How Rare Vehicles Break the War Thunder Experience

One thing I would like to add is I think its fine to for a vehicle to be rare but at the same time it should be obtainable by something else rather that gambling or for example the KV-7 Event where it was a waste of time of majority of players to even try to get the IS-7. If the challenge to get the vehicle is extremely hard fair enough but at least its possible which I think is a huge improvement compared to the ways to get rare vehicles now.

One thing that I think should definitely happen is transparency. What I mean they should show the odds whenever you gamble with the lion boxes you buy. It give the player an idea of how much to buy to expect a win. Plus this battlepass is ass so I expect boxes in 2months or so

I think one way to solve the issue it would be to allow to grind or get the vehicles from past events, and the people who already own the vehicles could get a special skin ( since gaijin is making vehicles with skins now 'ex: tiger bundle") just so they can feel a little more special for playing the event, ( even though i know that would make the market kinda useless)

Helldivers 2 uses the battle pass system you describe, where you can go back to older ones in order to get content that you missed. It's HUGELY successful and is part of the game's positive player opinion. Gaijin would be doing themselves a huge favor if they were to make old battle passes available again, and could even make new battle passes that use vehicles from previous grind/crafting events. Players would go nuts for that sort of thing.

here's a thought. By keeping vehicles EXTREMELY rare, Gaijin gets to run up the price in the marketplace. Don't forget these are virtual tanks. There isn't a physical tank that Gaijin needs to buy in order to sell. They pocket the cash.

The only factor that determines how expensive a given vehicle is is the coupons availability. More coupons, less expensive. And Gaijin is the only one with the power to release more coupons.

@@cuda010 I use gaijin's market to do investments on vehicles so I can use this money instead my own and for few years of my observations, I came to conclusion that they really are manipulating some vehicles, especially these one from the skins crates (e.g M60 AMBT or kfz 234/4), they keep high volume of bids on certain prices so they won't get lower than they want so people will be encouraged to open crates and gain some profit

For the battle pass, you could add in a golden ticket, and after you get a certain amount, you can redeem it for an old event vehicle. You could put it in after level 75 where its all dead spaces till 150. Or do what they did for the 10 year anniversary where you have a bunch of old vehicles that you get mission score to unlock it.

Yeah, as always, I got jack squat for the 10th anniversary, as I already have all these vehicles. Same goes for their casino thunder SL lootboxes. Over the last 2+ years I got about 15 vehicles that I already have, so they gave me SLs instead. What a sham.

I completely agree. Vehicles should be grindable a certain time after the event, say a year. And perhaps to maintain some rarity make it difficult, like the squadron rp system or something. There’s just no point gatekeeping so many cool vehicles, it’s so stupid.

I completely agree. Gundam Battle Operation 2 does this with their clan battle/event mobile suits, making them available to people who didn't participate ~6 months afterward. As much as that game pisses me off, that's a pretty fair way of doing it.

I'm someone who's been playing this game since June 2013, but because of events and issues I wasn't able to really sit down and dedicate time to grinding events until September 2023, meaning I missed out on almost every event vehicle except the T-V and KV-220. I have the Tiger II 105, Panther II, and Coelian, and I really wish I had gotten the IS-7 and E-100 when they were available, and I want new players like my friends to have a chance at getting them as well. I think it would go a long way to making the climate more welcoming to new players and make things a bit healthier overall. I don't know how this should be implemented, that's something the community as a whole should decide on, but I think this has to happen in some way.

Yeah i also have the Tiger II 105, Panther II, and Coelian. Had to work hard as I was just under that tier and had to grind and get them just before they dropped them. But I rarely had time to do that, so I lack tons of other rare stuff as well.

It’s a tough one - cause the feeling of having an exclusive vehicle is pretty cool, I do feel pretty badass driving out in a Panther 2 or 105 Tiger, but at the same time, I’ve missed out on things like the Obj 279 or even less rare vehicles from previous events or battle passes. I think they should add them back in, either purchasable or you can earn them, even if it’s crazy hard like you need loads of in game score or 1000s of kills to unlock them. Forza did a system where players unlocked a token that could be used to redeem an old car that came out previously but could no longer be obtained - a system like that would be cool, say you get 500 kills in Russian tanks, you can unlock a token for a certain rarity of tank, all the way up to 10,000 kills for an IS7 or Obj 279. Something like that would be cool, if players are really bothered for a tank they can grind out a token, if not then no worries.

