Holmgang is the one skill i use a macro for to stop the annoying effect of it ending if the target you chain dies.

Indeed, it's certainly not a bad idea. Personally I've had too many cases where I didn't mash the macro hard enough, what with how they don't worth with spell queueing, that I just prefer to target myself and then Holmgang! It's deeply enough ingrained that I even target myself when using other tank invulns! 🤣

Holmgang ends early if you're targeting something when you use it and it dies. That explains around 40% of the times I've died despite using it. (The other 60% are pressing it slightly too late and dying between using the skill and getting the buff)

Yup! And I can at least say for some players if they use a macro to make it target themselves, that 40% is replaced with "I pressed the button but the macro said no" 😂

I really appreciate the tips regarding defensive mitigation order - it's definitely the aspect of tanking that I'm always scratching my head when I occasionally play one. Funny story time: I don't know how it happened, but I managed to get Warrior up to level 80 during Shadowbringers... without knowing Mythril Tempest even existed. It wasn't until I was tanking a dungeon with a friend, and I made an off hand comment about it feeling rough having to do the Storms Eye combo to get the damage buff first and just spamming Overpower for the whole pull, that they mentioned it had a combi action. It just wasn't on my bar & I don't remember every having seen it at all!

Hmm it was an action that was suddenly added in shadowbringers and was added as a level 40 action out of the blue, so if you were already above that level with warrior in stormblood, that would probably explain it! 😁

ive been War main since i maxed all classes at 60 back in HW, loved warrior so much. right now im testing tenacity given it also affects self heals and i do a lot od soloing on my warrior. soloing is less about DPS and more about surviving while strategically using burst to bypass insta kill mechanics. prioritizing crit pretty much left me with no tenacity on gear anyways so that was a bust. i never used DH because in the past our burst was all in fell cleave with guaranteed DH and more DH doesnt increase its damage. while reviewing skill speed to see if i could get 1 more hit into my bloodwhetting i saw how much DH affected dps with so little and SS was not getting me any good threshhold so i ditched all my SS for DH lol

As of mid endwalker, all attacks with guaranteed direct hits gain an increased damage bonus from direct hit instead. 😊 Tenacity does instead increase healing done, but so does determination! The more important value when soloing things, when looking at tenacity is the damage reduction it provides, but it is usually not the deciding factor! 😊
