My Dad worked days, nights, and weekends when my brother, sister, and I were little. Eventually, he got promoted and worked sixty-plus hours weekly with only Sundays off. He never showed emotion. He just provided the best he could for his family. Flash forward and I'm in my forties, and my Mom was told she had cancer. This was the first time I saw my Dad show emotion. Up until that day he was a machine. It was a wake-up call for me to understand his sacrifices and commitments to our family, always putting himself last. Now I realize this is what it takes "To Be A Man"

@@austinshaver1991 I barely saw him when I was young. He would come home, shower, eat dinner with us, and go to his part-time night job. On weekends he did construction. After that, he left for work at 4 AM and would be home around 6 PM for dinner. I honestly don't think he had enough time to think let alone show emotion. I've always felt bad he had to work that hard to support our family. I've never wanted children of my own, and I wonder if it is because of what I witnessed growing up. I also did not meet my wife until I was 45 so kids were out even if we wanted them.

My Dad was a farmer and without question he worked his ass off all the the time. 4 a clock in the morning till he came in for dinner an planting season was go back out after dinner to work the fields. We as kids would go with mom out to Wyoming every summer ( to visit family, her family) and dad stayed home and worked the farm. The only vacation he ever got would be to drive the car out to get us spend a couple days then drive back to NY. It was a great life for us as kids but it puts into perspective what he did for his family, as a 60 year old I admired him and loved him so much for doing that for so long.

I played this for my husband of 15 years and then asked him if he felt this way and he said, "Every single day." I was blown away. I had no idea he felt like this. LADIES, if we are contributing to our men feeling this way then we *have* to step up our game. They need much more appreciation and understanding from us. LOVED the reaction guys!! 🎶🔥💖😎

You are correct, but when we come home and see a dirty dish in the sink, we need to look at the ceiling fan and the baseboards that we overlook that have been cleaned. Once I was single and seen what women in my life have done that goes under the radar, I'll never forget that and I tell all of the men I'm around to open their eyes.

after the military i didnt have many friends back home anymore as i had been gone for years and i had left the brothers i had made except for their online presence. i turned to alcohol and didnt have anyone to talk to about my demons and the pain i felt every day. my parents and siblings didnt understand why i chose to drink and be antisocial but music kept me going, dax's dear alcohol really hit me hard and then to be a man hit me harder. to all my brothers out there fighting each day with demons, youre NOT alone and dont you think for a second that you ever are.

My first deployment was 2008 fast forward to 2018 I finally broke. I had bottled up so much I broke. And had no one there who I talked to or who understood. As a civilian... I can relate too. I used to never believe I would ever feel depression. I used to be so oblivious and just be like "It only happens to others, it won't ever happen to me." I even questioned why anyone would ever wanna kill themselves and even feel depressed in the first place. Boy was I wrong... life can break you down in intricate ways that you never expect at all.

Imagine this- Your wife walks into your home office with that look on her face...the one that says she wants to talk about something serious. She closes the door, drowning out the sound of the kids playing in the background. You have been struggling with finances, having bought a new house 2 years prior on a tight budget but then the cost of living increasing of 20-30% over that same time span has eaten away your savings and you are living month to month, barely making it. She proceeds to tell you that since you are the man of the house and are responsible for the finances that if we lose our house, she is putting all of that on you. You already make 6 figures and work 10+ hours a day at your desk but she tells you she doesn't care how you do it, that you need to find a way to make more money so that we can afford to stay in this nice big house in this nice neighborhood. You thoughts go to the fact that you already don't see your wife and kids enough, that your work already consumes your thoughts even when you are not at your desk and are wondering how in the hell you are going to have the drive or energy to even find another job, let alone perform at the job. Then when she leaves you go back to your computer and KZbin happens to be open from music you were listening to in the background while working and at the top of your suggested list is "To Be a Man". I had never heard that song before, never listened to Dax much, but Alexa must have been listening to our conversation. 10 seconds into the song, seeing that dad crying in the driveway before sucking it up to go hug his daughter.. I lost it. I was a sobbing mess through the whole song. Exactly how I feel every day yet I can not go to my wife and tell her or else I will be told I am being selfish or looking for pity and then she will rattle off all that she does around the house until I just nod and tell her to stop, that I get it and then bottle up my feelings once again. This cycle can't continue. It's going to be the death of me, one way or another.

Y'alls critique and reactions to this song have been the most honest and straightforward that I've seen of any reaction to this song! Thank you for your breakdown of the topic and lyrics. Much appreciated, from a Woman/Wife/Mother that has been able to stay at home with our children and take care of the traditional gender roles....while my husband works hard everyday to provide for all of us. I encourage my husband to tell me about his work, what's bothering him, and what he finds joy in as well. I realize our household is in the minority, but i sure as hell have never taken any of it for granted. I am not indifferent nor oblivious to how privileged our family has been all these years; especially in this economic, inflationary hell we've got in our country today. Thank you for throwing your reaction at us as it really is- reality.

