It is true and can seem unusual but kids can go from having a serious conversation that they really find interesting to a split second later playing with dolls and toy cars. They can handle more than we give them credit for as they don't have any prejudgements or anything as you aren't born with them. There are obviously some subjects which could be distressing though. Like kids when they hear about death worry about their parents. They worry that they are going to die. One example was my 6 year old sister (I'm 21) after a brief Q/A about death that she started, ask how this certain someone died to which my mother replied "of old age". This made her worried that her father is gonna die soon because he's "old". Sex and stuff like that is nothing compared to the complexities of the death talk. That is a tricky beast. I mean it's evident that even many adults can't handle the concept of death. When it comes to talking to kids I think death is THE trickiest subject. There's so many variables like emotions vs knowledge and truth to consider. Well. That and Santa.

I've watched a lot of lets plays and stuff where people talk about their live among other stuff and I've noticed that a lot of people espesially in America don't speak to their kids about death and that they didn't even fully undestand death when they were like 6. I find that weird, here it's totally normal and I for one have fully undestood death pretty much since I can remember and if a kid asked me about it I would tell him/her no matter how young...

I never got fed the truth, or if I did it was totally random and kind of confusing. Like I'd be so blindsided that I would just nod and then blank absolutely everything out. For example! My mum felt that while working on a castle for a school project, was a good time for a talk. So as I'm gluing rubber pigs and my littlest pet shop props to cardboard, she starts informing my younger sister and I about conjoined twins and how they happen. I don't know if the information she gave me was correct, I've since vacated the information from my memory.

8 is the right age for those talks yeah. Maybe even earlier. The sad reality is that if you don't tell your children about all of those things and about consent and what sex is etc, it means that if GOD FORBID someone abuses them then they don't either A) know they're being sexually absurd, or B) know that they're not supposed to be sexually abused. I've heard horror stories of this happening so many times. The reality is that we live in an awful world where oftentimes family members are the abusers, and by shying away from the sex talks till puberty, we're making ourselves blind to any damage that is being done to our children because they won't have the words to explain what has been done to them or know if that was right or wrong.
