I couldn’t help but think of our current times while reading today’s passages. There is a lot of fear and rebellion in God’s people in these days. I want to cry out, “don’t forget what happened to the spies who provoked fear in the people! Don’t forget what happened when God’s people tried to go their own way!” Praise God we have Jesus! Someone to intercede for us like Moses did for them! Today’s reading encouraged me to ALWAYS look to God’s ways and God’s plans when things look bleak. Don’t fall for the blown up stories and doubt of what may be. Remember we have a powerful and merciful God who loves us and wants to be with us. I pray I will always be a believer who encourages with God’s word when times are hard and not be a fearful “spy” who freaks out and throws my hands up. I want to always call on God’s peace and be a light when it seems dark. Also, I LOVE that even in Moses’s time God gave a way for forgiveness for mistakes. What a merciful God! It really is about the heart and while we think we can hide that from others and even ourselves at times, we can’t hide that from God.

I noticed in chapter 14 that once they started complaining and grumbling, doubt , rebellion, ungratefulness, fear, and ultimately rebellion soon followed. What a lesson for us in that! I loved Moses’ heart for the people. He again pleas to the LORD on their behalf and God does relent BUT not without consequences for the people. My God shot came out of 14:18-19 where it says that the LORD is LONGSUFFERING, MERCIFUL, FORGIVING but also JUST. They were so undeserving and so are we. So thankful for how much He loves us!

The Lord reminds the people, through Joshua and Caleb, that He is with them and not to fear their enemies. How easy it is to forget this. We need others to remind us & we need to remind others. Psalm 90:17 is my prayer this morning, "Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!"

Several things here touched my heart. In 14:8 Caleb tells the people that if the Lord dights in them, they will be given the land, a good land. It always fills me with awe that the Lord might possibly choose to delight in humans who are so reliably fallible. He has forgiven them so many times, and He forgives us so many times. I am amazed that He would ever find us delightful, yet He does! He delights in our imperfect obedience. Thank You Father! I also love that God makes provision for immigrants (sojourners among you) to be treated with fairness and to have a way to access Him and develop a relationship with Him. He specifically mentioned them several times, explaining how they fit into His plan. And then in the Psalm, we are brought to a sober consideration of our brief lives compared to God's eternality and omnipotence. Finally, I loved what you said,"If you don't bring your fears and doubts to God, they will drive you away from God!" Powerful truth! God is not upset by my fear, but He wants me to turn to Him when I am afraid. He's where the joy is, after all! ❤

My God shot was the fact that the “new law” he added after their grumbling about not wanting to enter the land, was to add wine to most of the offerings. They found the large bunch of grapes in the land of Canaan when the 12 spies went and I believe God added the wine offering to remind the people of their lack of trust in Gods plan. ❤

Thank You that not one sin is hidden from You so that on the cross every sin has been forgiven and washed away! God reminded me to trust Him...The Israelites rebelled and faced consequences when they listened to and trusted man's (spies) words rather than God's (His promise)...This was probably like a test for them? as it is written the Lord had instructed Moses to send out the spies.. # Peoples's words give us fear, God's words give us Faith 😇 Godshot: God reminds us of who He is to help us trust Him more...even after all the rebellion God doesn't reject them completely but ends with "I am the Lord your God", He also gives the tassel as a reminder

Wow, rebellion, forgiveness, Sabbath laws, punishment and consequences of sins! The Lord replied, “I have forgiven them, as you asked. Nevertheless, as surely as I live and as surely as the glory of the Lord fills the whole earth, not one of those who saw my glory and the signs I performed in Egypt and in the wilderness but who disobeyed me and tested me ten times- not one of them will ever see the land I promised on oath to their ancestors. No one who has treated me with contempt will ever see it. Numbers 14:20‭-‬23 NIV

God is the God of Satisfaction. “Satisfy us each morning with Your unfailing love, so that we may sing for joy for the rest of our lives” (Ps 90:14). Indeed, Ps 90:14-17 would be good to memorize….But singing for joy is a response to living out the hardship of “the human condition”: we long for God’s enduring presence as though we are homesick (Ps 90:1 says “Through all generations, You have been our home,” and in Ps 90:5 “You sweep people away like dreams that disappear.”). In fact, some of our “children see Your glory” (Ps 90:16) before we ever had hoped that they would; they are “swept away.” And yet, Moses-who has seen sin and rebellion and misery and tragedy, cries out: “Give us gladness in proportion to our former misery! Replace the evil years with good.” (90:15). Shakespeare’s Romeo asked “Wilt thou leave me so unsatisfied?” No! God fulfills the longing of our hearts with the love we truly desire-an unfailing love that we may sing of, every morning.

Amen to that. I could see & know that the Israelites were disobedient and wandered in the desert for 40 years as it was mentioned in Hebrews 4:9, and again in Psalm 95:10 where it says that "For forty years I was disgusted with that generation, And said they are a people who err in their heart, And they do not know my ways. Therefore I swore in My anger, They certainly shall not enter My rest.” Aside from that that would be my "God Shot." I'm glad that I wasn't born in Biblical times where the Israelites had to wander in the desert for 40 years. It took them 40 years to get it right. This was also featured in the Spoken Gospel episode on KZbin 🙂✝️💒🤟👍🙏.

The Israelites had a low concept of God, disbelief can ruin a person or even an entire nation as painfully illustrated here. When someone does not trust God, the result is the inability to face life's challenges, and you and I can demonstrate confidence in the power of God. In chapter 15 he teaches us that God's purposes will always be fulfilled, and violations of God's laws always bring punitive consequences. That is why we must obey God's law because complying with the law brings tremendous benefits to our lives.

2:30 To think Caleb & Joshua were the only Adults that came from Egypt who got to enter and live in the Promised Land. After reading about the Levites these past days, (Numbers 4:46-49 & 8:23-25) we know that the Levites serving in the Tabernacle had to be at least 25-30 years old. We know that Eleazar made it to the Promised Land (Joshua 19:51). Chances are that Ithamar made it too.

The people feared because of a bad report from the 10 spies. In 2 Timothy 1: 7, it says God doesn't give us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind. Fear ultimately comes from a lack of trust in God to take care of us and do what He says He will do. God could have done away with the people, but Moses once again intercedes for them, reminding God in 14: 8 that He 'is slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, forgiving iniquity and transgression, but he will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, to the third and the fourth generation.’ God relents (MERCY), but sin always has a consequence. Except for Caleb & Joshua, those 20 years old & up won't see the promised land, plus they will wander in the wilderness for 40 years. What a shame. Consequence for sin is also seen in 15: 32-36. Someone breaks the Sabbath & the punishment was death by stoning. I'm so glad we concluded with reading Moses' prayer in Psalm 90.

I have a question about the levels of sin. I thought all sin was seen as the same - is this where the Catholic church gets their idea of different kinds/levels of sin? I grew up Catholic but over time have learned how the teachings can be very far from scripture. No offense to anyone, this is my own journey and I love all Catholics despite all I've learned (many family are still proclaiming Catholics). I'm just searching for more clarity on this sin topic now after what TLC pointed out. Can anyone help explain? Did Jesus change all this when he died?
