Thank you so much. What a treat to see Morgan's demo using pastels. Morgan's video, Homework, is a favorite in my video collection.

I've been a big fan of Morgan's for well over a decade. I'f you're going to learn....learn from the best! I swear I've watched his "Homework" cd at least 3 times straight thru. Like he states here it incorporates all the basic and necessary principles for representational and realistic art most especially as it applies to portraiture. Plus, it doesn't hurt that he's a great guy to boot.

I've enjoyed these interviews tremendously. Thank you for getting these videos out there for all of us....it has been truly awesome! I've been struggling with my motivation to paint and draw for the last two months and these episodes have really helped keep me interested in art. 🤗

It is amazing that a challenge can make you grow. I noticed that to that it doesn't matter what medium I use the colors stay the same, the shadows stay the same, values stay the same too. The only difference is the application. Watercolor, acrylic, Oils, and pastels, and encaustic.

50:24 Important remark here. There are lot of tutorials that suggest people to put higher chroma on the edge between light and shadow to "achieve more realistic" coloring, especially for digital / anime-esque arts. However, such formula has so many variables such as intensity of light, concentration of blood under the skin, etc. A proper way to learn painting is as simple as going outside and observing the objects under the true natural settings. When we start to impose formulaic approach to art, we are drawing the manifestation of formula, not the reality. How is that any different from how an AI generate pictures? At the end of the age of digital art, we must seek regression to traditional approaches, which is hard to replicate and expresses better each individual's uniquness.
