my list of gaming regrets too. Stupid me, back in 1996 I chose Beyond the Beyond over Suikoden I based on the box art, doh! As a kid with no money, and the nearest decent gaming store was 100km away, I was stuck with it.
