@@KT0000 that's a stupid reason to not get the surgery. If it weakens your back, it's only temporary, but once your muscles heal, a person should have 100% strength again. If not, do some exercises to build strength! duh! Stop being so lazy, certain people.

@@AndreR10R9 I just found out I have a L5 s1 disc bulge to the left. I have back pain when I sit but no leg pain. Do u have a disc bulge/ back pain or only leg pain. Also I only hurt when I sit not when I'm trying to sleep. Did you heal up completely? If so how long did it take and what did u do to heal ? Please help 😊🙃 also my back used to get tight when I lay down for bed but since I started back exercises 4 weeks ago. It doesn't get tight when I lay down only when I drive or sit. Are u 100% healed or do u still have back pain? Did u get surgery? Are you having any complications after surgery?

Thanks so much mate. I’m heading for mine in just under 10 hours and can’t believe i’m only finding this video now. I’m 24 and exactly the same except mine is centralised and it’s now running down both legs. I’m fit and occurred during a skating accident.

Thank you for this. My wife is having this surgery this afternoon, and I’m trying to prepare for her recovery to help however I can. What may be great is that we just got a Purple mattress that she hasn’t even had a chance to sleep on, hopefully it provides relief over our previous 11 year old spring mattress.

I live in Australia and have been through this myself. I originally injured my back in my late teens lifting heavy boxes and it took months to settle down. 10yrs later I was doing some work in the garden & without warning I got a tremendous pain from my lower back, through the left buttock & down the left leg to my ankle. It was excruciating. Within hours it was extending up my spine to the base of my neck. When I tilted my head forward the pain shot like a lightening bolt all the way to my ankle. Long story short, it got worse & worse over the next few months until I too was completely incapacitated. My partner had to dress me entirely, couldn't put on shoes or socks or even a shirt unassisted. I tried all manner of treatment but nothing worked, if anything it made it worse, so I finally was sent to an orthopaedic surgeon. I was in hospital at 7am the next morning and stayed overnight. When I awoke after the surgery it was nothing short of miraculous. Not a twitch of pain, nothing. Returned to work the following week. 5yrs later I am still pain free but the memory of those agonizing months lingers still.

Thanks for your reply. I have had pain off and on for 5 years, and in the past 8 weeks it got worse till I could not function. I limped for so long it's like learning to walk normal again. But the pain in my buttock and calf isn't nearly as bad as it was and I have a good bit of numbness. I have found that walking does ease the pain. I know my back and leg are weak, since I probably let it go too far. Today, day 6, I'm ok, walking in this 60* weather. The pain isn't bad today. I'm only taking pain med maybe once a day. I'm keeping a positive outlook since I'm not in that much pain. Thanks for sharing your experience,

I just got the same exact surgurey L5 s1 right side discectomy. Mine hurt so bad I could barely move, sit, stand, sleep without almost collapsing. The doc said he normally takes them out in 1 or 2 pieces, when he opened me up he was in shock how herniated it was. Took him 7 pieces to get it all out. But after the surgurey I felt so great after I walked straight into my work which I had been out of for 3 months prior and told them I'll be returning to work soon. I felt like a million bucks even just hours after I had it done.

I've tried everything possible and nothing is working, tens, heat and exercises. I've had two epidural as well and it did nothing at all.im pretty much reliant on muscle relaxation tablets and strong cocodamol tablets. I'm bricking it .but the pain is to much now,I've had it for 14 month's now.

I'm going to get my surgery in a month and a half. If I can start to get movement and sensation back I probably will cancel. Hope all is good now.

Thanks for this! I know it’s been a few years but well wishes for you and your family if you’re reading this :) Yesterday (2/1/2019) just had a L4-L5 fusion surgery (obviously not quite the same thing) I never had sciatica pains and I’m sorry you had to suffer for so long from that pain! I did however have a fractured lamina snd vertebra for god knows how long it was terrible pain that would intensify with heavy lifting or driving extended periods of time I had no idea that I could have been exacerbating my condition! Thankfully I had both an MRI and CT scans done that let my spine surgeon Dr. Rasouli at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles know that there was an apparent fracture. I’m really sore now but I think my progress will be remarkable in the next few weeks I’m looking forward to being more active again! Hope that the surgery was able to help you get back on your feet and running again without re-herniation! Best of luck

I had the same exact injury, L5, herniated 16 cm. and more right. I went to chiropractor, physical therapy, acupuncturist. Finally after 6 months of no relief, had the microdiscectomy. Unfortunately, I also had a condition called "drop foot". I have a relative who is a doctor who kept stressing I get the surgery to possibly save the nerve giving me drop foot, because it can be permanent. It's been a year this month since the original injury, and 5 months since surgery. I cannot say the surgery helped. Honestly. But I am glad for your post and others posts. It's good to know I'm not alone out there.

