I love the dedication and enthusiasm with this kind of line breeding! It is so easy to chase circles with cresties with them been quick yield to turn over animals, so it is nice to see that some breeders put in the years to create amazing healthy line bred beauties like this! Good luck Ryan and thank you, one Dave to another Dav for a brill catch up!

@@craig4135 that’s great. My relationship with mine has improved since lockdown and I’ve been able to spend more time with her. She’ll eat from my hand and hop on to my hand in the enclosure but as soon as I then take that hand out the enclosure she’s jumping everywhere. You can often another hand for her to jump to but she’d rather jump on your face, the wall, anywhere else lol. I did pick the most skittish of the babies available when I got her though so I think it’s partly just her personality. It would be nice if I could handle her a little more but I have other reptiles I can handle so I’m happy to work at her pace. I just don’t like it that she’s stressed when I have to relocate her for cleaning.

Kind of. I have a few f2 wild caught that are super dark. They fire black like these, however they are more olive fired up. These tend to be almost yellow fired down. I think a more apt name for them would be line, rather than morph, as I feel this will need to be dark to dark to produce more, so gains easily lost rather than poly-genic where one of these to anything will produce x. but I think Ryan is doing great and will def love to get one one day😊

Really disappointed with the adult enclosure. Far too small for an adult crested gecko. Looked like it had FTS too. Should be in an EXO twice that size. I've bred hundreds of cresties and the parents always get large enclosures. Typical breeder getting carried away with quantity rather than quality.

@devgordhan5718
@devgordhan5718 3 жыл бұрын
@@smithd2001 it can be prevented by providing lots of climbing surfaces, hides and accessories that cresties can use to hide and move around on. FTS is common when a crestie lies face down on the side of a glass terrarium and their tail flops down. It can be prevented by giving them a space to use where their tail can curl around something. Saying that a crestie doesn't need to have muscles and full use of its tail is so narrow minded. A crestie has the right to the best care and husbandry. Allowing it to develop FTS because of your ignorance not add simple furniture is abhorrent. They deserve our full respect and care if we're going to breed them to make money.
@devgordhan5718
@devgordhan5718 3 жыл бұрын
@@Rjdahlen breeding hundreds of cresties gains you experience. As well as keeping reptiles for well over 20 years. It's not about dick swinging. It's about doing what's right for the animal you care for. Without sounding too animal rights this is the equivalent of keeping a great Dane in a small apartment/ flat. It's unfair and ignorant. How can you claim to love your animals when you subject them to the most minimalist conditions. I fully understand babies being in RUBs as they're going to be sold on. However breeding adults should deserve your full respect. Animal welfare should be the paramount.

Hi there! You can find studies dating back a while via books.google, however author Jerry G Wells wrote for Reptiles magazine in 2011 answering a similar question and writes that inbreeding in reptiles is actually very common. "The fear of harmful results from inbreeding is generally exaggerated, coming more from a few misunderstood problems in human genetics." I would also recommend reading into how far certain reptiles travel for breeding vs others. The results may prove to be very insightful!

Oops! It's Jerry G Walls, not Wells! I hope this helps
@jaykrizzle
@jaykrizzle 3 жыл бұрын
@@Rjdahlen Thanks Ryan, I looked up the article in question and did not see any science, just an assertion from a breeder who performs the practice. Additionally he calls out culling offspring as a necessary consequence of the practice. Do you consider breeding when you know you will have to cull some portion of the inbreds ethical, or indicative of a healthy, natural reproductive strategy? On the contrary, researching actual scientific publications (not herpetoculture mags written by breeders) gives the opposite perspective regarding the effects of inbreeding depression on endangered lizards.
@jaykrizzle
@jaykrizzle 3 жыл бұрын
@@Rjdahlen Can you please explain specifically what these "misunderstood problems" are and what is misunderstood about them? Inbreeding is known to adversely affect many many animals besides humans. On a related note, at the Oaks PA reptile show today, I saw a whole table full of gargs with kinked tails and spines which I thought was curious, since this species is not known for MBD. After reading Jerry's brief comments on the matter, I realize they are likely inbreds!
