This is my journey through total knee replacement. come join me as I vlog about it.
On February 14th 2024 I received the total knee replacement at Holland hospital. The doctor's name was Dr Johnson and was assisted with the Mako robot built by Stryker. This is a vlog that shows my experiences and yours may be differential. Don't take any medical advice from these videos these are just what's happening with my knee and your results may be different. Before starting any exercises make sure to consult your physician.

Good morning. You will be pleased in the long run. It's 17 days today and my knee doesn't hurt at all when I walk or sleep. My knee was much like yours and all came together great. I'll probably get my right done in a few years. It's not problematic right now. Best of luck and keep me posted on how it goes for you.

Came across your channel tonight. Having my right knee replaced with the Mako system in a couple weeks. I have grade 4 arthritis in both knees, that has really gotten bad over the last six months. Right one is slightly worse so doing it first. Doc said I need to wait three months before doing the second one. Your videos of how you are progressing are really inspirational to me! I am retired but pretty active also, even though it's been very painful. I told the doc that I can't see the post-op pain being any worse than I am currently experiencing! I especially can relate to your getting snagged on a vine or tree root, as I seem to do that a lot now, with my right foot and the right knee feels like it's going to snap in two! So I can't wait to get this done! Although everyone is different, you've shown me that the light at the end of the tunnel can maybe be closer than I may have thought, after watching some other videos!

You've got this. It's been life changing for me. Sounds like you're active. I think fitness and movement is the key. Best of luck and keep me informed. I'm about 18 to 20 weeks post op and I can do anything I want without pain in that knee and my strength is better than ever.

I just watched your new replacement series thank you very much for all the information. I tried watching some other folks videos also have talked to friends who have gone through the total need to replacement. You're the first person that I think I could relate to the best athletic and doesn't like a lot of pain meds. And you're so kind to your dog and grandson, clearly not crabby in pain. You gave me a lot of hope for my two turns at surgery coming up. Thank you so much and good luck to you!

@@BigelowWoodcraft My left knee has been bad since a basketball injury in college in 1977! So I compensated for that since then and ruined my right hip. I had my right hip replaced in April 2022, now it’s time for the knee. It’s bone on bone, no cartilage left so no need for cortisone shot. I also had my right knee quadriceps tendon ruptured and repaired in 2014 and I had 9 months or rehab before I was cleared to drive a car. Wondering how the pain with a knee replacement will compare to the Quad tearing. Appreciate your updates and glad to see your progress!

Great progress Jerry. Week 5 for me and measured 110 degrees at the doctor's yesterday. I thought I was OK to get back to a normal routine and was lifting a lot and my knee got swollen so have been back on the anti inflammatory drugs and resting a bit more. Keep active, exercise but know your limits Jerry. I still get a 'deep' pain in the knee about 7pm each night but it is getting less. Cheers Dave.

Good afternoon Dave. The evening time is the hardest for me. I feel great all day then the pain kicks in. I've slowed down the last 2 days due to stiffness. This ice machine is my new partner lol. Sounds like you're making great progress. My PT warned me about those days you're experiencing. I'm actually looking forward to it if that makes sense. That means I'm further into the process of healing. Thanks for checking in and please keep commenting on your experience for me and others.

Keep up the hope. I was a rare case I guess but I was off the oxy 3 days after surgery and dumped the walker after 5 days. I have virtually no pain except a little after doing PT and an ice pack takes care of that. I started driving about 8 days after surgery with no issues. I don’t take and pain meds at all. I hope some others have a similar recovery. It will be 3 weeks tomorrow and other than a nasty scar I’m ok. I can only walk about a mile but assume that will increase over time.

Wow, you turned out better that I did. My doctor said 4 years ago, I needed both knees replaced but the VA said I was to young at the age of 50 to have it done and we needed to wait. Now both my knees are shoot. I just had my left done in March and my right will be done in July. I have had some problems and am still having some problems with my left knee. The doctor said is was completely bone on bone and had a lot of spurs he had to clean up. I hd been in a lot of pain for the last 2 years and still have some but nothing like it was. All in all, glad as hell I had it done. They say it will get better over the next year with what I had to go thru. Glad to see you are recovering good.
