She did THE QUIET MAN already. I suggested DONOVAN'S REEF (1963) - Patrick has a bit part in that, and it has great scenery being shot on Kauai. It's a South Seas Christmas rom/com. And let's not forget HATARI! (1962) - his other movie with an exclamation mark in the title - shot on location in the old Tanganyika, East Africa, and he did most all his own stunts with those wild animals.

Great movie. 3 beautiful women here, Maureen O'Hara, Yvonne De Carlo and a young Stephanie Powers. You should see pictures of Yvonne De Carlo in the 1940's when she was young - absolutely beautiful. A good western. I'd highly recommend "Big Jake" - with O'Hara and Patrick Wayne again, and add in Richard Boone as an excellent bad guy.

@@bigsteve6200 I'm surprised Island in the Sky wasn't thrown in there. You actually get to see a few scenes where the Duke emotes panic and loss, which don't happen often. Plus you get some Andy Devine comic relief and the first appearance of James Arness in his illustrious career.

Dawn Marie, you were correct in your assessment of Yvonne DeCarlo as the most beautiful woman you have ever seen. She was named the Most Beautiful Woman in a contest in the 50's, and she maintained her beauty for many years to come. And she even kept her beauty with green make-up in her TV role as Lily Munster on the show "The Munsters", in the mid-60's. "McLintock" was a favorite on TV during the 60's and 70's, so happy you gave it a "Best Movie Ever" rating.

Old Tucson Studios was the first western studio set, built in 1939. It's been used to film over 500 movies and television shows, including Rio Bravo (1959), El Dorado (1966), Tombstone, Joe Kidd, Winchester '73, and Three Amigos.

J.W.'s son Patrick Wayne also had a bit part that same year in DONOVAN'S REEF (1963), wherein J.W. teamed up again with Lee Marvin (a.k.a. Liberty Valance), but this time on a South Pacific Island (It's pretty funny as well - a Rom/Com with great scenery). The boy got mad because he thought he was being given Charity with the job offer - just silly Pride. This plot is basically another retelling of Shakespeare's "The Taming of The Shrew".

One John Wayne comedy we missed out on, Mel Brooks reportedly tried to recruit him to play the Waco Kid in Blazing Saddles. Brooks' initial idea was that Sheriff Bart would be teamed up with a real cowboy icon. The story goes that John Wayne loved the script and even said he'd be first in line to see it, but felt it wouldn't be right for his image. Gene Wilder got the part after campaigning for it, and of course he changed the dynamic somewhat. Wayne did make some other comedies. The one that comes to mind first is North to Alaska, with Ernie Kovacs. It's a romantic mix-up and gold mining.

The Indian chief friend of Mclintock was an Australian actor namedi Michael Pate. He was seen in a large number of westerns back in the day.

The nincompoop in the glasses was Strother Martin, he was the horse trader in True Grit. Mrs Warrens daughter Alice is John Wayne's actual daughter.

Dawn, it is good to see you enjoying another good John Wayne movie. Bonus points for having Yvonne De Carlo and Maureen O'Hara.

A great movie. Very enjoyable to see John Wayne. "Need to keep the fiery women in line." 😂

Most action and stunts in John Wayne's movies were choreographed by him. He was also a great horse wrangler and armorer (handling guns).
