Where was your life jacket and tether? When on watch alone, especially when at night and when other crew are asleep or otherwise not in the cockpit you should have on a life vest and be tethered to the boat.

DRAMA on The High Seas facing PIRATES on a deserted Island off the Jamaican coast. This is a must see episode of seasoned sailor's plying the dangerous waters of the Caribbean. Glued to my chair, watching in horror while four grownups take on the perils of life afloat. This video had it all, from hoisting their spinnaker, to navigating the shoals and making life threating decisions. If you wish to be entertained watch this truly amazing episode. Thank you so much for sharing this amazing piece of work. You all deserve a Emmie for your efforts.

Additionally one NEVER leaves to cockpit in the conditions described in my first comment.

thats great feedback and suggestions Brian! We can definitely do things to improve our safety. We are still very green when It comes to crossing seas/oceans and we are learning every day! we have all the safety equipment now we will start implementing It. Things are different once you leave the bahamas!

we've debated It! and talked with many other sailors. at the end of the day we don't want to get into a gun match where we are out gunned and out manned.. we are taking all suggestions though!

I have been sailing all over the world since the 1980's. It's called cruising. If you need a gun it's not cruising. The best plan is not to go anywhere dangerous. In all my time cruising the most dangerous place I have ever been is South Florida.

Well that was certainly exciting. Have a plan. Are you going through the canal right away? San Blas islands for awhile? Stay safe. Love the channel. ❤🙏

Hi Steve! We crossed through the canal and now we are on the pacific coast of Panama . We explored san blas for 3 weeks before we crossed the canal and It was stunning!

An electric pressure washer will pump dingy fuel and a flame thrower will keep pirates away.

Why didn't you tack the Spinnaker down to the windward bow. Then you could use main and kite all the way down to 165⁰ AWA.
@freediversteph Жыл бұрын
we are still super green with flying the spinnaker! that was only our 3 or 4th time ever hoisting It so we have a lot to learn. since this sail we have gotten quite a bit better flying the main and spinnaker :)

What are the rules for having a firearm on board? Does it vary, country to country?

It varies which is what makes It so challenging

Can you share your passage from Bahamas to Panama? I am planning to do it next year and I am looking for options. Thanks
@freediversteph Жыл бұрын
absolutely! we left Great Inagua and sailed past Cuba and Haiti through the windward passage, past Jamaica and straight to El Porvaneir, San Blas Islands, Panama!

The problem with a pew-pew device is that they make holes. Holes on boats generally not a good thing. If you position yourself at the bottom of a causeway with a spear in hand, no one will come down without sticking themselves. I would imagine that even desperate criminals have a since of self preservation. Gas, outboards, dinghies, fishing rods, and electronics are all easy to grab things. Someone might resort to violence to achieve their goal, but violence itself typically isn’t the goal. Spot lights make great deterrents.
