On day 12 of this horrible pain. Bulging disc in L5/s1 sciatica. Took xray and noticed my right hip is lower than my left. Working on my glutes and core and it’s starting to get better. Hip thrusts and stretches are the best thing to people. Stay away from shots, surgery, pills, or you will be going down a long road of pain. This problem can be fixed on your own with proper diet, exercise, stretching, physical therapy. I’m still in a lot of pain but it’s not debilitating now. Mornings are the worst, but you have to push through the pain. Remember, the mind is not the body. You can magnify this pain believe it or not. Quit saying you can’t get out of bed, start researching videos on KZbin and how to get out of bed with sciatica. Flexing your core and glutes as hard as you can then use your arms to lift up helped me. Standing will be most painful but squatting to the floor and stretching out helps it subside enough to do floor stretching. Then walking through the extreme pain subsides in the morning to where it loosens up and the pain is manageable. I’m a single dad with a new puppy, I have no option but to push through it, but it is starting to get better now. I am also going to the chiropractor, still on the fence with this. It helps, but it’s temporary and can cause worse conditions if the muscles are imbalanced. You must correct the problem, you need to get stronger and some people just refuse to work out or go through the pain of exercise, in this case, you need to get mentally stronger. I hope I helped someone. Stay strong, we can get through this!!!

Sometimes surgery is necessary and unless you're a medical professional that specializes in spinal care, you shouldn't tell people this is completely fixable with lifestyle change. Thats simply not true.

Hello from Romania! I did an MRI and the diagnoses are these: Posterior disc protrusion at the L5-S1 level, ACCENTUATED AT THE PRE- AND INTRA-FORAMINAL LEVEL ON THE LEFT SIDE, NARROWING THE CONJUGATION OPENING AND CAUSING RADICULAR CONFLICT WITH THE S1 ROOT EMERGING FROM THE BILATERAL DURAL SAC, MORE PROMINENT ON THE LEFT SIDE. In conclusion, it is noted: Posterior disc protrusions at the L2-L3, L3-L4, L4-L5, and L5-S1 levels. I dit at the hospital, and the exercises were done in a cage: the first one involved lying on my back with one knee bent, while with the left leg, I pedaled a bicycle using a pulley and a 2 kg weight. The second exercise also used the pulley, with the same weight, but this time the right knee was bent, and the left leg was raised to the level of the right knee and then lowered. I felt better, but I don't know what exercises to do at home. Please help me!!! Thx !!!

11:34 thank you so much for such a well explained video. I have learned more from it than all the years since I was diagnosed with a grade 1 l5s1 spondy when i was 24. Im now 67. For years Ive done yoga, pilates, walked my dog daily and cycled on and off road regularly it has all helped me to keep that joint moving and strengthen the muscles supporting it. The best thing for keeping it supple through movement was horseriding. Keep it coming great job.

Will you describe the pain pattern perfectly well! I have been experiencing horrendous issues with a bulging disc for almost a year (we won't go into the issues) but until I was able to locate a chiropractor that focused on the spine was I able to see some relief! I also had pain that went down the right side specifically the outside of the right leg not as a nerve-shooting pain but a hurtful aching pain. I'm 68 and a very active person - working, fitness, gardening, and long-distance walking to name a few. The spastic nerve pain was awful - now understanding (by watching all your bulging disc issues and my dr.) the do's and don'ts around a bulging disc am I able to move forward. I'm not completely pain-free -- looking I think at another 3 weeks of healing, I'm in better alignment and executing the right movements to reduce the pain and keep it away. And, I'm working on the right core exercises plus leg & arm works to keep me fit. Love all your instructions - they are thorough, and insightful and you answer most of my questions as you go along! I can't thank you enough..... TY!! 💪💪

I’ve been dealing with the pain travelling all from my lower back, to my hip/bum all the way down my leg for five years now. No doctor has taken me seriously with this as I’m only 27 now with it and they basically have told me it was all in my head or that it’s “just tendinitis” and it will go away. Been to the hospital, doctors, and walk in so many times I have lost count, and no one has explained this as well as you have for me. I’ll be making sure to even use your video when I’m in the hospital next to explain to the doctors what they’re dealing with as they could use some training.

