In 93’ I fell from scaffolding shattering my arm and fracturing my pelvis in three places. It took approx six months to get mobile again. I was young (40) at the time. Love you guys.

Micheal. I am always standing 1 foot away with fire extinguisher and had her stand very far from the arc. MIG does not produce sparks and flash behind the gun. Only from the sides and front. One last note is Iana ran a bead of 1/2 inch for 3 seconds. I weld 3 to 5 hours some days and wear protection from the UV rays. Not for burns as when one knows where the arc is and where the sparks may fly welding with MIG is not an issue. Even stick welding has a higher chance of burning. Rest assure I don’t ever let Iana get in a position of danger (not saying what may happen when I am not around). Thank you for your comments and concern. Capt W

Burns are excrusciatingly painful. You should have a proper leather welding coat or apron with a welders sleeve on your welding arm.& a proper welding glove too. Suntan lotion on the exposed skin. Yes, you can get a nasty "sun burn" from welding. Ask me how I know? :( A welding blanket/shield will protect the welding from the wind. Welding is a universal skill. Better paying than waitressing. I have every confidence you could/can do this to a professional result. Just like Suzie from Sailing Emerald Steel. Suzie welded that whole boat some 30-40 years ago. There is also a Bruce Robert's boat that was built by 2 women. One of which welded the whole project. I am always impressed by you two and your adventurous spirit. I have refined my thruster plan by using a fire pump. That will move the boat forward, reverse & side to side as well as rotate in its length and provide pressurized water/foam that can be used for marine fire fighting. And not a single through hole in the hull at all. Will also pump out boats too. Looking forward to your decisions of your travels. The Abacos Plan sounds interesting. Many are stranded all over. I'd be staying close to options if it was me. Looking forward as usual to your next video offering. ;)

I feel its important to learn your boat, especially without your thrusters, as things have a nasty habit of not working when you need them most, fenders lines wind and current ,where do I want to end up, what can go wrong, if it does where mite I end up, then the plan for what I will do if I do end up where I don't want to be, I think boating is about what ifs, and what you do about them, and always having that plan at least thought out .
@DawnHunters4 жыл бұрын
MST You are 100% correct. There are just some times when the wind is howling, pouring rain and night when marina calls and informs you a slip opened up but you need take it or goes to someone else. It is those times (Iana and I had many) that there is no choice but to enter a strange marina in the dark surrounded by multi million dollar yachts that having as many options as possible on your side. The thrusters are suspenders but having ones pants on the deck should be avoided at all costs. Lol Capt W

@@DawnHunters for sure i have had similar problems taking yachts in to very small harbours surrounded by rocks you could throw a stone across the entrance, I was going in , in fog you couldn't see both sides of this tiny harbour St Monans harbour the fog was pea soup , I then spent four days In gale-force whether waves coming right across the boat from the outer wall landing on the other side of the inner wall , the surg was so bad I had to put big chains on as springs so many ideas about covering your warps with plastic didn't work almost down to my last of any kind of rope at all on the boat , and by my self I put big chains from my second bower, from the big ballads slung down then a warp on to it then to the boat , the surg was more than 6 feet racing up and down the outer wall , no room in the inner harbour and tired out day and night for four days until it subsided.

Iana as far as the ladder goes tell him Option One: to wear a harness and tie himself off Option two: "Hi, my name is Steve and I am single". Oh and if he does not want to Option One: go sailing with you soon instead Option two: wants to continue his engineering work well "Hi, my name is Steve and I am single". I am kidding the fact you tell him off for stupid stuff shows you care, I just do it unsupervised and well injure myself so I own my own crutches and have the cellphone in a pouch attached to the dog so I don't break it again and he will come when called, last time he ran just to return with a ball for me (they make him happy). Also don't give up on welding, when you can make something or put something back together well enough you don't need marinas or anything else in the destinations you have more options :) good luck for the New Year. William as an engineer you will want everything perfect but don't spend all your time on the build and not enjoy sailing together, Safe is better than mm perfect.