A good example for the SL lootbox "it's possible" arguement is that for me, I literally spent over 250 million SL in total on the last 2 SL boxes 'n only got boosters, wagers 'n backups while one of my mates got IS-7 'n couple others got some random vehicles. So sure it's a possibility but then again so is winning the lottery, it's highly unlikely that you'd win it but someone is bound to win it

I also would like to see rare vehicles be obtainable again. I say this as someone who whaled an Excelsior for hundreds of pounds. Hell, they could even introduce alternate versions of the rare vehicles so they'd still stay "rare". The event Russian version of the Type-62, as a vehicle, is redundant now because there's a non-event version in the Chinese tech tree. And yet you'll find it still goes for a hefty price on the marketplace. They can do something similar with other event vehicles. Like, for the Excelsior for example, implement the version that used the M6's suspension type. Or for the E-100, implement a version with the actual proposed turret and maybe the 150mm gun. Honestly, anything that isn't "you can never ever get these vehicles unless you're willing to fork over mountains of money for them".

I think the whole battlepass needs a rework. I play a few games daily and am current playing in 7.7 BR, and occasionally try to do the objective/missions to level up my BP and only got to like teir 6 out of 150 which is wild when games like Overwatch's dailies can be knocked out in like 2-3 games.

yeah, if you dont focus specifically on BP challenges and dailies and rerolls, it's really hard to passively grind the battlepass. They ask for random stuff, like destroying enemy vehicles using a heavy tank, or destroying 8 enemy SPGs, or destroying tanks with an SPAA, capturing 2 points (and some matches have only 1 point) And the BP challenges that give 3 levels also require some insane things, like playing navy, playing air, destroying tanks with planes, destroying boats with planes, destroying tanks with planes while using missiles or bombs of different weight or different calibers, help repairing 30 tanks etc and most people dont even look at the challenges or dont even know they done it.

Personally I think the Panther 2 and the tiger 10.5 as well as the Flakpanzer341, to be honest those vehicles shouldn't have been removed, and like you said we have things like the Japanese F-16 that flat out never existed, that thing makes the P1000 Rat look real, and yeah I will agree that rare vehicles regardless for what some people say they do give you an advantage over someone that's not in a rare vehicle, I mean take the Panther 2 that has an 88 gun, and it's got a rangefinder, it has very good reverse speed, and if you do get into a night battle you got night vision in the form of the vampire site, same thing with the tiger 2 10.5 it's got a rangefinder so you could hit targets at far longer distances than what the other guy can do

I think you're on the right track. Those vehicles should be obtainable some how other than.. Perhaps a concept of once you have become a Level 100 player and have reached all tanks in a certain tech tree you can then start some new personal event unlocking the rare tanks in that tech tree. I have missed out on multiple event vehicles because I just didn't even know it was a thing (learning the game). Once realized and over a year and a half in the KV-7 event netted me a new Kv-7 and the extremely small chance to get an IS-7. Which at the end of the day was not worth it in my eyes. I was well past the BR for the KV-7 to have an effect on grinding the tree and the IS-7 was just a joke for the number of people who got one vs number of players. With that said I wouldn't get rid of the KV-1 now that I have it but.. Food for thought, at the end of the day it isn't tangible and your account could vanish at anytime.

There's a term called FOMO, fear of missing out, It's an actual thing in the industry and one of the main things considered when developing a games monetization system. You make it so you can miss it, keeps players engaged because they're afraid of missing out on something.

While i agree on the battlepass argument, Im pretty sure the entire reason they introduced a BP is to create a FOMO for not playing, and to keep people playing every day. The minute you allow them to play old BPs they lose that tactic. Its somewhat the same for rare vehicles. For a long time the M26E1 was an american 6.7 premium tank, as the owner of both that and the Panther II, they were essentially the same tank but in a different nation. They played very similarly, and the M26E1 actually performed slightly better. The problem is that nobody cared about the pershing because it wasnt rare, despite the fact it wouldve given them 98% of the gameplay experience of the Panther II. While it sucks people can't play rare vehicles, a large reason they put those vehicles on such a pedestal in the first place is BECAUSE theyre rare. Its a similar story to the BP, the minute they allow a lot of people to acquire them, they lose their cool factor, and people stop caring about them as much.

What they should do is create a GOOD looking skin for players who currently have the vehicle, then opened it for one week like the maus. That way you can equip the skin and still have the bragging rights of rarity, and I can finally play some of those vehicles.

Another issue: event/experiment vehicles(maus) you cant pull up in the pen analysis to learn where to shoot these vehicles because, technically, they arent in the tech tree anymore.