Hi Jacob!I found your page on my KZbin search. I am 5 days post op from my L5-S1 Microdiscectomy. I am 25 years old and I first experienced my sciatic pain when I was 15. Back then I had an MRI and have done conservative treatment for the past ten years. Fast forward to now I've had severe pain for three months... In the past it resolved within weeks. Im a gym rat and I'm sure the combination of doing barbell squats (130-140lbs as my top set....btw I'm barely 4'11" and I only weight 112lbs) with the addition that I'm also a Nurse in surgery caused me to get to this point. a normal shift is 12hrs but when I'm on call some of my days are 16hrs straight. If I wasn't on call I would go to the gym after work. The herniation was so bad 4/5 of my S1 nerve root was impinged. So I opted for the surgery. I also tried going to a chiropractor and it only got worse after that. It's nice seeing other people close to my age recovering from the same thing. My wedding is only 5 months away and I'm hoping to be healed by then. How long was it before you were able to workout? I miss lifting...

Very similar path but I had pain only when standing and I could only lay on my left side without. It went on like that for about six months and then it started feeling painful when I layed down in every position and gradually I was in pain in almost every position. I can't staighten up my back at all anymore and the pain is so bad that painkillers can't mitigate it at all so I'm scheduled for surgery soon. I've tried everything, acupuncture, chiropractic, infiltrations, physioterapy, electrotherapy, ozonoterapy. It started when I was 17 and now I'm 18 and I've had to use a walking stick for the last 6 months so I can't wait to get my surgery. I literally dream about it at night I can't wait to be able to sleep in my bed right now I have to sleep on a couch and it's getting really hard psychologically because I can't go out a lot because even with the crutch it's really painful I can't go out dancing I can't even have sex because every position is too painful for me to handle and I sleep a maximum of four hours per night all broken up in small bits I just can't wait to start living again

thanks for your shared, i wish i have watching your video early. My ex partner has been sciatic pain since 1 year. He has tired many different way as you did, and he has been taking pain killer everyday to deal with it. The pain getting worse since 5 months ago, he cant walk/ run/ sit. we both have had hard time in it then he left me(i havent be a good company/listener be with him to deal with this problem, being sick will make many different problem come to our life). However, after all, he will going to a mirco discectomy next week. he will get well soon. i an very happy for him and see him get back health and normal life. pray for him always. also i hope every one who has this problem or who surround you having it. both need to be patient and take time deal with it. Maybe you are thinking the discectomy is last option as what i thought, but i would like to say it should be first option to take. our normal life is basic on health body and metal. so yeh hope everyone health.

I feel no pain when im lying down but its a different story trying to walk. I am in pain after 5 minutes of walking. I even get pain in my growin area after walking too much and my foot gets more numb also. My surgery is on the 11th of July. Feeling nervous already, I hope this helps with the numbness in my foot.

Hi Jacob, thank you for sharing your story! I also watched your other videos and I'm curious about your daily activities for the first 3 months? I have been living with pain due to disc herniation at L4-L5 and L5-S1 for a year now. I took the conservative route initially, so I have tried everything from chiropractor, acupuncture, physical therapy, and even epidural injections (2 to be exact). However, the pain continues to date and my recent MRI showed that L4-L5 increased to 8 mm but the L5-S1 has reabsorbed. I decided that I will do the surgery because I am 24 years old and I want my life back. This problem won't be going away anytime soon and I do want to cause permanent nerve root damage by continuing to live this way. I am terrified of the surgery but also very hopeful. I work an 8-5 job and have been out for 3 months now, I was wondering if it is safe to go back to work 6 weeks after the surgery or should I wait 3 months? (my job involves sitting, standing, occasionally lifting or bending, but they will try to accommodate me if I go back) I have heard different things from different surgeons, which is why I am curious about your activity level during your first 3 months?

