Fantastic stuff catching up for a hunt with your brother. Nice insight of the tight kiwi bush too.

Thank you 🙏 Nathan , yeah catching up was great even though it involved splitting up and Hunting in different areas. Made me realise how much I miss doing stuff with Barrack. Think maybe 2021 will be NZ reds,south island

Nice vid mate! If you do come to Vic soon a lot of the bush here has been devastated by the fires we had through the summer and a lot of the deer within it. Cheers!

Cheers Craig, was hoping the borders would be open for august for a winter backpack Sambar hunt but highly unlikely 😭

Cheers for watching Rob🤙think the last time I hunted with Barrack was roar 2015 or 2016... long overdue for Some more trips. Been trying to get him over to Victoria for sambar

Best video of that area that I have seen! Cheers for that Jamie. Although you make it look very easy travelling through the bush in there! 😂
@MountainMan_NZ4 жыл бұрын
Heya Ben, cheers mate 🙏 travelling is slow going in there but I generally found it good going in the punga guts or on the spurs or ridges. The mid section in between often had a heap of supple Jack rubbish. But generally speaking for this range I have definitely hunted far worse jungle haha. I really liked this spot, cheers Barrack! An old high school mate of mine Matt Reid also used to hunt this area alot and regularly shot pigs and deer. Wish I could have had the same outcome!! Next time 👊

Although I'm SURE self filming a bow hunt makes it a thousand times more challenging, thanks for all your filming efforts to bring us along when you could just be hammering away without the camera. Hard to see but looks like you're using a one piece quiver, do you find it holds the arrows fairly quiet and secure when you're bush bashing?
@MountainMan_NZ4 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate 🙏 certainly is a challenge, I take my hat off to those who do it well and get animals regularly. I know for a fact my "kill rate" has taken a dive since filming - need to talk less 🤐 hunt more 🤭

You should try some different radios that you can actually eliminate the squelch tail (the annoying static crackling) at end of transmission

@@MountainMan_NZ I'm sure you could find some better ones, but value for money the Baofeng UV5R and similar are hard to beat.

Hey Bud.... good times with ya brother I bet. Must have felt good to be back in NZ bush huh!. Well done on the filming... not easy carrying that round on a chest either I bet.
@MountainMan_NZ4 жыл бұрын
Cheers Scott, good times for sure. Although the camera on chest would made it clunky tying to draw the bow and have sufficient clearance for a shot. I hadn't practiced with the bow while wearing the camera before. .. so need to have a think about that one😳
Yeah it was special times. Especially for the two girls, they got to meet their cousins and spend time with "Grammy + Dado", Uncles and Aunts. We have no family here in Perth WA so it's good to try head back once every couple of years if we can.

So when is Bro coming over to hunt the Vic High Country?
@barrackcarle20464 жыл бұрын
I’ll get there one day, I probably need to sort the local sambar herd out before chasing them across the ditch so I understand the animal a bit better. I have never hunted them to be fair. Certainly sound challenging when listening to Jamie. Be interesting to see how I pitch it to the minister of finance and book leave away from two young sprogs and then explain to her that no meat will be crossing the ditch to fill our freezer at home... I may be able to wrangle the boys up for a hoax where I’ve pickup their old frozen veni from last season upon arrival into nz and pass that off as the earnings for the trip...need to sit and think about the strategy and outcomes on that one a bit more ;) Certainly something that Jamie has pressed me about over the years and I’m curious to see the vic addiction. Certainly be a bit of diversity from chasing the local red and Sika populations here in the NI.

Good question Dave, I been asking Barrack to meet half way in Melb for years lol, he would enjoy Victoria sambar for sure

Maybe those flagging tapes along the ridge were yours 🤭 Neat part of the world if it's in the area where you hunt. I usually hunt further north of this👍 all the best for 2020 brother.

@@MountainMan_NZ Yep underrated has its frustrations with kie kie and supple jack but adds to the challenge . No pink tape from me theres enough in those hills as it is . Cheers same too you , enjoying all you're vids 👊👍
