I actually really like how he sang the first song. You can tell he really meant every word, could imagine him singing this to his baby, which might explain why he sang it so mellow, kinda like a quiet lullaby except for that last bit.

Great job. I’m glad the judges got Dawson to focus on his singing instead of ‘hiding behind’ his guitar playing. He plays great, but was nervous with the first song. I agree that he played it a bit safe. But you have to show who you are when you are amongst the thousands who audition. Well done, Dawson. :) 😊❤

Okay, here is my take. First, a great name for a country singer (or a front man of a rock group). Second, this kid is raw. During the first song, he looked at his guitar the whole time and failed to make contact with his listeners. Katey was spot on in her analysis. When he stopped playing and just sang, I could see his potential.

Okay wow! I think Dawson is clear top 10 for me at least! I’m so obsessed with his tone! His voice cuts through so perfectly. It’s a perfect mix of twang and soul! It’s his choices! The way he will sit on a tone and let soul and rasp lead is so pleasing to the ear! Also, he just sits right in the pocket. I was so hooked in on the first note. This is country soul and I could listen to his storyteller voice all day. They said calm and safe but I was hooked on every word he just sang and the guitar playing elevated it 10 fold! I get levels and showing different ranges to your voice, but he did that in numerous subtle ways in his first song! The second was just icing on the cake for me!