Having earned a lot of the rare event vehicles and stuff im very 50/50 on having people get them. Of course people should be able to get vehicles they like. But it also feels good having special vehicles that I earned. I personally think that bringing back old event vehicles is fine, but have it be distinctively different in a way to show the people who got it from the original event, compared to the new event. So an example being the IS-7, they bring it back in a event. But those who get it from the new event has like a little symbol next to the vehicles name to show they didnt receive it from the original event. So sorta like how the countries symbol shows up next to the name if its captured or lend lease. That way new people can have rare vehicles but older players like I can still have that sense of like, accomplishment or specialness.

A free with the battle pass suggestions of being able to complete it later down the line since these battle passes are extremely hard to advance in if you don't just grind challenges and making them be able to be done later would incentivize people to purchase it so that eventually they could grind out the vehicles in it.

i think what they should do, for every battle pass, is they should have Three options for each vehicle (or 3 choices for the main vehicle) and then the other 2 vehicles are past event/battle pass vehicles, and if you pick one you already have, you get a coupon for it, that you can sell... None of that crap where if you get a vehicle you already have, they give you like. 20,000 SL, or some bs (and then something similar for warbond shop rewards, just more options for vehicles and coupons for vehicles you already have, etc)

They do it to add to the FOMO and keep market prices artificially inflated My thought years ago was that in between events they should have like a tanker star that you can earn over the course of a week or a month and theyre only available between events or for tanks when a plane event is happening or vice versa But with those in between stars you can earn old event vehicles, the more rare they are the more stars. Maybe the is7 takes like 20 stars so you have to earn it over the course of a year. While lower tier or more common ones cost less stars. Its a way to keep people playing in between events and make gaijin happy keeping rare vehicles rare... but not impossible to earn. Kind of like squadron vehicles but over a longer period of time and more individual. People who want ultra rare stuff will stay invested over a long period of time. And others may just get an old rank 2 premium that hasnt been around since 2018. Either way it allows older event vehicles to actually be obtainable to new players, maybe even do the same with removed vehicles!! I started playing right when they removed the maus and the panther 2, and while its great we get a chance to get the maus every year. Why cant we get any of the other removed vehicles??

I agree that events should come back, in the past I didn’t have the time to grind them, and every new event tank is a F-ing modern tank, which is an era I don’t care for but a tank like the T-30 came out when I was younger and in school so I couldn’t get it, these modern events also don’t have low tier rewards, it’s just one big one and nothing else! And also on battle passes they should let us grind previous ones, especially if you paid for it and didn’t finish it (and in the past I felt like they barely progressed because I didn’t realise how they worked) but even today they are still tedious to grind.

Kinda gotta agree. I technically like the exclusivity but on the other hand I'd love to have the VT 1-2, which unfortunately is about 500 GJN now. I actually want it so badly that I might buy it one day, its just sad that its SO much. Problem is that too many people would be mad af if Gaijin made the vehicle that they spent hundreds of bucks on grindable again and therefore fucked them over. Plus Gaijin would miss out on the 15% GJN cut that they get with every sale on the Gaijin Market.

I'm not going to lie, I enjoy owning rare vehicles (have most), just part of the human mind lol... Though I can see the other side of the table and can agree with most of it. I hate the lootbox system, I'd be fine with older event vehicles returning through playing as long as they are as hard to obtain as they originally were (The IS7 event was brutal) for example. I also agree on their inconsistencies when it comes to fake vehicles.

Having past battle passes come back would be cool despite its effect on the marketplace, but bringing back even vehicles would be simply too far. Gaijin should keep some kind of reward in the game for people who showed commitment and showed up for the event.

They may learn again if everyone started hating the game ie boycotting and they may potentially fix BP rewards. I think the best BP reward was PT76-57 and couple of odd non copy paste reward then went downhill from there

I hate gambling as well it sickens me that war thunder is going down that path, I never ever buy any of those event chests that they do and I scold my mate when he gets them lol, ive been super lucky that I’ve been playing long enough to have all those rare vehicles you mentioned the IS-7 and the 279 I played those events the boarhound was one of the first events I ever took part in I think I was well past Maus, flak 341 and panther 2 and tiger 2 10.5 before they got removed, I have all the R2Y2s spaded them recently too and I hate the fact my mate will never get them because the snail just seems uninterested in bringing them back I don’t have the KV-1B but I’d be excited if I could get access to it but I doubt it, as for Themis battlepass I think it’s aaa in terms of the copy paste nature of it I’ll probably get it for the vehicles and the SL bonuses and the decorations, I’m not fussed about the challenges I never complete them all anyway I usually go to the loading screen then relax I’ve only ever once gone for the coupons to get the next one for free, I think they have options for better vehicles there’s a bunch that have been in the files over the last few years that have never come they could gone for and the likes of when we had that huge CDK leak and the modeller oppsie a few years ago, why they chose these machines stinks

Seems like this is probably the unpopular opinion, but I am completely fine with the way rare vehicles are implemented. I don't think everyone should be able to get everything. Just feels more realistic that way lol

I would like to see us as a community to find ways we can get war thunder to listen to us and make actions. I would really like to see the content creators and the community to come together on this and brain storm ideas so change can actually happen.

