Love these videos and it is great to get the history behind them. My own 'Irish' ancestry is tied closely with my 'Scots' ancestry and both are tied to Rebellion and Freedom and against the persecution of Catholics.

@@davyholdenYour podcast is interesting to watch. I wondered if you planned to cover Edward Carson or James Craig, basically the men who set up Northern Ireland ?

Terrific video Davy and somewhat puts in context the debate around rebel songs being sung now days ie Celtic Symphony when if fact Our own National anthem is as you say a rebel song. We should never dilute Our History for the sake of appeasing others. I'm proud of my Country and its History and thankful to its Rebels. What a wonderful gift you have of bringing Our History to life. Go raibh maith agat 🍀💚🇮🇪✊

Ahhhh... there we are...just commented on another of your videos wanting info about the Irish and the Jacobite Rebellion. I am still researching the Irish involvement (if any in the Jacobite cause). Since I'm an Amercian, I don't learn this here. All part of my Fitzgerald and Macdonald/McDaniel family research. This is a start!

Hey Davey, I’m Australian, but my people are from Mayo. My genealogy recently proved me 99% Irish. I love my heritage, and as a guitarist/musician I’m lured to the stories. Im curious what you’d consider to be prominent/modern rebel songs. I don’t think there’s many that belong, but I always like God be with you Ireland used in the devils own. A cranberries song, but I don’t think it’s on any record🤔. P.S. are you the fella I was talking to a while back, shared love of Frusciante style playing?

A wonderful song which sadly you never hear anyone sing these days was written in 1915 but sung in the GPO during the Rising and called "The Day" written by Brian O'Higgins who of course was stationed himself in the GPO during the Rising. Like many great works of his, "Soldiers of Cumann na mBan" and "The Day" for example, if you ask anyone to sing them these days you just get a plank look. It's so sad these great works are being lost for future generations.

Hello Davy I've a question. During the anniversary of the 1916 easter rising, you played the tune from the 7 leaders documentary. For the life of me I can't find this tune anywhere. Do you know it?

Adam, I’ve been looking for that song myself since I put up those videos. I can’t find anywhere who performed it. It’s driving me nuts!

You forgot about one of the oldest , original songs that you can track it down till not much long after the Irish Potato Famine done by the Brits when they took the potatoes to make their awfull "Fish and Chips". That song is indeed the "Up the Ra" by "The Rubberbandits" , it was sang by Cassidy , the bloodsuccer from "The Preacher" and his fellas during the Easter Rising , and thats an historical fact , the ones that need a source to it is here up my arse . Edit: link to the song : kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHjEln9oZ7WeptUsi=mFTpUfR4gFoh2jdf
