I like that Amos points out that he was a shepherd. There wasn’t anything “special” about him other than being obedient. I can relate to that.

I like this too. We raise sheep and that part stood out to me. There is no glamour in sheep poop and hoof trimming and snotty sneezes lol. But oh how it teaches you about our great shepherd.

I was struck by God using Amos' name in their conversation. Our God - the Highest, who has nothing and no one above Him, calls even the least of us by name.

I believe that today we are in a hearing famine. People don't want to hear truth and try to silence those who speak truth. It's like people have their ears covered and are saying I can't hear you! ( Like children do.) Praise God, His truth stands & will be heard. So thankful I heard the truth & believed because HE'S where the Joy is! ❤😊

God is the Great Gardener, and what He does on a societal scale, He also does in our individual hearts. In His relentless love, after Israel (and each of us) have made a lifestyle of repeatedly turning from Him, running to idols, He promises to “firmly plant Israel in its own land, never to be uprooted again” (Amos 9:15). I believe that God is working on that promise right now, as evil is today being rooted out of Gaza City. And He restores me when I “grow faint, thirsting for the Lord’s word” (Amos 8:13). As a Gardener, He uproots the weeds in my life, and pays with His “only Son’s” own life (Amos 8:10), using both tragedy and blessing in my life, “drawing up water from the oceans and pouring it down as rain” (Amos 9:6). In Israel literally, and in our own lives spiritually, “grain and grapes will grow faster than they can be harvested” (Amos 9:13). God is a God of abundance.

The book of Amos hits differently now that I have the back story of what Israel and Judah did. My God shot for today was from 8:11-12 I pray God heals our world from the famine of hearing the words of the Lord

Tarra Leigh reminds us that "Judgement Is not the end. Destruction, is not the point. God's goal in punishing his children is restoration. These steps are necessary for the Israelites to receive restoration." God is a loving and good parent. He punishes us, but for our ultimate good. God is LOVE! A parent loves their children and uses punishment to mold them and teach them. God, when you are molding me and teaching me lessons, let me be thankful and not feel anger or resentment. Allow me to see that you are changing me for the better. Do not let my desire for possessions or money keep me tied to a task when I need to leave. Don't let anything come between me and obeying you, God. Obedience is the test of a faithful servant of God. Am I obeying god's call?

Day 193 Today we finished our 19th book of the Bible! The second half of the book of Amos. He calls out the leaders who relax and lounge in luxury. God says they will have destruction because they have forsaken God. Amos pleads with God to relent. Amos is the opposite of Jonah. He pleads with God to relent. However, by the third vision, he starts to understand that this is God‘s inevitable plan. It is part of the process to turn God‘s peoples hearts back to Himself. Amos has visions of locusts and fire devouring the land. Then a construction image of God using a plumb line to make sure a wall is straight. God is showing that the northern kingdom of Israel is about to lean over and collapse. Amos had begged God to relent for the people. However they turn against Amos and target him. Obeying God does not always mean the people will treat you kindly or honor your actions. But Amos knows who he is to God. He is a humble servant to speak the truth. He shows Amos a 4th vision that the kingdom will end. God says there will be a famine and drought of His words since the people have rejected them. The 5th vision is the Lord standing by the false places of worship and demanding their destruction. Despite their sin God is still preserving a remnant. In this story, the people who get mercy are the only ones who get what they don’t deserve. We all deserve destruction, that’s what’s fair. But we have been given mercy! Judgement isn’t the end. Destruction isn’t the point. God’s goal in punishment is always restoration. God’s discipline is part of His love. God gives Amos a vision of what is to come, so the people do not lose heart in the middle of the destruction. God reminds them of the great love He has for them. Amos 8:8-10 The day of the Lord‘s destruction. We see it refers to this time for Israel and also to the time of judgment on Jesus for our sake. Look at what happened. The land trembled. The Sun went down at noon and the earth was darkened in broad daylight. There were feasts that turned into mourning. Mourning like that of an only son. 700 years after this was written God’s only son would die for us. Everything that Israel was going to go through, God went through Himself. He went it for them so He could bring them back to Himself. For you. For me. The most unfair thing of all is that I/we will never receive punishment for myself. Jesus took it for me!

If I was an Israelite, I would ask for forgiveness. God seems very angry. There will be a remnant but I'd be sure to return back to God. Amos, was a shepherd and next thing he's a prophet seeing dire vision. I keep looking for God. Is this where the 400 years of silence. That's worse than God's anger- not communicating with me. 😊
