Am I the only one that thinks it is kind of weird that people in art act like it is such a big deal to paint in plein air, or such a sign of bravery?

Yes. You are the only one. And you're obviously not an artist. No one every said brave.

it is sad and very confusing that this obviously great watercolorist re-definines the meaning of the word"tone". This is the word for "value" (mostly as used in the UK, as US says "value" or "lightness"--the "newer" term for the same concept). And there is a different word for cool vs warm, and that is "Temperature". Using the proper terminology helps art students to learn correctly and avoids great confusion. Please adapt to the students, and the learning audience, rather than the other way around!