Thank you. My masseur (treated sports injuries for 30 years) did quite a good job of showing me the L5 and the route. Of course massage is great, but it's temporary reief as is acupuncture etc. My X-ray revealed a bony outgrowth to the right of my L5 I think. But now I'm pushing for an MRI because the X-ray was for knees and hip arthritis. One physio told me 'we've only a remit to treat your hips and knees.' I was gobsmacked. Look at your skeleton man.. it's all holistic, joined up.. Sigh. The latest physio at the hospital (NHS physio not bad) has now been persuaded to pass me on to the Spinal consultant. I take about two hours to get together in the morning.. I go to exercises class aqua aerobics, pilates and yin yoga all of which I modify to suit me ( I teach yoga to oldies like me, 71, but it's so gentle and really helps me too). So far managing on one slow release ibuprofen a day, and an occasional paracetamol.. BUT I do not want to be on pain killers for ever even mild ones. I am concerned about getting older and living alone especially wnen I get a shock (I'm no scaredy cat) but someone coming round a corner at the pool area, shocked me. Normally our SNS reacts but calms down. My leg went into spasm. Dangerous. I need a diagnosis to make sure I get whatever help I might need in later life... So far all I've had are exercises to stand against a wall with a belt around the things and do squats. Great explanation and has given me more meat for my argument for an MRI. We should all learn now our body works and be able to feel into it.. and demand to be told exactly what is going on..

@@happinessisdkey9811 really good now mate!!! It's 5 weeks today since the Laminectomy + fusion surgery. Very next morning the physio got me walking down the hallway in St. George private hospital. 2 night stay. Prof. Mark Sheridan (Liverpool rooms) did a top job by all accounts. Lots of soreness when laying down first few weeks, while the deep bruising in both sides of buttocks came out but all bruising gone and pain relief free for a week or more now (phew). Honestly, every day post op. feels incrementally stronger, better, more stable on my feet! 3 to 6 months for full recovery and I feel well on target. Qty 4 screws 40mm x 6.5mm securing L5 and S1 blows my mind as super heavy duty, with a metal "cage " each side to keep space for nerves etc. from being squashed again. I believe him, that I'll be stronger than before because of having the Spondylolisthesis pars defect since nappy wearing age. Apology if long-winded too much info, Cheers.

Got diagnosed with L5 disc bulge in 2017. I was in constant pain, unable to sit or walk for around 5 months straight. Muscle relaxants helped to give the ischias nerve some more room so that the pain would not "take me completely out". After a long recovery, I no longer have any pain. Only thing that still bothers me slightly are spasms on my left foot, a strength imbalance between my legs and a tendency to trip or fall a little easier that before. This propably happened due to my rapid weight loss earlier that year and I didn't take that into account while working or working out, since my muscles got weaker while losing the weight. Great video! 😊 Edit: when I reffer to muscle loss/them getting weaker, I mean that my core/supportive muscles got weaker and that was propably the reason why it happened to me. My tip for weight loss: remember to take care of all the "boring" muscles as well as the ones you like to show off.

My MRI test result and conclusion only tells me that I have bilateral neuroforaminal stenosis, facet arthosis in the L5-S1 area. Since my pain is almost always with the muscles on the back of my legs, your video helps me narrow down the root of the pain that is the S1 nerves. Thank you so much for the video, and I will continue to watch your other videos.

Over ten years ago I started with back pain. Turned out I had herniation in L4/5. I now have herniation in L5-S1. I have pain right above my butt crack, heels, butt, and groin. I had an epidural injection a few weeks ago which took away the groin pain. The other pain is still there but much much better. I had a fusion of L4/5 last year which led to L5-S1 to worsen. I’m assuming I will need another surgery but will be putting it off for a while. I have tried every treatment you could think of for ten years and some of them multiple times. The only thing that took the L4-5 pain away was surgery. I have also had neck pain for over twenty years. But the back pain was so extreme that it over shadowed the neck. After treating my neck off and on for twenty years I am now having surgery next month to fix that disc. I am very active and don’t know how to live without hurting myself. It doesn’t matter if I lay around all day or run. It’s been terrible but as a mom you just make it work. I’m praying one day I can be done with neck and back issues.

Well, you've just explained the majority of my pain w/ the S-1. I've had severe Scoliosis, in the shape of the letter "S", since I was 12yo. When I was 15yo an Orthoo Surgeon performed a Harrington Rod Fusion in the Sagittal region of my Spine. About 8-10 years later I was in severe pain and a different Spinal Surgeon pointed out that the Rods were in upside down so he had to remove them. I've been in pain since I was in my mid 20's, I'm 60 now. I went to a Neurosurgeon & Spine Dr. a week ago for some relief. He was making plans for a Lumbar Fusion until he received the CT San he ordered. Then he pointed out the CT Scan how the previous Fusion has caused me to have severe Degenerative Disc Disease and how my Cervical Spine had curved even more due to the first Fusion. He warned me that IF I were to have another Fusion that I'd be in worse pain and my Spine would be persistent in attempting to keep my head and Spine straight. This would cause my head and neck to become extremely deformed so I'll remain in pain for the remaining years of my life. I told him , It could be worse, I could be paralyzed?! 🥴🫣

