This song was written for every person in a dying relationship, but holding out hope that something will save it, all the while seeing the signs of it ending. The sadness of knowing it's only a matter of time. And how in love you once were....it's over.

Very underrated lyrics. I got this album since the lead singer from my favorite band, Deer Tick, says this is his favorite band. Thank God. I bought extra copies for everyone I know with good taste, and they love it too now. I caught them live at Lollapalooza. I haven't seen anyone so into a performance since Ben Harper live years ago. Great talent. This band is going to be huge. Get the album, you'll love them.

It's like watching "the last waltz" And yes the video production is that good. But the band...I'm so excited to have stumbled upon this band. Can't wait wait to see them live. The Band(Rick Danko) N. young (Guitar playing so Springsteen it's awesome) -and the lyrics and song writing... every song powerfully, refreshingly, new but familiar and empowering way. This band will inevitably grow to help define quality American music that's been composed this decade, so far.

What dawes has is timeless songs like all the great songwriters, the grateful dead amd robert hunter being an example. Real stories and not just the same overused love metaphors but ones that paint a real deep picture. So glad I found Blake Mills and in turn these guys!

Saw these guys open up for Alison Krauss & Union Station last week at the Beacon Theater in NYC. What a pleasant surprise! Great singing, playing and songwriting. It's refreshing to hear a contemporary band with some maturity and substance - and vocal harmonies. This song in particular definitely sounds very influenced by The Band (a good thing in my opinion) with a little something extra all their own. I will definitely go and see these guys again.

@jaydilts We saw them last night in Atlanta. You're right, they are pretty great. We bought their CD and love, love, love it.
Oh Lou, I'd like to let you know that I do not feel welcome All the birds, the trees, the falling snow; No, they were not made for me And though this is where her heart resides, we met in California She saw a city's promise reaching through my eyes And she turned her self away Well how I curse that western skyline And yet I thanked it for my start Oh Lou, no my dreams did not come true No, they only came apart So I followed her here to Birmingham, where the soil is so much richer And though my aching pride might guide my hand, she did not ask for me to come So I wait for her all through the day, as if I wait for her surrender And every time I get her to look my way, she says I'm not where I belong But I watch her father preach on Sundays I know the hymnals all by heart But oh Lou, no my dreams did not come true No, they only came apart Ohhhh, oh oh oh oh Ohhhh, oh oh oh oh Ohhhh, oh oh oh oh Ohhhh, oh oh oh oh All the snow fall this time of year, it's not what Birmingham is used to I get the feeling that I brought it here, and now I'm taking it away But let's share one more drink together, before I go reload my car And oh Lou, no my dreams did not come true No they only came apart

saw these guys at Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael (a venue that was founded by members of the Grateful Dead). Here's my review. They looked a little tired... they had just played a show in Quincy, CA. the night before... so it considering it was a back to back... they actually did awesome. The venue was small and the sound guy had Taylor's guitar up wayyy too f'ing loud... This group hovers between being a folk band / a jam rock band / and an up tempo pop rock band like late Tom Petty / for this reason... it's hard to know what kind of venue they truly belong in... Their new pianist is amazing... he played an incredible rendition of "A Little Bit of Everything." In many ways... they music that night was BETTER than the recordings... however just couldn't help but feel for the dudes they looked truly drained out...

I cant understand the appeal of "DAWES." Good lord this music has been done soooo many times before. And as far as the Zevon parallel... where the hell is the satire and humor. These guys are too smug and conceited to even be compared to Zevon. Man they look good though, it is clear that all their time and effort spent to appear "authentically vintage" has worked.
