Gotta agree, its just to cool you finding the sea crate climbing the tree like that. To bad you couldn't spent more time observing him and what he was up to. And his eyes, really cool.

I spent almost an hour with him. I had to be stingy about filming him because there's no outlets on the island to charge camera batteries :) For as long as I watched him, he was doing pretty much what you saw in the video. I filmed another video just on the snakes, so be sure to check that out as well.

I cannot recommend the group ‘Advancing Herpetological Husbandry’ on Facebook enough. I’ve got loads of info in their based on my 15 years keeping Leo’s on bioactive before bioactive was a thing. Info on primary collection sites, weather patterns, temp and humidity readings from those collection sites. Information on successful substrate choices, watering cycles etc etc. There are tons of very knowledgeable people at the top of the game in there too and it is a very friendly place, with the primary aim being to make our reptiles care the very best it can be, allowing the animal to exhibit all of its natural behaviours.

I think it would be good to have cameras on the island to see things that have never been recorded before. i.e what they eating, behaviour patterns. This would make a excellent addition to your channel. Also its pretty recent that the crested geckos have been re-discovered, does this mean they are close to extinction in the wild??

I’m really loving this series! So much stuff that’s new to the reptile hobby and possibly new to science - just by episode two! My favourite New Cal. gecko has to be the Ils de Pins mossy prehensile railed gecko (Mniarrogecko chahoua, I think!), although I don’t know them all. Do you think you could make a video showcasing all of the ones that you found on the trip, like a highlight compilation?

Very interesting finds, keep more of these vids coming bro, very educational and gives insight to these common captives natural habitat. These videos definitely help me implement and recreate these creatures natural habitats in a captive situation and assist in adding proper enrichment for their captive counterparts. Once again thank you for these videos and keep them coming if you can. If you guys have the money, time and sponsors available to keep doing this I think a series should be formed on the education of both common and uncommon reptiles reptiles natural habitats and wild behaviors should be done. It'd show a lot of people how these animals live in the wild and show keepers how to enrich and keep their reptiles better. You guys are awesome and definitely got a regular viewer here!

There seems to be a lateral stripe gene in the wild I’d be interested if we could use those genetics in the future. At the moment crested geckos are a protected species as they were once considered extinct but this would be really cool.

1:40 How do you know that this wasn't Rhacodactylus trachycephalus, the lesser rough shouted gecko? Pine Island is Terra Typica for it so no new distribution.
@davkaufmansreptileadventures
@davkaufmansreptileadventures 6 жыл бұрын
trachycephalus is currently only known on Moro. Trachyrhynchus is known on Grande Terre. To our knowledge there was no previous documentation of them on Isle of Pines so if this is what we think it is, it would be a range extension. The problem is that he was always turned away from us so we never got to see his face. We may never conclusively know just who this lizard actually is. It could even be a weird looking Chahoua?
@rhacodactylus3812
@rhacodactylus3812 6 жыл бұрын
Dāv Kaufman's Reptile Adventures actually it was first described by Boulenger in 1878 as Chamaeleonurus trachycephalus on Pine Island. So Terra Typica is PI. So since you were on PI filming this I think it was Rhacodactylus trachycephalus not Rhacodactylus trachyrhynchus. Greetings
