God uses tragedy and compassion to do the impossible and bring us nearer to Him, and in today’s reading, He shows us how “I may think that I’m surrounded, but I’m surrounded by You.” God sees the evil of Israel and uses the tragedy of war to show both kings and the Aramean commander Naaman His glory. And none of this miraculous healing that we read about 2,700 years later would have happened without the courage of the captive servant girl (2 Kings 5:3), who could have kept quiet about Elisha and let her captor suffer. God is at work in ways we can’t see, and reveals at 2 Kings 6:17 that He can surround us with the Mighty Armies of God, warriors and chariots of fire. Later, at 2 Kings 7:6, these spiritual armies chase away the enemy, leaving unimaginable blessings for His people. What a new light this brings on my tragedy, as I have the evidence of God’s word that I am surrounded by Him, and that He will be glorified.

I found 2 Kings 8:12 was much like the Hamas did in the attack on October 6. It was averted because God interceded. I pray God does a miracle now for Israel.

Day 184 Elisha is working miracles for the display of God’s power. We see Naaman, a military commander. God has His hand on his life, even before he comes into a relationship with Him. He is actually one of Israel’s enemies. God love reaches out to all if they will receive it. Naaman has leprosy and seeks healing from Elisha. Elisha tells Naaman to dip in the filthy Jordan river 7 times. Naaman is furious about this. He does not believe it will work. His servants wisely council him that he has nothing to lose for obeying. He dips in the river 7 times and is healed. He is grateful and comes back to give Elijah a thank you gift. But Elisha turns it down. Naaman repents and asks for dirt to bring back so he may make sacrifices to God when he returns home. He asks Elisha that may God please overlook his sin when he helps his master in the pagan temple bow down. Naaman has a full revelation that God is the one true living God. Gehazi, who was Naaman’s servant devizes a plan because he is greedy. After Elisha leaves, he goes to him and makes up a story to receive gifts from him. Naaman freely gives him the gifts. Once home, Elisha confronts Gehazi and tells him that he and his family will now have Naamans curse of leprosy. So we see one of God’s enemies who doubts gets healed. One of the Israelites who follows his own heart and sins gets leprosy. Gods family is made up of people with new hearts, not similar dna. God shows His great attention to detail through the miracle of a borrowed floating axehead. From leprosy, to ax heads to international battles and death threats Elisha continues to show off God’s concern and attention to death threats. God shows Elisha the enemies plans over and over so they can be thwarted. The enemies surround Elisha and his servant. The servant starts to panic. Elisha asks God to open his eyes so he can see what Elisha sees. God grants that and the servant see a literal army in the spiritual realm surrounding and protecting them. Elisha prays for sight for his servant and blindness for his enemies. He temporarily blinds the Syrians and leads them to the King. Instead of killing the army that came to kill them, they feed them and then send them home. He won peace with his enemies by treating them kindly. God did that with us also. A famine hits the land. It is so severe that people are cannibalizing their own families. The King of Israel holds Elisha personally responsible for this payment. He tells his servants they must kill him and cut off his head. God tells Elisha the kings plan and also that famine will end tomorrow. The messenger who is sent to kill Elisha doubts the prophecy. Elisha tells him he will see if fulfilled, but will not have any part of it because he will die. God reroutes the enemy. God drove them away in fear. The starving people take the plunder and food and the famine ends just as God had told Elisha. The unbelieving messenger who came to behead Elisha sees this come to pass. However, he is trampled and killed by the people as prophesied. The wealthy Shunamite woman who helped Elisha previously was warned that famine was coming and left the city for seven years. She leaves and returns after the famine ( this famine ) has ended. In just the right place in just the right time she petitions the king for the return of her property. The king and others had just been discussing the woman’s faith and her good deeds and the works Elisha had done in her life just before she got there. She had everything restored back to her. In fact she was given more than what she left behind. God’s timing in this matter magnifies His attention and generosity. Look at the heart of God and His attention to detail for her and her family. We see Elisha prophecy the fall of another king and the wickedness of one who would take his place. We see God‘s character so much on display. God tracks down his enemies. He even blesses them. He appoints and positions believers in their lives. Naaman doubted but despite his resistance God persisted. God is after our heart. This is the almighty loving Father we have. God relentlessly pursues us.

In spite of all the miracles he has done in God's name, Elisha is continually overlooked. On many occasions Elisha has had to remind authorities that he is there and ready to serve in the name of the one true God. And if it could happen to Elisha, I shouldn't be surprised or disappointed when it happens to me.

God revealed secrets to the prophet Elisha that only He could know. 2 Kgs 6:12 says Elisha even knew the very words the King of Aram spoke in his bedroom.

God is in the business of winning hearts with His divine timing. He pursues His enemines and blesses them. I am living proof. I love that Elisha prayed for his servant to see what he saw, a literal army in the the spiritual realm ready to protect. How often do I pray for others to see how He is, and always has been, at work protecting and blessing... I especially pray this over my husband and family. I pray for experiences like Naaman's where YHWH is so evident and present, so divine that hearts are changed and repentance happens. I have to remember that the battle belongs to Him and He always gets what He wants. He will never lose or come up short. Praise Him. ❤