I had injury last Nov 10, 2018, my life changed as I can do my normal hobbies no more. I can’t jog, gym or lift anything heavier than 5 lbs. I can’t sleep at night been to Chiropractor entire month of November, by December I decided to get X-ray but after the result could find any reason why my lower back so painful and left glute radiating pain down to my left feet. I jumped to different t chiropractor , each night was troubling for me and if I could sleep just hour I would be happy but most night I am wake and can’t sleep with so much pain. After two weeks in pain my doctor asked me to get MRI he found out I got bulging disk, so I went epidural Jan 15, it helps couple days I slept good but pain still there, I didn’t skip work, it’s like normal days ... if pain to much to handle I went home early, but trying to make my hours in every week. Week after things getting tense, painful and toe became numbed, pain too sharp ... this point can’t stand long, can’t walk and sitting was painful. I check with my doctor again he declared herniated disk this time ... my days doomed I can’t sleep at night I cried ... pain was so excruciating ... taking too much pain killer sometimes I double my dosage. I have to carry my meds to work and take them twice a size of intake just to feel the pain goes down. Another epidural went last March 13 it was fine for the whole week then pain begins again ... couple nights became nightmares... Was watching you tube coz I couldn’t sleep with pain .... my nerve get pinched so I need to know how my never fight back with pinching .... to realize our nerve needs muscles it has to be coated with special layer to protect from pinching of any kind to survive ... so I take these omega3, pumpkins seed oil capsule, black seed oil, magnesium, vit c, Vit B1,B2,B3,B6B7, Bcomplex B12 - all of these before bed and 12noon before going to work. After 3 days .... pain goes down from 10 to 5, 2 weeks after pain is 2 out of 10. Today April 6 pain is gone. I am now taking once a day ; ) I will not going to surgery. Email me ctroyy85@yahoo.com so I could send you all vitamins I am taken, of course consult your doctor before doing so, I ask mine before I did.

Hi, I endured two of the same and neither worked. I've been dealing with unbearable pain since a work related injury five years ago. As you know, the pain is terrible. Mine is terrible no matter the position of choice. I saw a neurosurgeon and I now need to have two discs removed and replaced with artificial replacements and a possible fusion. The fusion really concerns me though. The entire procedure is concerning to me given that this will be the third surgery in the same location. I've endured having to relearn walking and using my right leg twice, along with permanent nerve damage/loss of feeling. If I refuse the surgery, I endure a lifetime of misery, but if I opt for the surgery, I risk further nerve damage and probable long term extended damage. Please give me your thoughts, for I'm completely confused and torn on what to do. Thank you and also thank you for sharing with us, your own experience with pain/surgery.

Jason Hritz Thank you for your comments. I think it's very important for people to realize the risks involved and that back surgeries do not always have a favorable/desired outcome. I wish the success rates were higher for microdiscectomy surgeries, and I'm very sorry to hear about the pain you've been enduring. I can't/wouldn't offer any advice on whether you should get the surgery or not because I'm by no means a doctor and I don't know your full situation. And even though I'm familiar with what artificial disc replacements and fusions are, in all honesty I'm not very familiar with the risks involved with either of those surgeries. My only suggestion would be to speak with as many different doctors/neurosurgeons as possible, as they might have different options/treatments available. Prior to my surgery, another thing that was important to me was to find and work with a neurosurgeon that was well renowned. I'm not saying that your neurosurgeon is/was not renowned, but if you do end up going with the surgery that might help you be more assured in your decision. You have very good reason (given your history) to be concerned about the surgeries and try other options first. I was the same way prior to my surgery. But for me personally, I find it pretty amazing that artificial disc replacements and fusions are even available to us. I hope there will be new technologies/surgeries in the future that will have even higher success rates than the surgeries that are currently available. I'm sure you'll make the right choice as you work with your doctors. I can't imagine enduring 5 years of sciatic pain, so I hope you find a solution soon. Best wishes in your recovery.

I had a micro dis. In Nov 2004 . I had zero pain before and after surgery . Since my disc was extra large i went under knife as soon as i had urine symptoms . After surgery i was asked to walk just 18 hours later . And asked to climb stairs just 48 hours later . All my urine symptoms resolved but pain return periodically either on right or left side . Also my right leg went numb as my left leg was after surgery . After many years the doctor told me he just remove enough fragment to reduce my urine issues . He told me never opt for a fusion or re surgery . Now 14 years after i survive . I have bouts of pain once or ywice a year .. never need strong pain killers . Maximum will be gabapentin . I play cricket and badminton , Have sex lol and have air travel some 10 times a year .. i would suggest always trust your doctor . All my numbness went away few years ago . I had urine slow down but i have no urine hold up . When i have back pain i keep a baseball ball under sore point while sleeping . This compression ease out pain .

