I would love for DnD supplements to explain that ever once in a while the higher level demons will occasionally write a sweat heart deal that costs nothing and let crafty negotiators succeed with getting more out of a deal than they lose. Just to acknowledge that they do this to make sure mortals know that there is a legitimate chance to get away with the deal and thus entice more people overall to consider the prospect, but also as a clever smoke screen so nobody will be able to tell the rare occasion where a plucky band of adventurers legitimately manage to outsmart them just and instead believe its all part of the plan.

It tried force, tricks, offering deals, etc. The players loved to hate the poor imp who was just trying to do his job for a caster that needed the hair to make scrying easier.

I actually have a Neutral Good Warlock who has Mephistopheles as her Patron. He gives her power, mainly in the hopes of her being a thorn in Asmodeus' side, as well as a part of their deal that whenever she kills an evil creature with a Rod of the Pact Keeper, he gains its soul. So he gets to cause problems for his boss, and gets more souls.

Homebrew idea: A man tried to summon a devil but accidentally summoned a very curious and very ambitious lower devil. The devil is very fascinated by the realm and wants to see the world. So what rhe devil does is uses the man's body as a medium so he can see into the and explore the world with the man. The man gets the powers of the devil but also gets basically a jojo stand that is the devil. The devil takes the souls of the ones he kills and is housed on the man by using markings on his body that acts as a modified summoning circle. The devil can talk to the man, and this devil talks a lot, almost constantly, and will always tell him to check out anything that catches his attention or can get him more souls. The man is like a melee warlock with a stand.

Here are some helpful tips on how to make a deal with the Devil. Step 1: Don't.

Find out he's too strong to defeat. 2) Get lucky enough to get some of his blood during the fight. 3) Preserve the blood. 4) Find someone who can summon said BBEG in the campaign. 5) Make deal with BBEG to stop their evil plans in exchange for soul of signer. 6) Sign contract with BBEG's own blood you found. 7) Knock that campaign clear off the railroad.

You want evil it's those darn EAs (enrolled agent) they work for the IRS... Heck worse than them I guess would be the politicians who spend so much money on non-essential things unconstitutional things and just I'm right over pay for things... I'm always pro spending cuts. That's a start to lowering taxes but the other thing I wish they'd enact is a law stating that the tax goes with the experience so if you cut the expenses you cut the tax... Cause as is it's frustrating to get taxes to drop... We aren't supposed to pay forever taxes we are supposed to pay situational taxes. They are allowed to levy them but the intent of taxes is supposed to be a way to pay for stuff the people needed the government to pay for because it was either impossible, unconstitutional, or impractical to do any other way...

The plane is named Dis in reference to the infernal city of Dis in Dante’s Inferno. So yeah, the confusion is not 100% WOTC’s fault. To be fair, in the 1300s, this was a perfectly acceptable name in Dante’s native Italian, and supposedly it came from his visions/weird dreams, so it’s really weird, just like most things.

Demons you know for certain they're up to no good, chaotic evil is hard to negotiate with and impossible to expect a deal to hold. Devils however you can make a contract and get what you're looking for, just double check it for loopholes, fine print, and don't default on your mortgage

If you are making a campiagn based around Demons and Devils, please please PLEASE tell your players ahead of time! They have a lot of resistances, and are immune to fire! They need to know so they don't make a pyromancher and then become basically uselless for most of the campagin. This happened to me. Heed my warning. This applies for everything else too. Tell the players what the main threat is so they can make characters prepared for it and not be a wet noodle being slapped against a brick wall.

How to avoid any loop holes in a devil's contract: Write your own contract for them to look over. This actually worked for me in a game, the only thing I lost was instead of 3 crystals to summon the guy for what I needed I only got 1. But being as if they're pleased with how I use it I can get more so long as I'm careful I have an indefinite supply, I just have to sacrifice a few people each time so I plan to use it to capture evil people, and then sacrifice them as the price of their own capture instead of letting him kill them and have to go sacrifice an innocent bystander.

I once made a deal with a devil in one of my games, but instead of using my soul I used the souls of people who I had resurrected as a necromancy all I had to do was reanimate a few bodies and force them to sign over their souls to give me power in the form of a swanky new magic staff that allowed me to regain spell slots when someone near by dies
