deceptively simple but engaging, my brain loves this kind of thing for zoning out :)

Yeah. I'd have to get myself a bunch of cactus to spread around the place.

@@thedigitallost are you even into synths? I don't see any succulents in your videos.

"recommendations for a decent and cheap drum machine? " i'd personally recommend the Korg Volca Drum as it is a drum synth rather than just a drum machine, has a very versatile range of tones and is indeed rather 'cheap'. I am personally enamoured with the Elektron Model Cycles for many similar reasons (and more) though i would not consider it 'cheap'. Drum machines to stay away from are the Volca Beats, Arturia Drum Brutes and the Roland TR8 as these are all rather basic with limited tonal possibilities and a generally dated (classic) sound.

Thanks for the suggestions! The Volca drum actually looks interesting. Certainly, there does seem to be a lot of control there. For similar reasons I've also been looking at the Elektron Model Samples. I'm still trying to figure out what the differences between that and the Cycles are. I would love to know further your thoughts on why you're so into the Cycles. Both the Elektrons and the Volca seem to have a bit of weirdness going on, in a good way. But yeah, I'd agree with you in wanting to maybe avoid some of the more classic/conventional drum machine sounds. I'll definitely watch and listen to some more demos of the Volca drum though.

@@thedigitallost i have both the Model Samples and the Model Cycles. Both are great machines though i do find myself neglecting the M:S in favour of the M:C due to finding more enjoyment in 'quirky' synthesis rather than manipulation of samples. The two machines share the same great sequencer and quite limited but nice effects. The Volca drum is similar though different as it uses a rather cool implementation of Physical Modeling synthesis which is quite different to the FM style synthesis of the M:S. The Volca Drum is quite capable of drones and other strange sounds in addition to its percussive capabilities, though the M:S is quite good with pulses , drones and chords along with its percussive voices also. Using all three machines synced together is very enjoyable.

Wow! Thank you for your extremely helpful description there! Seriously, this is really cool and helpful. All three of the models that we've discussed seem actually really interesting and I might focus on them for a little while. Read up on reviews and listen to demos. Thanks again!