Thankyou. I'm about one month out from my surgery. Into my 3rd month of brutal sciatic symptoms that light up different high pain areas from right lumbar to toes. Depends on angle of sitting, standing, walking, laying down. Losing sleep is the worst from being woken up from stabbing, Charlie horse, needles, electric surges, foot numbness, loss of circulation, severe joint pain and tightening of entire sciatic nerve. Medication doesn't touch the pain. Gabipenton is cute, oxy doesn't even work. This coming from a drug free guy. Only thing that has helped is a 3" memory foam mattress topper and a gonstead chiropractor. My advice to anyone seeking chiro, go to soneone who xrays and adjusts you back into alignment. 50% of my pain is gone. I can stand longer, walk farther, sit longer. First two months on my back. The memory foam is key. GET ONE ! Spend 200$ minimum. Drink more water and lose weight. Was hoping chiro would fix this but I'm not chancing phantom perminate nerve pain memory by waiting one year for disc to heal itself. I have those foot pins and needles and they scare me the most. Thanks for sharing. I hope this post helps others. 30 days till I get my leg back. Cheers all.

My name is Sarah, I am 22 years old have a herniated disk in my lower back that pushes on my nerve. My butt, leg, and toes have been numb for about a year now. I have been thinking about this surgery, but from anyone who has had back surgery it's not good news. From your experience would you recommend this surgery?
@jacobshelley6591
@jacobshelley6591 9 жыл бұрын
Sarah Isaac Hi Sarah, I'm sorry to hear that you too have a herniated disc at such a relatively young age. That is very impressive that you've been able to deal with the numbness for a year now. If you're just trying to get rid of the numbness, you might not want to get the surgery (as explained in the video it was one Dr.'s opinion that only 50% of people have reduced numbness). But if you're in life-altering pain (and I'm not sure if you are) than you might want to consider the surgery as it can have amazing immediate effects on sciatic pain relief. I can't recommend the surgery to anyone, because everyone's herniation is different and we are all in different scenarios. That's why it's so important you talk to MULTIPLE doctors who are qualified and in a position to recommend the surgery. But as far as my own personal experience goes, I am very happy that I received the surgery as I have had complete relief from sciatic pain and my numbness (which was very minor to start with) has diminished significantly. I have had no regrets regarding the surgery and would do it all over again had I been in the same circumstances. That being said, I am only 9 months post surgery, and the majority of my life is still yet to happen. So I could very well change my mind about whether I'm glad I got the surgery or not. I guess my point is that you might be better off asking your same question to many people who had this same surgery and have been in recovery for several years. They would be much more reliable sources as far as long-term success. It all depends on who you ask and how far along they are post surgery. I wish that back surgeries had better statistics, but unfortunately they currently don't (maybe it's due to lack of technology right now, and they will have better methods and statistics in the future). But it sounds like you have been doing your research on what to do and I wish you the best in your recovery and healing. Take care.

Just had this procedure done today December 23rd 2019 and now it’s Christmas Eve. I herniated discs L4-L5 I herniated my disc 3.5 years ago. So debilitating I could not stand straight, leg burn sciatica, back pain extension and flex ion. It was so chronic I could not sit, sleep, nothing. I was stubborn and decided to let it heal on my own. I ate and lived on the floor in a prone position (on my belly) where I could finally get some pain relief. I slowly got better with time 2-3 months still hurt. 1.5 years sciatica pain bad. 2.5 years gone. EXCEPT I could feel nerve pain trying to to do the sit and reach test. Or any forward trunk extension ( touching your toes) I could live life bench, deadlift,dunk and occasionally have flare ups. The nerve pain could be so damaged it will always be there but I saw a surgeon who stated he could fix it Again when I had the herniation. I could not think about jump roping or the Slightest bump cough sneeze would send me crying in pain. 4 years. Could train like a beast move sprint the whole nine yard. But not having that range of motion was not good for me. Extending my knee sent a Knife down my back. I could not pass the STRAIGHT LEG TEST SLUMP TEST After 4 years I no longer had chronic sciatica. Never. Sleeping getting up lifting nothing. EXCEPT when I performed those tests. The surgeon told me he could fix it. After surgery I could not walk and I’m sitting here now barely weight bearing on two feet. Shooting pain down both legs and I feel like I just took my recovered self back to square one and hurt myself. I’m trying to stay positive, I’m the strongest person but I have been crying from pain frustration and anger. To all who is going through this I wish you the best recovery. I would not wish this on my worst enemy. I’m praying this gets better as I went through hell for 2.5-3 years recovering. Stretching. 3000 chiropractor, physical therapy. EVERY METHOD I could find on the internet. And my case was rare. As the nerve root was stuck. The microdiscectomy was done to unhinge the nerve and set it free. I’m praying for everyone a speedy recovery. I will update in a week. Thanks for reading.

