This is my first year teaching PE. I taught 4th grade for 15 years so Kindergarten is new to me. THANK YOU for all the help! I have watched many of your videos and have used many of your resources. I appreciate you!

Way to go! Man do I remember when I taught Kindergarten over 10 years ago (MS PE, now). I had Kins at the end of the day which led me to taking a nap at home everyday before I did anything else. I had to them for 45 minutes (teacher prep time). We change activities every 5-10 minutes and made it worth their energy and time. The wonderful thing is I had those same students 5 years later as 6,7,8 graders. So we build great relationships. Heck , coached some of them as players on the basketball team. Life is....

That's so cool that you got to teach them later on, I love it when my previous students come back to visit or when I see them working jobs in the grocery store or around town later in life

Thanks for the share on the video. I kick off the year with riding the train and the line is the train tracks. Adding in a little choo-choo noise here and there gets the Kinder-Friends excited. I also add in different loco-motor skills after the first few days of moving. Also like the cut in the video when the kids were asking about the equipment on the walls. Nice edit. Keep up the great stuff!

Always 1000 Questions with Kindy, but it makes it fun and interesting - They love "staying on the train tracks"

This is an amazing video. Very helpful for new teachers to teaching kindergarten. I notice you have a variety of videos for other primary grades. Would it be possible for you to make more videos for teaching kindergarten? Thank you! That would be really helpful to all the new kindie teachers out there.

Awesome job man! I'm sure you do this already, but back when I taught Kindergarten most of the first semester of school was spent on locomotor movement. I would spread out the entire class along the sideline of the gym. Sometimes I'd have boys on one sideline and girls on the other. With only 20-25 minutes of time, we'd spend just about the entire time working on these movements from sideline to sideline. You would think they would get bored, but they did not. I can honestly say it helped them in SO many ways. I literally saw them get more coordinated. Some people might think this is repetitive and they get bored, or you need to focus on game-play, cooperative games, etc... but I disagree. If kids can't even run correctly, how are they going to be successful in a game? We focused on correct form running, difference between walk/jog/run/sprint which also helps K students learn the power of listening. Movements we'd do are: Crab walk, running, walking, skipping, sprint, jog, bear crawl, run backwards (carefully), walk backwards, Rolling, baby crawl, galloping, high skips, carioca (this is TOUGH, but K can do it!!!!), hopping, jumping, leaping, lunges, army crawl, seal walk, and more (that I can't think of right now). K can be SOOOO tiring but rewarding at the same time. Right now I do 3/4/5 grades and love it. But part of me misses K-2! Keep rockin' man! Love your videos and ideas

For sure man - we do lots of locomotor practice and learning to find open space throughout the year with K-1, it's the basics for almost every other activity that we do in later grade levels.

I had a gym teacher when I was in kindergarten. He was known as Mr. A. Mr. A. was already 50 years old when he was my kindergarten gym teacher. He was also very nice. When we met again 5 years later, he came to my new elementary school and taught health class. 4 years later, he came to my middle school and worked as a substitute teacher for health class. A year later, he came to my high school and substituted for my English teacher who had to attend her grandmother's funeral. A year later, he was my substitute gym teacher. When I asked him where my other gym teacher was, he said, "He's not here. Today, it's just Mr. A." Now, he's retired but still coaching. Since I have envelopes, stamps, and three holed lined paper, I can write letters to Mr. A. to thank him for years of teaching me the importance of exercise and being healthy.

The problem we have is that we have 90 kindergarten kids and about 10 kids just do their own things? We cant get their attention. The other 80 see them running and they want to do that also which they do so makes it harder to teach. Your advice will be appreciated. Thank you.
@ThePESpecialist3 жыл бұрын
IMO having 90 kindergarten kids in one room and calling it a class should be illegal ... Do you have 4 PE teachers in the room with them? I think at that point you have to realize that your in a really less than ideal situation and give yourself grace - that situation isn't legal where I'm at, so check on your state laws for class sizes and ratios as well. As far as tips go, I would definitely get them all into a good system of station activities and keep the same routine everyday, once they get the hang of it swap out some of the activities and teach them new things through that format

Thank you for the reply. No we only have 2 coaches and one aid that doesnt have a PE background. But thank you for your advice will look into it and try our best. Your videos have great content.

Impressive! K PE is a special 'animal' in so many ways - love it, but what challenge. Knocking it out of the park as usual mate:)

Administration*
@ThePESpecialist4 жыл бұрын
We're just going off CDC and district guidelines and recommends, but I can say that our Admin were pushing for us to use the gym since its the biggest indoor space in the school and we don't have a lot of good outdoor space that's not already being used by recess. I was told we would be teaching outside, but found out 1 week before school started I could use the gym and also use equipment as long I it's sanitized between classes.
