Alexander Larsson I know I’m a bit late. But this is truly a matter of perspective, as Davy Jones did his Job and for 10 years led the way for dead souls as per what Calypso said to him. But after 10 years when he looked for her, she wasn’t there. So since he was in a position of power, an Immortal captain who leads one of the strongest ships and the mightiest crew he did what he did and killed many. But we can’t necessarily hate on him as who knows what we would’ve done if we were in his position. Remember he worked 10 years in order to be reunited with her, thats dedication and shows how much he loved her but then she betrayed him just like that. Personally I think I also would’ve lost control, but it depends tho.
@alexanderlarsson4254 жыл бұрын
parheps I see your point but it really wasn’t Calypso who betrayed him. It was the other way around, meaning Jones betrayed calypso by teaching the bretherin court how to capture her in a human body. Since calypso was the sea goddess before she got imprisoned she was basically the whole sea. Davy Jones loved the sea and he was therefore with her the entire duration of those ten years. When he got to go to shore she obviously wasn’t there since she was the embodiment of the sea. He spent ten year with her, and one day without her. This leads to him betraying her and imprisoning her. He is not the victim of any sort in my opinion

I mean, the third and fourth films kinda relied on a real-life entity or person who's story seems a bit out of place for the films (but great nonetheless). They took the Honorable East India Company and turned them into a paramilitary force that nearly rivaled the Royal Navy just because of one man's grudge against all pirates. And Blackbeard? Not sure anyone else realizes this, but the real-life Edward Teach actually treated both his crew and captives with upmost respect and cared for their well-being, far different from the Blackbeard we see in the fourth film, who appears more like the legends and myths surrounding him than his real-life counterpart. And though the 5th film doesn't seem to be held in high regards to the others (probably a bit due to both Disney and Johnny Depp), I say it has its own place in Pirates lore, simply because it created an entirely, completely original enemy in Capitan Armando Salazar, his crew, and their ship, the Silent Mary. The Silent Mary was not a real ship (but based off of an old French man of war), Salazar and his men were not based off of any form of nautical legend (as far as I know of), and overall it was a good film. The story and elements in it were very unique, something that we haven't seen in the series since the first film. And am I the only one here who half-expected Disney to add in animatronics of Salazar and his men (not cursed) on the battlements of the fort in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride?

She promised we would be together, then she gave her heart to someone else. I will kill James, I will kill her, and I will kill anyone who tries to stop me. It rips all feeling of love away from you, makes you heartless and cruel. She pretended to love me, she betrayed me. I do not fear death, I fear nothing anymore. It’s always a good day to die... for me, because I want to die, let me die.

Some trilogies or movies in general design that one character that is so well written. You see what life he has to live, you identify with it in certain aspects. He has depth, he has power, he has character, he has something you root for in ways. Davy Jones is a fantastic character.

This has gotta be the best Davy Jones tribute. It's not just about making him terrifying. It's about his sensitive side and how his empathy was damaged. As he said, his freedom was "forfeit" long ago. As violent and abusive as he is, he is ultimately tragic and more feminine than Calypso.

You met a girl, you fell for her, you told yourself she was good even though the signs were saying otherwise. You're both in love for a time. You committed to her, adored her, considered her rightfully above your own selfish desires. And yet despite all that, she ends up leaving you, following her nature. You are left stranded and helpless in asking yourself what you did to deserve such betrayal, your happiness turned to ash. It's here you're left with 2 choices, lay the past to rest though it may haunt you and live for a more hopeful future, or let the despair course through you and define who you are. Jones is what the latter is, the betrayed that seek revenge and hatred as justice. Am I like him? No. Have I thought of being like him? Everyday.

They should make a solo movie for Davy Jones, one for young Jack Sparrow, one for Jack Sparrow's dad, one a short 45 minute movie for Jack Sparrow's Uncle (Uncle Jack), and one for each of the other 8 Pirate Lords, heck, if they put effort to it, they could make this as big as star wars

"Ten years I took the duty you charged me. Ten years I looked after those who died at sea. And finally when we could be together again, you weren't there." That quote still leaves me with goosebumps. Davy was betrayed by his beloved and cursed, trapped in that octopus body, a curse of the sea itself, casted by non other than Calypso herself. I read the books before I watched the movies, and there are hidden hints that aren't shown in the movies. Anyway, I loved watching this! ♥️

All single men who had their heart broken like Davy Jones. Unlike Davy we can all relate to his pain. Davy loved a goddess of the sea Calypso. They loved each other so much but once the ten years came and when he came back she wasn't there. In sadness, pain and heartbreak Davy cut out his own heart to try and stop the pain he was feeling. Only to still look after the souls that parished at sea and corrupt the purpose he held. He put his heart in a chest and buried it and left it on a random island and didn't dare to get it back. Again all us broken hearted men can definitely relate to his pain.

More of a matter of perspective really, she really did love him and even in death he loved her too. It's just the circumstances where complicated and davy jones acted out of impulse, which no one can blame him for it. That's the beauty of the story of davy jones and calypso, they loved one another, but through complicated events, they betrayed one another and lived their lives regretting their decisions.

The real lesson is that to never be in a relationship with a wild one, untamable, specially a woman, because they will take advantage of your kindness and chivalry, deceive, and pretend to love you, to take what the woman wants from you. And in the end, all that untamable woman will say when things go wrong is that it's *their nature*, skirting from responsibility.