I will be having an L4L5 lumbar discectomy at the end of this month, on March 30th.I'm worried about it because before all of this disc herniation I have been a type two diabetic for 10 years and not had the neuropathy, until all of this pain. I'm scared but excited in my own right because I've actually fallen because of the pain, like it made my right leg give out while I was working one day. Any recommendations on how your doing now and how well you were doing a year after. I'm 30 years old btw.

@jacobshelley6591
@jacobshelley6591 9 жыл бұрын
Wideolink Hey there, sorry to hear about your 2 year struggle. That sounds awful. In my experience epidural shots can be very useful in reducing sciatic pain short term. As mentioned in my video, the pain returned after 1-2 weeks after I had mine. Hence they were not effective in helping me long term. Also, during my second epidural steroid injection, they poked the needle too deep which caused my cerebral spinal fluid to leak which lead to severe headaches and the need for additional doctor appointments. So not only do these injections provide temporary results but they have risks associated with them. The only thing I would suggest is that you work closely with your doctor and get opinions from other doctors (physical therapists, neurosurgeons, etc.) as they are qualified to give you much better advice than I am. Best wishes in your recovery.

Hi, I've watched your videos about you surgery, I have question: My surgery was 5 ago. I have been bed riden for 4 weeks before the surgery. The day after I was still hurting alittle down my right leg. Day 2 & 3 was good, day 3 was the best, but day 4 I started hurting alittle again, and it got alittle more intense by the night. So today, Day 5, it's been rough, not as bad as it was before the surgery, but bad enough. I have been walking. I walked more today than any other day. I walked almost a mile, .91, 35 minutes. Now my question lol, Did you have that same pattern? My Dr said it could take a while. I have been very careful with my B.L.T instructions. Thanks Jeff.
@jacobshelley6591
@jacobshelley6591 10 жыл бұрын
Hi Jeff, I'm sorry to hear about the pain returning down your leg. I'm sure that is very frustrating to you, especially since you are following post surgery instructions! To answer your question, no, I did not have the same pattern (although others might). After the surgery, I was definitely sore in my lower back and had to take things very slowly. But I had no sciatic pain down the leg whatsoever. My neurosurgeon told me that only 7/10 people (who had a microdiscectomy) would have the sciatic pain fixed/removed (but other doctors might have different statistics). My neurosurgeon also told me that if I was one of the 3/10 people who still had the sciatic pain post surgery, that he would have to do additional surgery to help remove the pain. However, I believe I also remember hearing (from either my doctor or nurse, I can't remember), that the sciatic pain can return and intensify several days after surgery, but that it will then disappear over time. I hope that's the case for you! So definitely just give it some time and try to take it easy. Also (since you mentioned you are walking) one piece of advice that my doctor gave me (regarding walking) was to walk but not for long periods of time. In other words, he told me to go on shorter more frequent walks rather than longer fewer walks during the day. So that's great that you are up and walking, but walking more/longer is not always necessarily better for you. Stay in touch with your doctor/nurse practitioners as they will know how to best help you. I hope you can stay positive and overcome this stressful time in your life.

Thank you sooooo much for your video! I'm going through the same thing. I got hurt at work and I've been in this pain since jan15 when the incident happened. I tried the injection and helped a little. I'm still having spasms but not as bad. I've done a couple of videos saying how I'm feeling. I'm trying to figure if I want the surgery. They are telling me that it's a 90% chance of me getting better and there will be a chance that I can herniate it again. How are you sleeping. I normally slept on my right side prior to injury, but now since It hurts to sit, stand, or even lay on my right side I'm doing everything on my left. It's starting to feel uncomfortable to try to sleep on my left do to me being bed ridden for months. It's uncomfortable to try and lye on my stomach, but I'm running out of options.