I hate that people defend vehicles being rare cause the only reason they do that is to gate keep interesting, fun vehicles that are seen as some sort of status symbol that will only "negatively" affect the people that already have it if other people are given the opportunity to get it

i'm proud of having rare things. such as sturmtiger which is the only rare thing i like to have. i also have the object 292 but id ont play russia. i do feel like some tanks should be available however some more unique i feel like should be a bit rarer to get. maybe add like slmething flashy and cosmetic for the previous players that owned it before it became publicly available so that they can show that they had the tank before it became publicly available. i feel like it would counteract a bit of the hoarding to themselves and give a bit of freespace for them to be accepted as publicly available.

Nah I like the SL loot boxes, I already have everything I want unlocked and bought so those give me something to spend my otherwise useless SL on. Plus they give me a chance to convert SL to GJN which is great. Would never go for a GE box though.

War Thunder has huge issues with enticing/keeping/rewarding new or even returning players and this type of stuff only cements it much much harder, games that do this tend to stagnate to death instead of thriving so I truly hope they change their tune on stuff like this, FOMO vehicles are bullshit

I use to play it till they forced gun parallax was not a huge fan of having to switch between RB and SB and basically be playing with new gun handling.

I personally think it might be better if you get older battlepases more you play the game. Anyway normal games give you all BPs already from start (like Dead by Daylight)

I did get an Amx-50 Surblinde from a loot box even though it wasn't a coupon I did get it right onto my account and I was happy about that because the first account I owned the tank and an Is7 but I was in an accident and ended up in a coma for 3 months and from the accident I received brain damage and had no idea what my email or passwords were until almost idk 2 years later I found a notebook that had email and passwords I wrote down. Yet I started that account in 2012 and now I can't use it because I have the account I started and have dropped WAY more than enough money on it and will not give that up either just for that fact.

Love the idea of being able to come back to battlepasses, I think halo mcc has a system like that which is cool. But I don't see how reintroducing rare vehicles could work. People want vehicles to be rare & obtainable, but if its obtainable then how can it be rare? Admittedly I got lucky in the teutonic giants tournament and snagged an e100, and I've spent years grinding out events and now removed vehicles because I enjoy collecting, all the way back to early 2013 so I think it's fair to say my opinion will be different to alot of other players that didn't get lucky. But personally I'd feel so much worse being able to add the few vehicles i missed at the cost of the ones I did grind for no longer being special to own, than it staying as it is now and having to live with missing a few. The only thing I can think of is if something is put in place so if a vehicle is released to the masses, the original owners before that point could have something to differentiate that it is idk "an original" for lack of a better term. Unique camos, slightly different model. I don't know, I guess I just don't want to see the silly amount of time and effort I've put in be watered down to "well everyone has it now". That make sense?

The easiest way is just to tack it onto a existing event for example they could have 2 previous vehicles you could pick to grind instead of the Shir 2. But if you choose to grind those vehicles you don't get a coupon its automatically enabled on your account.

I wasn't playing Germany when they removed the Tiger 2 105, Panter 2, and Coelian. They should just put them back in. It makes zero difference other than giving Germany a lineup they said they'd give Germany anyway. They lied, they just wanted to screw Germany over, and there are plenty of fake vehicles in game and the number is only increasing. There is zero point to not add them back in. Hell, it even increases the grind, which is Gaijin's favorite thing.

You have to understand gaijin is a business and still needs to make money to continue improving the game. So if we want to see the changes that we would like to see, Then we need to also find ways that gaijin can make money. We also need some level of accountability on both sides.

I have a rare premium vehicle that I opened from lootboxes and is objectively ass. And I can't do anything about it because I'm on console. Also GE lootboxes in tons of quantities, all I can do is melt them down after some time into Warbond tickets

Day by day, my hope for this game goes down the drain. They just seem to focus more on top tier (almost no one plays it). And i bet, the miracolous day they decide to focus in any other thing other than top tier, it will be to add the obj 277, obj 416 and swiss panzer variants as "rare" tanks (rare being a sinonym of premium with extra steps).

Rare vehicles need to be able to be grinded even if it’s a shit ton of xp. Get ride of the marketplace and make challenges for the vehicles like squad vehicles.
