I just got accepted to AGACNP school. I’ve been trying to decide if I hold off on that and just pursue CRNA because it’s always been a dream of mind. I’m 25 and I’ve always known I would continue to excel in my nursing career. After watching a few of your videos I decided to go to NP school first and then go to CRNA after a few years as a intensivist. Thank you so much for all of the great advice and insight!!

I am looking to start a PMHNP program and then CRNA program. I take the view of working with, one on one critically ill patients in the OR and then taking a break from that and treat mentally ill patient’s, and then writing about my experiences or vlogging them. Its gonna be an awesome journey. So happy for you and everything you’ve accomplished and stand for. Keep it going!

Hey David, awesome vid. I actually at one point wanted to get credentials in both AGACNP and CRNA but I didn't think it was possible also would take way to much time to do both. Also, my path has changed because I've decided to pursue PA following my nursing school journey. However, I'm glad that you proved me wrong. I would totally do both because I feel like you're able to treat the patient full circle. Establishing a connection with your patient on an even more deeper level. Best of luck to you David. I look forward to seeing you thrive following you passing your CRNA boards.

Hey Dorian! Thanks for your comment. And excellent choice on the PA route. Honestly, if I had it to do over again, and I didn't;'t want to do anesthesia, I would go the PA route. I think you are making an excellent choice and you won't regret it! Congrats and goodluck.

Thanks for the video, David! Currently working as an ICU NP with goals of CRNA in the next couple of years. Good to know there’s programs that focus on both ACNP & CRNA as a combined pathway. I’m hoping to use the anesthesia degree for traveling, specifically medical missions, but know with age I’ll want to settle down and have the opportunity to slow down & educate the next generation. Keep up the encouraging content!

Thanks for making this informative video, I am also a ACNP & 1st year SRNA. I was considering becoming a CRNA intensivist, but was unaware of the other opportunities that you explained. Now that I reflect all the faculty at my institution are dual CRNA/NP that run pre-op clinics lol. This was really helpful and nice to see others who have chosen a similar path (although I do not recommend it unless you have a passion for both fields).

Thank you for this video, very inspirational! I am currently a lab technologist and work at level 1 trauma/burn center in blood bank and got introduced to the CRNA profession. Luckily, my hospital is partnered with a university that gives me the opportunity to get my bachelor’s in nursing through an accelerated program and that they are taking any science degree. I always thought MD was the way and wanted to be an anesthesiologist but now nursing has caught my eye and I want to advance my degree that involves patient care. I’m nervous to be starting a new career as a new rn and have long term goals as I’ve been a lab tech for awhile but this video inspired me that we can always evolve! I wish you luck on your future endeavors and sorry for the long post. 😅

Great video. I’m currently torn on the path to take. I’m currently a travel nurse but ideally was looking to become a CRNA. The issue is I would have to stop traveling in order to get ICU experience. So I’d be taking a pretty significant pay cut initially, then after getting into a program I’d have to work little to not at all, which is tough with a family. Getting my NP first, then critical care experience, then a bridge to CRNA seems like a pretty awesome route. Do you know which program in NY does that combined program?

Okay, I’m an ACNPC-AG, this is just the content I’ve been looking for. I’m super motivated to apply to CRNA school. Did you ever feel out of place? I’m 33- I know many SRNA’s are in their 20s. Also, during the first year we’re you able to work? Part time? I have a very chill NP job lined up doing house calls, I’m aiming to be in school in 2024 and hoping to go PRN when I do CRNA school (if possible to work)
@DavidWarrenNP
@DavidWarrenNP Жыл бұрын
Hey Cristina! Thanks for watching! I initially felt out of place, as I haven't been a true bedside nurse in ~8 or so years. However, that quickly faded. Anesthesia is a very different field, and honestly, no amount of experience can prepare you for what is ahead. I did not work during the program at all- I worked on my breaks in between quarters. There's just no feasible way I could have worked. I thought the same thing as everyone going in- Oh I can work etc. Truly you cannot.

Great Video! I just got expected in nursing school and I have dreams of going to CRNA school. I had a question on your comment about how you always wanted to be in a provider role. What were some reasons for going to nursing school vs med school? When you were explaining the reasoning why you wanted to be an NP, it reminded me of how some MDs talk about their decision to go to med school. Genuinely curious, I understand both have a critical role in the healthcare model. Thank you!

CRNA here. I will say I know metabolism pathways and what receptors drugs work on, but honestly can’t remember the cyclic amp, gmp etc anymore. Fortunately, that depth of knowledge isn’t really too relevant in actual practice. I always ask the students about those 😆

Hi David! Thank for your video. Very helpful for me. I am currently an outpatient cardiology NP, 9 yrs ICU nurse in the past. I am wondering if there is a CRNA school that accepts if you don’t have recent ICU experience since I am out of bedside for 7 yrs. Did you go back to ICU before applying to be an SRNA? Thank you so much.
@DavidWarrenNP
@DavidWarrenNP 6 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for watching! Most programs require "recent" ICU experience- usually within the last 2-5 years. I did not go back to the bedside before applying- my program counted my emergency medicine experience. I wouldn't suggest this route tho- very few programs will take it.

Hey David! I am a DNP prepared FNP. I am also considering going back to get ICU experience and after a year of that, applying to CRNA school. I have found only 2 post DNP certificate programs Barry University and South College. Do you know of any others? I was told by a DNP program in my state that they would not consider me for their CRNA DNP program because I already have a DNP and that I need to look for a post DNP program. Loved the video BTW!
@DavidWarrenNP
@DavidWarrenNP 3 ай бұрын
I would look at DNAP programs. DNAP is a terminal degree in anesthesia and eliminates the non essential nurse courses that APPs don’t need. Instead, the DNAP courses are things like business of anesthesia, advocacy, and anesthesia contracts for your own group etc.

@DavidWarrenNP
@DavidWarrenNP Жыл бұрын
It depends on how much you would have saved. However, CRNAs typically make 200-300k per year. Even if you do take student loans, over a career, the long term pay off is literally a no brainer.
@kyledeitz2760
@kyledeitz2760 2 ай бұрын
Honestly it depends on where you go to school. I got out with 80,000 in student loans. To be transparent, I’ll make 360,000 this year so don’t wait bc of the student debt. It’s an amazing investment and opportunity for a great life. With inflation, the pay has gone up drastically within the past 2 years. Most importantly, it’s a pretty cool gig where I enjoy going to work.

I did not go back to the bedside as a RN. My critical care NP experience was sufficient. However, it was also limiting. Most schools want dedicated ICU RN experience. Since my experience did not fit that mold, it was significantly more challenging.
