Notice the language he used in the video when he said how NSU gave him a chance instead of following the “latest trend” and the shoutout he gave to coaches already putting in the work. The HBCU football coaching community ain’t really feeling this celebrity hire run and letting it be known every chance they get. I love it!

@RAM Transport LLC Good exposure for those schools that the superstar picks. JSU and the famous dude has only inflated JSU’s brand. The SWAC all star game features two teams that beat JSU, yet that game won’t be in the flagship ESPN. But i bet if JSU made it, it would’ve gotten flexed to ESPN. So that exposure argument is trickier than we think it is.

What’s the problem with having previous NFL players coach HBCUs!? If they bring competitive playing and fans back, what’s the loss? It’s one thing if they coach and the teams suck, but what is the loss if they use their names and personal brands to advance the lives of these young men and the schools they represent all while winning and playing great football?

@mister oblivious because it’s taking opportunities away from coaches already established in the SWAC that have to work YEARS for this jobs. As much as black people talk about privilege nowadays, that is Rich privilege these celebrity coaches are flexing. I’m not saying it’s the worst thing ever and doesn’t have its benefits, but listen to what Coach Odoms said in that interview. He’s saying GIVE THE LITTLE GUY A CHANCE! These dudes have put in blood, sweat and tears to the HBCU schools; reward them for the fruits of their labor not take the rug from under them for an outsider looking for a stepping stone experience.

@@trebor06 The idea that these guys are using hbcus as stepping stones is a long stretch. There are TWO.....TWO coaches with celebrity status. These other coaches are not being blackballed or anything. I’m all for giving the Lil guy a chance and making sure people are not being blocked out of opportunities. But hbcu athletics are not competitive as it should be but these guys can bring some fire back to hbcu football.

SWAC conference need to get out of that PRIME SPLASH HIRE hype before it is too late. The Prime-Time Effect!!!! You not going to be able to Win 4 game and make almost $250,000 a year, The pressure is on now you got to be able to coach and recruit and build a HBCU program!!!! With the new NCAA rules coming down the pipe, It's a lot of pressure on HBCU, How do you think Alabama is paying for all those fancy facility they got!!. OK he did not win the press conference. I know he is a good coach but needs to work on his press conference skills, and NSU needs to work on the optics this was not their best day. AD didn't have on the school's colors, coach kept fading in and out. Not the best ,