L5 nerve pain pattern: Back pain - dull ache, pain goes down into the buttock to back of leg , then down to outer side side of leg , then outer side of ankle, from the knee down outside of calf behind the lateral malleolus, outer side of foot, to outser side of little toe. ( sometimes, between big toe and second toe). S1 nerve pain pattern: (more of true sciatica pain pattern): Pain at back, and then buttock, down to back of leg/calf , down back of lower leg, back of knee, at the back of heel and right down under toes.

Dealing with the same Sir. It starts from my ri bum down to my hamstring to my calf to a few of my toes. But I took some of Doc's advice in another video and make sure regardless of how much pain I'm in, I determined to walk even if it's in the house for 2 to 3 mins. I drink 4 litters of water and I drink 1 cup of coffee (coffee fiend). Realizing staying in bed hoping the pain go away doesn't do nothing but stiff me up to be in more pain. Even right now as I typing this, I'm standing up at my kitchen bar. We got this Sir. I pray everyday and I just can't give up "Kobe killer instinct" hopefully we both get well super soon. Cause this pain is surpass any level I ever experience.

Excellent explanation, thank you! It's obvious after watching this that I have a problem at L5. I have occasional lower back pain during the day, but a constant burning ache along the outside of my right calf. Even if I seem to be okay when I go to bed at night, the back pain and leg pain flare up a few hours after I fall asleep and awaken me, seriously disrupting my sleep. Ibuprofen and acetaminophen don't really help. I need to find some exercises that will help alleviate the pain.

Thank you so much!!! Very informative!!! I have L5 S1 disc herniation. Had surgery 3 mos. ago. Pain has lessened. Went for second follow-up, he said the pain will continue to lessen. I wish he would've told me that before now. I asked him what will happen after surgery. I thought that this level of pain was what I was going to have for the rest of my life. My surgeon explained the problem & a little bit about the pain pattern but you gave a lot of information. Wonderful. I know that dr.'s are under pressure to see many patients in a day so that may be why he didn't go into depth. Thanx again. Also, didn't know about your sciatica website. Thank you for informing me about that. I so appreciate it.

I have either bulging disc or herniation on both sides of the spine on the L5/S1. Had a CT scan. I think maybe the L4/L5 disc as well. My pain pattern follow the L5 the most. Back and then outside of the calf down to the ankle basically between the ankle bone and the Achilles tendon. Also feels like the Sacrum hurts and almost down to the Coccyx at times. Also can feel like a knot right where the sciatic nerve goes by the Piriformis muscle. Like at times it's like a little knot in there. It actually started like that at first. And then the pain manifested towards the back as well. I only have pain down right side of the leg, not left leg thankfully. I am looking to get Physiotherapy and I hope they can help me somehow alleviate the pain and help it heal some. And maybe strengthen the muscles around the spine. I bought a new chair because I think my old one is a large part of the problem that caused it. I sit a lot and I am a heavy guy so I can imagine the stress that L5/S1 disc has been under.

Just received my results from my MRI scan, At the L5/S1 level there is a large central disc herniation causing moderate canal stenosis and compressing the transiting 51 nerve roots bilaterally particularly on the right side. I was involved in a RTA last august as a pedestrian so potentially this could be the result of that. It is so disappointing that I had to see a private physio because the NHS let myself down. Only had a xray once I had the accident, was referred to nhs physio but never received a phone call or letter. Maybe I wouldn’t be suffering as much right now if the NHS never let me down. Anyway positive note…my private physio is drawing up a plan to fully rehab and to live my life to the fullest again! Stay strong and positive everyone

@@isabeltrotman4732 You ask about me, whilst suffering yourself, and at 22: very commendable. People who see others, or overhear them in daily life, often find reasons to dislike them, without knowing that a little conversation with them should have altered their opinion, favourably. The comments exchanges on here disable those objections, and immediately allow mind to speak to mind, thought to thought, so humane sympathies are created, and discussions are had which should never have otherwise been stimulated or had, which is priceless. No, I'm not, thanks. But truly, it's a subject that I'll not dwell on, here; many a blow to the heart and mind have taken place, for which there are no prescriptions, none medical, anyway. However, my purpose was to ask about you, and by doing so I've seen in your reply evidence of resilience, thoughtfulness, and strength of character, which should serve you, and especially those whom you meet, very well. Affections sent to you.
