The Aussie 3800 v6 we use to race with has a factory tunnel ram style intake manifold. Makes excellent mid range torque. With so much valley room in that manifold I am surprised the designers didn't just move the runners apart a bit just in the plenum area.

I put a tunnel ram on my stock 67 440 RB engine that had 915 closed chambered heads and I used 2 - 750 cfm Carter AFB 3705 max wedge carburetors that were tuned to my cross ram and it ran and idled without any adjustment....I was amazed....but after running it for about an hour I pulled the plugs and found #8 rich and #5 lean....no big deal cause I wasn't keeping them on there I put a set of 600 Holly's on it they are much easier to stagger jet in My opinion plus I wasn't messing with Maxie carbs ....so my point being is that a cross ram n a tunnel ram are somewhat the same 1 is vertical and the other horizontal but they are miles apart when tuning one or the other

Hi David. So glad to see you talking about firing sequences. Being primarily a Ford Cleveland, and later 5.0 injected motor builder, I have always struggled with the Ford 1-3 firing order that hits the front part of the plenum 3 times in a row. In my opinion, there are a lot of Ford intake manifolds that work, but not many that are anywhere near optimal. Regards Greg

Thank you for sharing your wisdom. Assuming the principles will work the same on any engine. My application is a Windsor Ford and not aware of something similar to the 4 - 7 swap.
@davidreed60702 жыл бұрын
Doesn't the Windsor already have the 4,7, swap. The 4,7,swap is with how gm numbers it's cylinders. With Ford wouldn't it be a 2, 8 swap.
@theshed88022 жыл бұрын
Ford ran 2 different firing orders on Windsor's. The 1-5 order and the 1-3 order. Apparently Ford went to the 1-3 firing order to stop the front main web in the block breaking. All Cleveland's and high performance Windsor's ran the 1-3 firing order. Unfortunately it means that the front plenum gets hit 3 time consecutively by induction pulses.

Also I have a 2000 SLK with a 230 Supercharged motor in it, any help on making these run cooler and more economical would help, it would not hurt for them to have more HorsePower either. I am not a mechanic, but looking at your clips you appear to be the GOD of engines, you certainly do good work. Running water to cool the engine down and increasing octane is amazing, can that be done with the above Mercedes motors?

Mr. Vizard I am studying intake wave pulse tuning for some time and keep hitting a wall with the formula. There seems to be a debate on the Ramchargers constant (K) (72) or according to phillip Smith (90). L=[(K) x C ÷ N +-3. Both formulas give a broad range of intake runner lengths, which do you use do calculate optimal intake runner length?

What if you ran two 450 or 600 carbs, without progressive linkage or secondaries, and had one barrel per port ? hi Mr David i really would love to know what are you toughts about spark plugs reading/chops. many things are said about spark plug colour like brown is good and whithe is lean, many say that with today fuel (10% ethanol, no lead) is difficult to achive a brown colour and if is brown most probably is because of a rich mixture. Can you please give your opinion in this subject? Im just trying to maintain my old carbureted motorcycle in good shape,, an old Yamaha XJ600 with 4 Mikuni carburetos, I know your videos are more for car guys but i believe many concepts can be applied in 4t motorcycles. I would like you to cover fuel injection and water injection as well. I am surprised that there is still people using carburators. Also, why there is no use of variable timming camshaft. It seem you thrive when you are limited by rules and have to optimise according to that but looking at what is possible outside that would be nice. Thanks.
