I thought a piccolo was a type of flute?? What are 'picolo' strings anyway?

Hi Jank, and thank you for writing. I know I've heard of the piccolo flute and it may indicate that it is a higher pitch than other flutes, not sure about that, just my guess. Here's a simple explanation I found online: A piccolo bass is either an electric bass or acoustic double bass which has been tuned to a higher frequency, usually one octave higher than conventional bass tuning. This allows bass players to use higher registers during soloing while retaining a familiar scale length and string spacing. While its an octave higher than a conventional bass guitar, I believe its still a lower pitch than a guitar. You should watch a few more of my piccolo bass series videos, it gets a little deeper.

@@studioxmusic so couldn't you just use regular strings for that 'piccolo' application? why do you need special strings?

@@-jank-willson Hey Jank, regular strings are just too deep a tone to get that guitar like sound. Its really not a big deal to replace your regular strings with piccolos. Sometimes you may need to adjust your neck due to less tension on it but often times your bass will not need any adjustments. You can also switch back to your regular strings if yer not diggin' it. Piccolo strings can be purchased fairly cheap online through several string specialty sites. I'll try my best to recall a couple that probably have them: www.stringsonline.com & www.juststrings.com thanks!

@@studioxmusic couldn't you just use regular guitar strings instead of these specialty strings? Aren't they essentially the same thing, just a little longer for the longer scale length?

@@-jank-willson I would guess that a guitar string will be the wrong scale length, also, for us bassists, we are used to playing our instrument and many of us feel more comfortable with that scale and thicker strings.
