This guide was mainly worked on during the time leading up to the 7.1 patch, so some of the tooltips might look a bit wrong! For accuracy, here are the changes associated with 7.1: Adloquium and Succor and their upgrades all cost 100 MP less than before (1000 -> 900) Esuna is now instant cast. Technically these things change nothing practically for you!

Small little dungeon tip I have for scholars; I like pre-casting an adloquium on the tank AND myself. Once my tank's shield is beaten down, I'll cast deployment tactics on myself to instantly spread another shield to the tank, with no DPS loss! Might as well use the cooldown if you have it instead of letting it sit in dungeons!
@CaetsuChaijiCh4 күн бұрын
That's a good one yes! 😁 The main reason I rarely get it done is that personally I often rely on swiftcast to just get one of them off when the tank goes speed! 😂

@@CaetsuChaijiChyeahh while I like this idea in theory, in practice the tank zooms ahead and I'll have no time to pull this off. Not worth falling behind the tank, being there to Art of War the last pack asap is more important than a little bit of extra shield.
@CaetsuChaijiCh4 күн бұрын
@trance1215 exactly, that's sort of my issue usually as well, but if you have the time to set it up! 😁

A great ressource to learn healing by the book - and listen to the whispers of the pinkest fairy.

After setting up my hotbar on Scholar and being terrified of "Oh lord, I really have to think about when anything is used because this triggers that and requires this and thinking ahead and it's longer cooldown" This video has helped a lot, into knowing a little when to time things, what priorities are, what is more useful to use on what. Thank you a lot. I'm primarily an AST healer, I've levelled Sage and they're very fun, and I used to play scholar back in Heavensward days but... Astro always called me more. But after a sick glam I've set up for Scholar I wanna use it more :P

There is a niche use for using Recitation on Succor - if you're taking multiple very heavy raidwides in succession which will necessitate GCD healing no matter what, if you get the full value of the initial heal+the entire shield being eaten Succor (I believe) has the highest AOE potency of any Recitation action, since it's 200 (healing) + 200*1.8 = 360 shields, for a total of 560 potency of healing, compared to Indom's 400 and edging out a crit Aldo's 540 potency spread shield. It does cost a GCD compared to Indom, but if you'd have to have GCD healed anyways, it can help, plus if necessary it means you can also pump out extra healing by using a normal AF Indom on top of the Reci'd Succor. I'll admit this is a extremely specific use (and so probably better to not be in an introductory guide like this) and Indom should always be your go-to AOE Recitation option, but I'm thinking specifically of moments like the Bombarian Special/Brutal Impacts from M3S.
@CaetsuChaijiCh4 күн бұрын
That is true, and I was exactly thinking that in those niche situations, you could use indom and also succor and then whether it is actually worth it to spend recitation on succor specifically starts to get confusing! Since that aetherflow saved on indom could be used for something else and the list goes on! But Indeed, that is a specific case where succor wins! 😊

Thank you, I've apparently been using Seraph inefficiently for over a year, so I very much appreciate this.

That's pretty common I think! It's a very weird cooldown to use! 😊 I'm glad you found it helpful!

its funny how well timed this came out. I actually started leveling scholar a couple days ago and made it to level 74 already. However, i was getting overwhelmed with how fast skills were unlocking and the clutter on the hotbars.

Haha that makes sense. Scholar is the only job with so many buttons that I don't even have a mount button bound on it! I hope my guide helped a bit with the chaos! 😊

For me, I removed Physick from my hotbar since Scholar has so many other, better healing options.

This guide is amazing! I love how thorough you are, and since there is content still run at 50-90 it's nice to see the important changes for each. One special thing I think is important for Scholar, is how powerful it is when given healing boosts. Either from itself or from teammates. The fact that any shield given is based on a heal makes it doubly useful (or triple when it comes to a crit adlo shield.) 20% healing, for example means a 10000k adlo is a 12000 heal, but then the shield is also that much stronger, and if a crit, then even more so. It's why, though overkill in most content, with a few heal buffs, a Scholar can shield entire health bars. Personally, that is why I love the heal duo of Sage+Scholar. The healing buffs and utility are fun to work with. Edit: Recitation+Emergency+Adlo can full heal a dps or healer to full if you *really* need someone at full.

I do love scholar, and i honestly think its a better starter healer than white mage with less newbie traps (freecure, using holy only for stun). It's probably been my favourite healer throughout dawntrail, even more so with seraphism as the real panic button
@CaetsuChaijiCh4 күн бұрын
Yeah the bigger concern for me in regards to starting with Scholar as your first healer is you can end up getting quite far with your pet doing all the work, so you might not get the fundamentals! But as long as a new healer is paying attention, I'm sure they will learn it with time! 😁
@shinywhimsicott30474 күн бұрын
As a WHM main,I agree with a lot of this. Learning the basics with any healer is fine but I feel like SCH teaches much better healer habits. Mitigation,pre-casting and watching enemy cast bars ect.

Something of a Scholar dabbler myself. Many people sleep on Emergency Tactics and fail to use the concept of rolling your cooldown here. Cast it? 15 second duration with 15 seconds to recast. It essentially is always up and functional and acts as a more beneficial way to keep Concitation/Succor being more relevant, albeit still useless, and a boon to Adlo since I don't even keep physick on my bar anymore.

great guide :) i was just wondering, when adloqium crits, is the galvanise shield itself also bigger? i know it has catalyze added on crit, but i wasnt sure if it also had a bigger base shield because the heal itself was a crit, and it scales with how much you healed for. i was wondering this because of recitation > adloqium > deployment tactics. if it does work like that, then the shield would be bigger than just using adloqium on your whole party even though catalyze isnt spread by deployment tactics, because the original shield was a critical galvanise. no worries if you cant answer, i confused myself just writing this honestly haha
@CaetsuChaijiCh4 күн бұрын
Both shields take the exact hp healing done by adloquium, multiplies it accordingly and makes a shield, so the crit making the initial heal makes both shields bigger 😁