Ebby Thomas Hey Ebby, I'm sorry you're going through this ordeal. To answer you're question, sleeping is fine for me personally. I just have to make sure that the bed surface is pretty firm (i.e., no sofas, etc.) and I do pretty well regardless of the way I sleep (back, side, etc.). Hopefully you can work with all of your doctors and find out if surgery is necessary or not. Best wishes.

Stefan Godilo how are you now? I’m 24 hours post surgery and struggling to sit and lay down. Hurts like hell. I’m so scared to reherniate my disc!

d1mm3r hey man sorry to hear that I know how that feels. You might wanna keep standing more and sit down on a kitchen chair with a little pillow for lumbar support. Also lay no down and getting up is gonna be tough no doubt. I would recommend the gabapentin and pain killers and muscle relaxers before bed it will help. And also use the log roll to get in and out of bed. It will take a few times but it’s probably the best way to get in and out of bed. I’m still paranoid about reherniating a disc but it’s good so far. Just remember to move move move and walk walk walk. Little at first but always try to improve. I’m already walking 4 miles pain free. Goodluck it will get better. Also don’t forget to eat fruits and veggies and take your anti constipation meds. If in a few days you don’t go to restroom tell your doctor. I also purchased a toilet seat raiser with handles because it was hard to sit down on the toilet. The doctor had me buy some magnesium drink laxative from Walgreens for 2.99 and it worked. You don’t wanna get constipated stay careful with that and drink plenty of water

@@stefangodilo3763 Hey, Im still on and off with pain. My pain is localized to my lower back but it is getting better. I have days where my lower back and my left buttcheek hurt but if I lay down and stretch for abit it goes away. I think its more so when I lift something or do a specific movement that causes the pain. At times I feel as though I may have reherniated it slightly, but when I spoke to my neurosurgeon he said its just my muscles and that it will get better. Could take up to 6 months for muscle pain.

@@ekztal the first few days were rough and painful with back spasm, but other than that, it was a walk in the park. I'm fully recovered and it fixed 90% of my back, hip and sciatic pain. Huge success.

Walking or standing up for longer than 20 miins hurts like a fucking bitch. My dosage on gabapentine has now increased to coupe with the standing pains. 4 tablets x3 per day. Im sleep like a cunt on benefits. I hope I have a surgery soon. my problem has been with me for 19 years. I am glad you had yours done within 10 months. British system is fucked beyond belief. My symptoms are, Testicular pain, lost of leg mobility for walking, very lower abdominal pains, numbness of right leg about 20% loss of feeling, lower muscular aches and finally Absent jerk reflex in my right foot. All for 19 years. ::(

I feel for you. i had similar pains such as yours on walking and standing. It was agonizing and that was 3 years for me. So, 19 years is really a stretch. The symptoms you are experiencing now with the numbness and weakness may be from such long standing herniation if indeed that's your problem. Hope you've been correctly diagnosed and treated appropriately by now. God Bless!

great video. I got my microdiscectomy yesterday. was it painful to get comfortable for you? The wound area is painful for me and I can't get any sleep because I can't turn in bed.

Danny Garcia I had my microdiscectomy 4 days ago. my back still hurts at the incision site. I have hell sleeping because I cannot get comfortable. when does it get better?

It took a while for me to fully get comfortable. After about a week I could notice progress. I was sleeping more and walking around more. I had to buy a new bed because the one I had was a low profile and soft. At day 5-7 you should be getting through the night without issues. It gets better. The worst is definitely already behind you.

Thank you for your reply. I truly appreciate it. I hope this gets better soon. My surgeon told me people don't complain much about pain in the incision area but I swear I feel like it's being ripped open any time I move or get up or down. Definitely not what I expected, but I'm hoping this improves soon.

Thank you for sharing your story... I'm in the same boat and currently trying to make the best decision. I see a 2nr neurosurgeon this Friday for another opinion on surgery, etc. Also, did you know that you rock back and forth incessantly while talking? It's quite distracting. I wasn't sure if it was a nervous habit, or if there's another medical reason... I assumed it wasn't pain related since you said you weren't in pain, but something to consider when having a serious conversation with another adult. Eye contact would be nice too. I realize you're young, but these are things to help you when engaged in conversation with other adults. I hope you're still doing well! People don't understand sciatic pain until they've experienced it!!
