When my husband and I (both huge Trekkies) got married earlier this year, my vows included the line "I promise to join with you, and stand with you, against all who would oppose us". It seemed the honourable thing to do.

You're one of two or three people I saw in the comments to incorporate at least some part of this wedding into their own. I was going to wager that someone had done just that but I see I don't need to because you proved me correct.

I love this wedding. And I think the tradition of having to defend one another from friends and family is very symbolic since many married couples have to essentially do that in their first year of marriage. You're not truly married until you stand up for your partner against outsiders.

I had to do it in my 1st marriage & we were always arguing because of his mom & divorced so in my 2nd marriage before we even discussed the wedding, all thru our dating he knew I'd "never" live near in laws & family again , & not just his so it wasn't a surprise to him as I said, he knew where I stood on that issue because it was talked about alot ! Even more than 100 years ago the 'obey' thing was on its last legs. Laura Ingalls Wilder writes about it when she's writing about her wedding, since it was still somewhat common then and she wasn't willing to say it. Her husband and the minister both agreed and had no problem with not having that. By now that tradition has been dead for at least three generations. I've never met anyone alive who had that. It never occured to me it might be alive somewhere (in some rural southern US place I guess?)

Klingons- For such a fearsome warrior race, they can be really romantic.

I actually came here planning to comment on that. As an old-fashioned warrior race, you would think the Klingons would be misogynistic as all hell. But in fact they are quite chivalrous : )

I dont know much about them, but from what I have seem about klingons, the women are also fighters so why would there be misogeny

@@ayseakbas111 I only meant at first glance. Once, you actually spend some time with them, you figure they are not sexist at all.

I love this episode! Just after the Federation and the Klingons drove the Dominion and Cardassians from Deep space Nine, bringing much needed morale, Worf and Dax finnally get married Klingon style! Jazia went thru hell from General Martok's wife just to be accepted to her family. But, it was worth it!

I always love watching weddings in other cultures (western weddings are so boring). I think the writers did a very good job of fabricating a unique set of traditions that made sense for a culture like the Klingons.

Stop with the racist Orientalism. You've never seen a Western wedding. You watched a TV show so you think you know what weddings are like. There is absolutely nothing worse than a oikophobe who hates their own culture. There's German weddings, French weddings, Italian weddings, American Southern weddings, all with their own distinct traditions and practices. Go move to India if you love your idea of what their culture is so much. They would absolutely hate someone like you.

I love these episodes of deep space nine from where Worf and Jadzia Dax first met and eventually fell in love. Not to mention they went thru Klingon tradition and rituals to finnally tie the knot, including beating the crap out of each other! Lol. And General Martok's wife put Jadzia thru hell to see if she was worthy enough to join her family. But she prevailed. Now, where will they spend their honeymoon?! Good question! Lol.
