Great video. I'm going to face the same process soon with exactly the same gear setting. Isn't there any chance to fit all, including the battery (naked). I would like to avoid carving on the original wood. Thanks!

@studioxmusic 13 сағат бұрын
Hey Al, thx for the comment. I would have to say that there is probably not enough room to fit a battery in the tight compartment if you are installing this in the same bass or most likely any Fender or Squire jazz style bass. It is a little harrowing cutting into the bass and its can be easy to make mistakes. I would suggest that if you are not comfortable with the procedure then have a guitar tech who has done this kind of work either do the whole install or at least just the routing. I found the wiring to be quite simple, EMG made it easy with the simple diagrams and helped every step of the way via email. Good luck, I'd love to hear how you make out and if I can be of help, let me know!

Hey Teodor, thx for the note! I really dig my Phil Jones cab, it does have a great sound. I'm not familiar with the Ibanez SR505 but if it has the MK1 pickups, its probably an older one very similar to my SR700 which also has the MK1's, these are fantastic pickups, way better than the Bartolini licensed pickups they use in their newer basses. Sounds like you have an outstanding rig now. I've never tried the Darkglass amps or cabs but I am also a Darkglass fan, I have 2 of their overdrive pedals.

Hey James, Thx for the message. I was thinking about doing another video using that same bass because when I did it, I used the same used strings to keep everything sounding as close to the first video as possible but I have since put on new strings and I think it sounds even better so keep yer eyes out and when I get a little time I will most likely do some more playing on that bass.

Hey JLP. thx for the comment. I have used mine outside and it sounded fine, in fact a jazz guy was there to watch the rock cover band I was playing in at the time and he was so impressed with the sound that he decided to go out and get one for himself but with that being said, I never have used it on a truly big stage where I had some distance from the drummer and apparently you have so I could see where it might get lost. You said you have a 27 cab, was that supposed to be C7? If thats correct plz let me know how you like that, also, I'm guessing by the grey in your beard and the 59 in your address, we're the same age. Take care brother and keep on rockin'!

Very cool, thank you! Do you have recommendations for the settings of the horn/tweeter?
@studioxmusic
@studioxmusic Ай бұрын
Yes, I definitely have simple preferences on that. Most cabinets have either an attenuator where you can dial in a specific amount of high end or they have preset levels such as full on, medium range and off. I always choose a medium setting. If I leave it off then it can be kind of a dead tone with little high end, if you choose full on the tone can be a little too brittle or sonically abrasive to the ears. With a mid setting you can get some nice snap to your tone without the abrasiveness. Hope this helps, happy jamming!

Hey Mike, sorry it took a while to get back with you but I've had other people ask me the same question and to be honest with you, I'm not a guitar player. I have trouble holding chords, its painful on my hands to try and bend my fingers and play a chord. Now with 4 strings and piccolo strings, its a little easier. I'm currently working with a 5 string piccolo which so far, isn't too bad. I guess if I keep working it, I could just play a guitar but here's another thing, there are already many, many great guitar players, I'll never catch up with them. But as a bassist, I'm sailing through uncharted territory in many cases. Alot of other bassists are realizing what they can do on the bass without having to bring in guitarists, they can record entire songs without any help. Thanks for writing!

Yes , I can play a Jamerson groove, studied his playing a bit and sometimes use that style with jamming. I previously used strictly finger style. Hey! Thats actually a carpet that one of my buddies gave me for Christmas last year! I ran out of floor space for it so I decided to use it as a backdrop for a few videos. As far as the bass, I'm really quite impressed with the quality of it although I've only briefly played a handful of 5 strings so with that being said, I would say that the low notes are very smooth and with no buzzing, it was set up like I have it right from the factory. @studioxmusic
@studioxmusic 6 ай бұрын
Hey LoZOne, Yer name is just too cool for words, love it, wish I thought of it. To answer your question, I'd say it handles low and smooth just fine. I've been playing bass (just bass) for 45 years and I've always been a stickler for tone and if a cabinet could not go up loud enough for some of the hard rockin' bands that I've played with, I wouldn't be interested in keeping it around. As far as this particular cabinet, it sounds good on its own and can push a good amount of low end but I prefer to hook it up with my 4-10 cab, then it really kills, great tone and nice fat lows. Hey Peewee, thx for the comment and excellent question! The answer is yes but keep in mind that alot of the tones and function control set ups of different bass amps are personal preference, so what works the best for me may not be the same for the next player. I've used Genzler amps for many years now, I've tried their newer amps briefly in a music store but I always liked the simple layout of the Genz Benz Shuttle series heads and combos better. I like an amp with a basic design where I can quickly dial in my sound. I don't want to be twiddlin' knobs tryin' to get my tone right especially while I'm on stage. Alot of players swear by the Tone Hammers but just not my favorite. Thx again!

I use this cab with a C4 on top, so all in all 12 5" speakers powered by the PJB PB-800 amp, and I love it! I had the Ampeq "fridge" before, but wanted a bass rig, that was easier to transport and less "coloring" the sound. The PJB setup I have now is the most "honest" setup I´ve ever used. It reproduces the sound of the bass most accurate of all setups I´ve tried. Sure, the Ampeg setup produced the well known Ampeg boom and growl, but I can mimic that with my pedal board (Helix LT) and the PJB setup actually goes deeper (and cleaner) than the Ampeg. The SVT810 cabinet went down to around 40 Hz where the PJB C4 can reproduce 30Hz and the C8 all down to 25Hz, wich is in the "earthquake" zone...and I love it! The first time I turned it on, volume on half and made a run down to the low B, dust was falling from the cieling of our rehearsal studio....so much punch!

Hey Drew, Thats actually a good idea but I'm not doing any live gigs right now so its not currently an issue. Is the C4's what you own? I do like the fact that I can roll this one around pretty easy and do most any small to medium size clubs with this one cab. It does sound even better with my 4-10 cab which is lightweight. I like the high end snap the PJB adds to my tone. I guess if I was using 2 C4's that would bump my power output up as well, certainly something to think about. I also was considering the PJB cab with 6 - 7" speakers, forget the model #, maybe C6? Good talkin', thx!
