Thanks Davie, I am awaiting the new tubes over here in Norway and will be knocking out these are other FnS variants for the new year. Your instructions and techniques are really easy to follow and it is always great to watch a pro at work. FYI...I have fished with Sean's FnS patterns now for 2 full seasons and I have never owned a fly that triggers so many different fish in different parts of the globe. Thnx Sean. .....Atlantics in Norway, Kings and Chums in Alaska and Steelhead in both USA and Canada. The Black and yellow, the black and blue and the black and red have been my most successful, but that has mostly been in clear water. This red devil will get a bashing in mid Jan when I fish winter steelhead on coastal rivers on the Queen Charlotte Islands, where one of the river is called Copper....for obvious reasons. Keep up the good work.

Hi Nic Jepson, It's great to hear how well this style of fly has worked for you and like many that read of your success in using this pattern will encourage them to have a go.. I wish you well and if you don't mind I would love to hear how you get on with the red devil version... All the very best Davie

Hi again Davie, well I tied up a few Red devil variants and tried them fishing for winter steelhead over the last couple of weeks. Well what did you expect? Of course they attracted CHROMERS. An example....One day I fished a juicy intimate pool with a more traditional steelhead fly. Water temp about 3 degs. The guide noticed a silver chromer following the fly. I tried 2 more swings and got a couple of twitchers. So back up 10 yards and pull out the lethal weapon. 5 casts and fish on. But this was not the same fish. Fought it but broke the friggin leader when trying to horse the fish in the very fast current when landing the fish. OK guide, I need my fly box from the pick up. I need another Red Devil variant...known in BC as the Red Admiral. :-) Now the other guide appeared, maybe expecting a show. Well he got it. I had one of those feelings and told them both that there was another taker in that pool. Well after 10 casts I was now 10 yards below where I had contact before and this CC = Crazy Chromer sucked in the fly. All hell broke loose. In the next 10 minutes I lost complete contact with the fish twice, once with the fish right under my legs. Then the guide had to wade out and get the leader released TWICE round submerged snags. He had the fish with 2 yards on the surface, but the fish had other ideas and made a final charge to the tail of the pool and came off. That Chromer SHREDDED the pool. Bottom line. This fly should come with a health warning. Instruction for use. Tie on leader, cast it out ...and hold on like ####

Hi Davie, what a nice coincidence, last week I received some of the Sean Stanton Tubes for tying his Franc'N Snaelda - and now I have the best instruction I can imagine. Thanks a lot for your gorgeous video. Allow me one general question about the feelers: do you see a functional difference between feelers made from stripped hackles and boar bristles? All the best Jan

Hi Earl, I'm glad you liked the fly, it is a very popular style and does take a lot of fish in many countries..I would certainly tye some on plastic as i do like them on this myself. I'm fishing next year in Canada so I will be tying some for this... All the very best Davie

Andrey Rudkov Hello Davie, just wanted to share a finding. I have been thinking what to use to keep those tubes stiff enough on a needle to prevent annoying rotating and my son came with idea to set a heat shrinking tube on the needle. We did and it works perfectly, Best, Andrey

Hi jonmath1, I haven't changed my scissors, the reason they look different to you is due to the paint coming off the handles as it does after a while.. All the very best Davie

can you use bucktail instead of calf tail , have plenty of buck but no calf and don't live near a fishing shop of hand so would bucktail also work ?
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail 11 жыл бұрын
Hi Roy Smith, Bucktail would certainly be ok, other fibres worth using would be squirrel tail, fox and even a wound hackle would be fine.. All the very best Davie
