Nah totally roleplay it as love instead of friendship and suddenly extra badass levels of love on the battlefield (both Paladin and cleric are bonded by the ability and they are level 17) Paladin: "Ugh this attack is gonna hurt" Cleric: "Channel Divinity! Shared Burden, I absorb all but 1 of the damage!" Paladin: "But you'll die! At least spread it across our allies!!!!" Cleric: "I will happily die for you my love, we know Im just a healer. But through love you and our friends can avenge me. I will not let you die my love" *cleric gets knocked to zero health* Paladin: *gets jacked up and starts laying down divine smites on every foe and then kisses his wife* Paladin: "You okay honey?" Cleric: "Just a few wounds, what's important is you are safe and that's my role to the party" Bard named Mokuba: "AND NOW FOR A LOVE BALLAD FOR THEY ARE ABOUT TO FU.." *bard gets punched by the monk* Monk: "Shut up Mokuba"

So the thing with the Clockwork Soul is that honestly... you shouldn't look at it as a Steampunk class. It should be renamed Soul of Primus/Modron/Mechanus, as the abilities are basically a prime example of Mechanus's Pure Lawful nature. I mean you even say it in your Outer Realms video, when on Mechanus, any and all damage rolls are automatically default to their medium rolls.

@@giraffedragon6110 Hurting your party shouldn't be an option for a Cleric about interpersonal bonds. It shouldn't be an ability for any class. Hurting the party should be a choice of the player, not a built in option for a class. Unity is helping reach a similar goal, and I don't see how killing you team does that.

@@eveescastle5866 You would need a good amount of set up for that, and even then you won't be even close to half that. Channel Divinity is once per short or long rest, and any form of damage reduction is used after the Cleric decides who that hate the most. You need to know what resistance you need to make this ability effective at reducing damage. Otherwise you spread out damage and hurt the team for no reason. Plus you don't even need to share the damage of an ally. You just select a creature being damaged, and delegate that to your party by your desire. Like I have said, hurting your party should be player choice, not a built in option.

Davvy, I think you might be overlooking something when it comes to the Unity cleric. The resistance you get from the bond only lasts until the end of the current turn (not round, turn). This means that unless the creature attacking has multi/extra attack then you gain resistance to one instance of damage.

That's literally what Unearthed Arcana is supposed to be??? Like, it's all Playtest material it's not meant to be balanced yet. That's the reason they release it as UA, to see how they need to tweak the balance before they potentially make it official.

@@LordZeebee Yeah, but before a video game is released to Beta, they have to playtest it a little themselves to find the big bugs before their Beta players find the smaller, less common bugs. It should be the same thing here. Many of these subclass options inherently break the game. Anyone that has even a decent knowledge of how the game works would be able to see that, and these guys are supposed to be the ultimate authority on the game. For instance, being able to create something from nothing and have the option to make it semi-permanent without any downsides aside from what is still realistically a large amount of money in the scheme of things in D&D? That's how you break an economy. The saving grace that separates this from, say, WOW, is that each DM controls his or her world and can nix things like broken subclasses. Or even attempt to fix them. I guess my point is this: if they want to homebrew, then call it that. But they're effectively spit-balling extremely loose ideas into the community and expecting us to sand them down into workable option.

I can think of a lot of combos that would make the new Cleric God Tier at high levels. Zealot Barbarian gets an ability that gives allies advantage on everything for one round Grave Cleric can just cancel crits as a reaction And Paladins can give everyone insane bonuses to saving throws... So what does that make? A basically invincible party. Advantage on all saving throws plus a billion so long as you are within range and resistance to all damage and the ability to just cancel crits... Good luck taking out high level rogues and monks because Evasion...

I know Unity Cleric already has Friendship is magic jokes but it seems more like Nakama power-up to me. I also think of double boost from Sonic forces for some reason. Maybe the DM can play Fist Bump when the ally goes down. Literally the idea of the two players giving each other high fives before each fight is also kinda cool.

I really like the sorcerer subclass, cant wait to play it! It might be stronger than the abjuration wizard yes but honestly thats not too bad. Since i started playing DnD 2 years ago everyone told me not to play sorcerers because wizards are so much better in a lot of ways. Maybe having 1 sorcerer sublass that is stronger than a wizard subclass would be refreshing.

Hell the Ancient Greeks regarded Eros or erotic love as a form of sudden maddness you were stricken with. Almost like a sickness. Go figure. So the Love Cleric wasn't just great, it was an emobiment of Ancient Greek philosophies on what love was.
