Us 12 in Michigan is an odd one. You'll see Old US 12 signs near Chelsea Michigan. But the current US 12 is well south. If you look south at Niles Michigan you'll see a expressway style road which is the current US12. Originally I-94 was supposed to go south of Niles and then work north. However, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, and other cities where I-94 is protested saying that the expressway should hit south of the cities to the north. They relented and redesigned it when they realized that it made more sense to hit Kazoo, BC, Jackson and all.
