I had surgery 11 days ago. Witching an hour after surgery PT came to my room and I walked with the Walker with no one holding onto me. Stayed in the hospital one night. The next morning I did stairs and in and out of the car and went home. Was able to do stairs. I too only had muscle pain. I was now legged too. My pain hadn’t gotten worse. I walked without a Walker or cane by day 3. I did not have robotic surgery. My knee was evidently mush as he put it.

The best thing you can do is get your flexion to 125+ and exercise you muscles with resistance training. I've had both knees done and was very diligent with pre surgery PT and post. And I've had a very good outcome with pain but nothing extreme like I'm reading. Be sure to elevate and ICE, ICE, ICE!!! So many don't go into the surgery in shape and expect the new knee to fix muscle and flexibility issues - it doesn't. So many also believe the best thing to do is sit around and rest and that's the worst. Best of luck, my strong advice is to talk to people who had a successful replacement and see what they did.

Probably we are all different in healing afterwards of having a partial or total knee replacement. I had a partial knee replacement in January 2024, ten days in hospital with terrible pain for the first week approx, once the pain got better l improved at a rapid rate. Was given the ok clearance by knee surgeon at first appointment, now l can bend knee as good as ever even kneeling which seemed horrendous at first. You have to bend your knee as much as you can in the first three months, pain or no pain. The strange thing is that the partial knee replacements are the ones that people l know have trouble with, the full knee replacements seem to go better. There are very few people l know who can knell after a knee replacement, but you can if you keep at it. I am so grateful that l had my knee done, the pain of standing up and walking was dreadful before.

@@lindashobe-e7j Both start as early before surgery as possible to build up your knees and legs. I was doing knee exercises for 2 months before 3 times a day. Then after I was doing as much as possible and kept increasing. Both my knees are so good now that I don't know they were replaced. With robotic surgery the scar is minimal.

@@charmayneschultz7681 THANKS! 69yo female here…about seven months ago I started weight training under the guidance of a trainer. This is in an effort to build bone density..I am osteopenic. I was doing squats with weight, but I had to back off on how much weight because it caused a flare up of my knee again as well as a big Baker’s cyst. I just wanted to thank you for posting your total knee replacement video. It was quite encouraging. I have already had a right knee replacement in 2005, a left hip replacement in 2021 and two back operations and lots of arthritis. At my present age it seems like I have to go through another left knee replacement as it is bone on bone now. I admit that I am a little fearful of having to go through another major operation at my age but I guess it's smarter to get it over with now due to the fact that it will be much harder to go through the older I get. I had gotten a gel shot about four months ago, which took 2 1/2 months to help the pain and only lasted 1 1/2 months as far as helping the pain is concerned and is coming back again, so I believe that the next step is going to be setting myself up for a total replacement. I must admit that seeing your video is helping my decision to get it done ASAP. I'll be viewing the rest of your videos because I still work for a living and must be able to drive to and from Appointments and I live by myself. Thanks again and I hope you're feeling well. John

I am 5 weeks out from my first TKR (left done on 6/6) and I'm pleased to report that my experience was very much the same. I too was EXTREMELY worried because I'd heard so many horror stories, but honestly, it has not been terrible at all. At 5 weeks, I'm already at 127° flexion. (I was at 0° extension within days.) Stay as active as you can before surgery. Do your prehab exercises. Take you pain meds on a schedule for the first week AROUND THE CLOCK even if you don't think you need them. Ice, ice, ice. Keep it straight and elevated. Do your exercises, even if you hate them. Already scheduled to get the second knee done on 9/12. I just wanted y'all to know there's more than one good story out there. I couldn't be happier with my surgery and recovery. Oh, I will say that I was a bruiser. My leg looked like someone took a cricket bat to me from mid thigh to mid calf. Bruising eventually went all the way down to my ankle. But I was warned ahead of time. It looked WAY worse than it felt. 💜

You have a great attitude and I believe that is a major factor in your recovery. I am 76 and have been active my entire adault life. I am bone-on-bone on the inner joint of both knees. My right knee is not a big issue for me but my left knee is an issue. I have been receiving Gel Injections every 6 months for apprximatey 3 years and that has worked out good for me until recentntly for my left knee. I am just not ready for a knee replacement. I am scheduled to have a "Nerve Stimulator" (a small electrical lead installed next to the nerve that is sending a pain signal to my brain) that will stop the nerve signal from reaching my brain. I will have a transmitter that is secured in a holster that I can secure around my lower leg and when I feel pain, I simply act ivate it and "no pain." The transmitter can be recharged from a wall outlet. I have been going to the gym three days a week and working on my leg and knee strenght with 8 different machines that build leg and knee strenght and it has made a difference. Wish you well in your recovery but I am just not ready yet for a total replacement.