I was always raised to keep my emotions in. I've never seen my dad cry at all and I'm in my 40's. I was taught to keep the pain in and keep moving. Work for what you have and don't ask anyone for any kind of help at all. I'm a Dad of 4 and they have never seen me cry or show emotion. If it gets bad for me I cry in the truck alone or in the shower as quiet as I can. It was how my generation was raised. Life's hard and mentally harder. With the way the world is now it feels like it's falling apart and us men who will continue forward no matter what and it's what this country needs but we also are human and have feelings. I work 60-70 hrs a week at a blue collar construction job to provide and then try to be a great dad and husband to my family and make sure they are good. I don't have a shoulder to lean on or an ear to hear my problems. Music like this is how I release and escape for 4 minutes at a time. I wish we would all in this world take care of each other regardless of race or religion. We are all HUMAN! All men out there please keep your head up cause you are loved and appreciated even if you never hear it.

There's no need for the pressure to provide for me anymore since it was never appreciated anyway. Working 18 hour days, 6 days a week, then coming home to cook dinner and clean house. I never got a single sign of appreciation until it was payday. Sometimes it is better off to be alone.

For my mom she had to both mom & dad. About 10mins after he found out my mom was pregnant w/me. What little self confidence I have is all me. Turn out I am 30 yrs with a 6 yrs old little girl doctors did blood work & behavioral classes she has mild case of autism. So here I am here researching on top on my 12 hour shift job because I know people will try to break her confidence because she has a disability. While trying to keep that stone armor on. I know many men can relate but something always finds it way around that stone armor at sometimes when you are all alone.

I hear you. I have a 21 year old son with intractable epilepsy. I can't tell you how many hours I've logged on medial websites trying to figure out what's the best way to help him. The technology required for surgery to be effective for him just isn't there at this point. And yeah, I'm "mom and dad" too. Husband bailed on the family shortly after we all were in a catastrophic car accident and after 6 years of chasing girlfriends who decided he wasn't for them; he committed suicide. And because we were technically still married; myself and his son were the next of kin. My son was 15 at the time. He helped me clean out the apartment. So yeah, when Dax talks about "generational curse" and what does it really mean to be a man? That's a very relevant question right now! The best thing you can do for your daughter is to teach her resilience; because on top of the rest of the world, the disability alone is going to break her. Both myself and my son have to constantly tell each other to "get back up and keep going". Life is managed, it isn't cured!

As a man that relies on the work you do I just want to say thank you and I appreciate the long hours you work on the road to not only provide for your life but to transport the goods that we all rely on. Thanks brother. Without hardworking me like you this country would fail.

On top of just started a KZbin channel and started streaming on twitch and running a discord TikTok and IG for the channels.

I’m living in a studio, it’s 400sf paying 1600$ a month. It includes all utilities thankfully. Horrible location and tons of cockroaches, but it’s all I was able to afford 8 months ago. I now earn 85K a year and feel happy I’m finally moving out to somewhere probably around 2k but at least it will be an apartment and nicer. Life is hard in los Angles.

The bare minimum for a man to be a good man is to do three things love and cherish his wife. Raise his daughter to be a fine woman and to help make sure that she finds a good man to be with. Finally to make sure his son can stand on his two feet and handle the same pressure that he has been going through. This is humanity's curse people say that Adam wasn't cursed with anything after eating the fruit but he was he was cursed to not be cared about or cared for until after he's dead. This curse is passed on to all of us but this curse also makes us strong so that when shit hits the fan at least we can stand.

And they wonder why those of us in our 20's and 30's may still live with our parents. My home rent is through a family agreement, without that agreement my rent would be near $1,700 a month and I barely pull in $3,500 a month, pre tax wich is nearly 35%. Utilities, $200 a month, car insurance $250 a month, student loans $550 a month. Never mind groceries or gas for travel just for work. Just as an example. Without the family agreement, I'd be on the streets with no home and no means to cook. I'm 33, and living on my own due to having a resourceful family and upbringing.

(Armando) Yup was stationed in Homestead. All those houses are all the same.. LOL. You speak of rent... my son (my youngest) is paying $2600 a month for a small 2/2 apartment. Only slum type apartments are $1600 a month.. 10 years ago when Hubby and I bought our house (3/2) on 5 acres in the very last of the "good" market, our mortgage is less than $1k a month at 2.7%. It's sad my son will not see that opportunity, and he's 30 and in the Air Guard. I was always a civilian in uniform since I went in later than most, and retired at 47. My job was also one that has nothing on "The outside". So I started my own business. (btw, Bud lite is just another version of Clydesdale p!ss.....)

16:19 There was a recent study done that documented how the 22/day is inaccurate, it's more accurately somewhere between 28-36 Veteran suicides a day. 22 is inaccurate because of the way suicides are ruled and whether or not they can identify if the person served. 28-36 Veteran suicides a day. Atleast one an hour. Call & check on your brothers.

I think it's pretty messed up that the US fought Britain for their independence because they didn't want to pay Britain taxes, yet I'm pretty sure we pay more in taxes today than they did back then. We need to abolish taxes, period. I'm pretty sure people would be more than willing to donate to the government for what we need. The government doesn't need to forcibly take our money in the form of taxes.
