This is touching.😢 I am more like Leah. I feel so unloved when my young brother is the first person married in my family than me. Although I never married but I am a single mother to one child and still unmarried. I pray to the Lord for the right man who loves God first and then me and will adopt my child as his own. Thanks Fr. Mike for reminding me that I am not alone in this brokenness situation. God bless you. Amen.🙏🏼

Not trying to tell you what to do, but don't place your value in the hands of marriage. Being unmarried doesn't make you any less important than your brother. I'm sorry you even feel that way. You're not married yet because God is still working on your husband. You're still loved and important. Sending hugs across the miles.

Does anyone else ever wonder about the fact that it was through the line of Rachel, Jacob's beloved wife, that Israel is able to survive the famine, but it is through the line of Leah that Jesus is born? It feels like that's significant in some way I can't express.
@TrixRN Жыл бұрын
That’s interesting. I never really thought about it. I wonder if it’s because of Leah’s final acceptance that Jacob didn’t love her, but she recognized that God did with the gift of so many sons. So she wholeheartedly praised Him when Judah was born.🙏❤️

In my brokenness and dysfunctional relationships I turn to Proverbs 3 verses 5 to 8, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” I have made a mess of my life trying to fix everything that has gone wrong. But, “I know that my redeemer lives,” So, I pray daily for God’s mercy in our lives.

It's a complete tragedy that Leah doesn't feel that she's loved and had to compete against her sister. Thank the Lord that the world doesn't operate this way as the population would be much larger than what it is today!! I find it strange that Job's friends think that he's the reason for his trials, when actually the evil one is behind all of this 🤔 just like today, evil seems to be prevalent but if we look deeply the kingdom of God will prevail in the end..Lord lead us to grow in wisdom to walk in your ways 🙏

Yes, though Leah had Levi and Judah. Tribe of Levi being of priests (Arron and Moses). Also, the tribe of Judah narrowing down Bethlehem where Joseph was born, Mary's husband. Rachel, having the second in command of Egypt Joseph. Also, Benjamin having the territory of Jerusalem. God had given an abundance of Blessings to their offsprings.

Job’s Comforters remind me of the history of psychology, when they blamed every mental problem on something the parents had done, but mostly it was Mother’s fault. Or with Family Systems Theory, that if a kid goes “off the rails”, there MUST be some obvious abuse by the parents behind it all, or some deep dark sordid “family secret” that caused it.

Thank you Fr. Mike, your observational sermon was sooooo timely and touching. I cannot tell you how sorry I feel for Leah, how broken she was to try and love Jacob and to be worthy of his love. And how so many of us are “tolerated” or marginalized by our own family or those whom we love. It is so important that if and or when you find someone to love that you can never feel like Leah. I had to listen to this reading 3 times because I was distracted - but also.. there was just so much story there. Jacob experiencing the same deception that he had wrought on Esau from his own Uncle Laban. I can only think of sad eyes as those eyes that do not smile when you smile. I think of Rachel as “ravishing” where Leah is the “unLoved” or “loser” in the end she is broken and continues to give Jacob… so many sons. I think it poignant that Judah is foundation of the line of the kings… from David to Jesus and how this son of Leah.. was born out of love and greatness given to God. Such a wonderful story. I broke down.. knowing and empathizing how bad Leah felt. We are all so broken to be loved instead of being ignored, tolerated or marginalized. Such a wonderful story.

Day 15 - Once again we’re at a well where Jacob meets Rachel. Jacob fell in love with Rachel at first sight. Jacob asks Laban, Rachel’s father, for her as his wife. Laban agrees if Jacob will work for Laban 7 years. The trickster gets tricked because after 7 years Laban substitutes Leah, Laban’s older daughter, for Rachel. Jacob doesn’t discover this until it’s too late. Jacob then has to work another 7 years to gain Rachel as his wife. Then the wives get into a competition of having sons for Jacob that gets quite involved until Jacob actually ends up with 4 wives! However Rachel is barren & finally has one son to Leah’s 6. Jacob tries to negotiate flocks from Laban but he’s tricked again. However he figures out a way to overcome the trickery & finally has a large flock of sheep & goats. We see God working through these broken people to ensure His purposes. Jacob will eventually have 12 sons who will become the nation of Israel from which the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ, will come.🙏❤️

My heart broke listening to the story of Leah and Rachel and their maids. I wondered about them having to submit to the men around them. I wondered if the maids felt forced to have sex with Jacob. I grieved for Leah who wanted to be loved and was bound to a man whose heart loved her sister. I grieved for Rachel because she had to share the man whom I assumed she loved, and have his anger turn on her because she could not conceive. I wondered how Jacob managed being with so many women and I wonder now if his heart was torn or if it even mattered to him with whom he had sex. I'm glad I live in a different time and place and have many more choices.

I think you focus on too much of the sex side, meanwile I think for Jacob it was much harder to manage to take care of all the goods and servants he was responsible for. :) For the maid, I think they were honored to be able to get married to their master, also I am sure they showed loyality to him. But Leah and her sister story is more emotional, but we shouldn't forget, they trusted in God and their focus were on God more or less, at least by the end of their life they could focus on him more than at the begining. :) God bless you!

Judah - Praise the Lord. This is a messed up family but it's true that we all are messed up and nobody except Jesus is perfect. Laban tricked Jacob into marrying both daughters and then Jacob's wives forcing maids to bear the children of Jacob seem like crimes. There are still people in the world who do not allow younger siblings to marry unless their older siblings are married first, then in a chronological order. This is a tradition but Laban should've sought another man to marry Leah instead of tricking Jacob. If he had asked Jacob, I'm sure Jacob would have had some solution to it. But all of this brokenness is evidence that we fear, doubt and do things instead of trusting God and being honest. Job's tale shows us how confusing things can become when we are in trouble. May all of our faith grow stronger. Thank you for this, Fr. Mike and Team Ascension! God bless
