Thank you for making me aware of the different shades of quill. I had no idea that the eye of the peackock was lighter in colour than the rest of the feather! I have been stripping quills for years thinking something must be wrong😂

Beautiful & natural looking wet fly. I'd put my money on this pattern doing really well when trout are feeding on march browns.

A perfect example of how to make a fly that catches fish. Rather than the eye of the angler. Your explanation of materials and techniques as ever are top tier. It is always a joy to watch the content from a true icon of our art. You help all of us. From ole hands to newbies. Tying is both separate to fishing, but is for most of us that tie our own flys. Is an intrinsic part of our enjoyment of our sport. When the trout are taking a fly we have produced from our own labour. It is by far a sweeter memory. We all must play our part in not just continuing to support and enjoy our sport. It is vital that we encourage others to try and help them to share in fishing. If we do not as we through age age and infirmity stop fishing our sport is at risk of fading into history. The majority of fly anglers are over fifty. Without new blood in ten to twenty years fisheries could well become non viable due to lack of revenue.

Love these patterns Davie as you say they catch fish. I had to laugh when you stripped the quill and wiped it on your leg, the "gaffer" asks what's that on your trousers when she is doing the washing ? Eyes like a hawk, stay well, Big Davie

Hi Bouhunter, It was tyed to be fished when the lake olives hatch which is around mid April and May and even into June depending on the weather though on the river I fished it in March through to May when we have good hatches of Olives..I would happily fish it anywhere on a cast though on the point suits it fine..I'm glad you like it.. All the very best Davie

I really like the look of this one! Very fishy as they say. Thanks Davie. Ps can I ask which colour dye you used? Light olive, dark olive etc veniards have so many shades
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail Жыл бұрын
Hi I Believe, Two of the best colours to use from Veniards for this colour is Brown Olive and Golden Olive as you can get some lovely shades from them depending on the amount you use..I'm glad you liked the fly.. All the very best Davie

Hi Comes a Horseman, I have tyed one very close with a herl body but it had a natural brown hackle though this version would certainly suit a herl body.. All the very best Davie

Hi Tony, If they felt dry then I may have done this though when I am dyeing and bleaching I always soak them in hair conditioner after as this helps to stop this happening.. All the very best Davie
